Julien walked her all the way home, carrying her there and he didn't put her down until she would be safe in her bed. She was long asleep by the time he got her home and Julien watched her sleep peacefully until he heard her parents get back.
I sat up quickly; awake in the early dawn and I searched around for Julien until I realized he wasn't here and I was in my bed? I looked at my clothes, still in my dress and starting to think it may have not happened. I would have convinced myself of it too if my head didn't pound when I stood up to go to the bathroom.
My memories were foggy and I splashed some cold water on my face trying to wake me and help my hurting head. I rubbed my forehead and looked at myself in the mirror. Is Julien just meant to come to my rescue?
I stripped out of my dress, able to smell Julien on it before I tossed it into the dirty laundry with the sweater, even though it smelled like him I needed to wash it before I could wear it again. The memory of Kyle making it hard to even look at it right now.
On my way out of the bathroom to the closet I grabbed my phone to check if he had left a message or anything. I didn't get the chance to thank him, I didn't even get to say bye. I sighed, no messages; I bite my lip and looked to the time. Wanting to call him now but it was too early. I placed my phone on my dresser in the closet before picking out something comfy to wear but something I can wear to school. Then I realized I never did my homework.
I had a few hours before the sun fully rose and managed to finish it all even with my headache. I repacked it into my school bag before retrieving my phone, getting it before the alarm went off. It might still be too early but I had to call him before I went to school. He could fill in on the things I was having trouble remembering. I clicked his name in my contacts, having added him soon after I got his real name.
I put the phone to my ear as it rung and put my bag by the door, resting it between my shoulder and ear to brush my hair and collect it in one hand. I put my phone on speaker before placing him below the mirror above my dresser outside of the closet.
''Hello?'' He answered and I thought it might have still been too early, not able to determine if I had woken him up or not.
''Hi, sorry if I woke you up.'' I didn't intend to wake him or disrupt anything but the least I could do was thank him.
''Pax, sorry I wasn't paying attention. How'd you sleep?'' His voice changed after he heard me speak, his attitude.
''I slept okay, I was calling to thank you; I assume you got me all the way home?'' I asked, only remembering the last thing Dean said to me before the rest just goes blank.
However the memory most stuck in my head was the way he looked at me after catching me.
''I did. Do you remember what happened?'' He asked and I pushed my finished braid aside to grab the phone and take it off speaker; bringing it back up to my ear.
''You said, that guy; Kyle.'' I nodded my head. ''He drugged me.'' And I can only imagine what would have happened if Julien didn't show up.
I heard his sigh from the other side. ''Yeah, he did.'' Then I remembered what happened after he found me. What he said to him.
''I of course am thankful that you showed up, saved me; again but...why did you come?'' I was so glad he did and I wished it hadn't been ruined but what did Dean say? Why did he come to see me, we've just barely met and he seems to be drawn to me like I'm drawn to him.
''Dean invited me...I wanted to see you and he said you'd be there, that you don't normally go to things like that and I thought; I thought why not.'' I smiled and looked at my door, hearing my dad wake up.
''Well, I'm glad you did.'' I told him and sat at the end of my bed to put my socks on. Wishing to see if he was smiling or not. ''I wish it didn't get ruined.'' I checked my phone quickly when it buzzed; Dean asking if I was okay and If I was coming to school.
''It wasn't entirely ruined.'' Julien recalled how he was able to hold her, have her close to him. He was able to watch her for a bit of time, enjoy the sound of her calm heartbeat.
''I said like one whole sentence to you.'' I laughed, not sure how it was anything but ruined.
''You're so tall, If I remember correctly.'' I nodded my head but laughed again as I texted Dean back, I'd go to school and be ready soon.
''To be completely fair you are.'' I came to my own defensive. ''Hey, I've got to get going to school but can we talk more later?'' I asked but mostly hoped as I grabbed my bag.
''Of course.'' I smiled again, happy to hear it.
''How about after school? I can text you first if you want.'' I offered and opened my bedroom door to head downstairs.
''Whenever and you do not have to text first unless you want to.'' He told me and I thought I heard slight amusement.
''Okay, I'll call you later then.'' I nodded to myself. ''Bye Julien.'' I smiled to myself, glad he couldn't see it.
''Bye Pax.'' He said before I clicked to hang up, getting to the bottom of the stairs.
''I've got to go, running late . Love you mom, love you dad.'' I shouted a bit to them in the kitchen, slipping my shoes on as they both responded.
''Love you too.'' They said at the same time and I hoped they didn't have to stay so late again tonight.
I opened the front door and hurried to close it when I checked the time on my phone, hurrying over to his house. He was already waiting in his truck until he noticed me and opened his door but I waved for him to stop.
''We are late.'' He nodded and got out anyway.
''I don't care; are you okay? You sure you want to go to school?'' He asked and walked the rest of the way with me when he met me.
I smiled at his concern. ''I'm okay, just a bit of a headache but it's getting better so yes; there's no point in missing school over it. Nothing happened away.'' I was fine, thanks to him and Julien.
''Yeah; no thanks to me.'' He commented and I turned my head at him.
''Are you kidding, you texted Julien. If you hadn't something would have definitely happened.'' I told him, I was to in my head about texting him but he did it for me.
''Yeah but I dragged you to that party and I just got busy with Charlotte; I didn't even notice.'' I didn't realize he felt this bad about it.
''I wanted to go for you so you could do exactly that; spend time with Charlotte. Nothing happened.'' I told him again, this time trying harder to convince him of the truth; he does not need to feel bad.
''I'll never ask you to go to a party again.'' I laughed and walked around the truck to get to the passenger side.
''Deal.'' And I was glad to make it. I was glad to help him with Charlotte but parties were already bad enough before Kyle.
He seemed satisfied enough with that and we both got in, seeming ready to start driving until he turned to me in his seat.
''What happened when he got you home? You looked pretty out of it.'' He asked as put the keys in, not looking.
One of the only times he could multi task was when he was driving, it was pretty impressive actually.
''I don't remember, I passed out; like right after I felt him pick me up.'' I sat back, trying to remember if there was anything else I could remember after that. ''When I woke up he was gone.''
I wasn't a fan of that feeling I felt when I first woke up. I searched for him; I was scared and for some reason he was the one I wanted. Unable to shake it and get back to sleep after it.
''I did call him before I came over.'' I told him, getting out after he started driving and he quickly glanced at me.
''Did I hear that right?'' I nodded and he smiled, ''Did he really come because I texted him?'' He asked; getting more excited.
''Well, yes; he said he wanted to see me.'' Dean glanced at me and smirked. I rolled my eyes, knowing what's coming next.
''Maybe some of your physic powers are rubbing off on me.'' I raised an eyebrow and smiled at him.
''I don't think that's how it works, sorry.'' For some reason males born to witches were never given any magic. Only ever gifted to females. Power could also never be rubbed off as he put it.
''Do you think only guys can be werewolf's?'' He asked what I started to wonder. We have only seen Julien and Nick.
''I don't know, did you see anything about that in any of your research?'' I knew it wouldn't be the answer and it could be wrong but I was curious anyways.
''Uh, no.'' I looked at him, sensing more and he avoided my gaze as he pulled into the school parking lot and I sat up.
''Dean?'' I asked, knowing now that there is something more for a fact.
Dean parked and I took my seat belt off with him, watching as he turned to me.
Whether he had something to tell me or just something he wanted to tell me but there was something.
''In my research I saw some stuff about mates.'' I nodded, not sure why this was such a weird topic for him or why he seemed worried to bring it up. I looked at him, waiting for more. There had to be more if he was being this strange about it.
I opened my mouth as he continued to look at me too, having been waiting for it to click in my head; which it did.
''Julien has a mate.'' I spoke aloud and those words hurt me more then I could have imagined. He has a mate and I've been getting my hopes up more and more.
''Yeah but-'' He began to speak as I got out of the truck, like leaving this truck meant I could escape the conversation and the terrible pain it caused me to feel in my chest.
I felt that this bit from the lore was true.
''Pax, I think-'' He caught up with me and kept beside me but I looked over at him, stopping him.
''I think we should stop talking about Julien, I mean; It doesn't matter anyway.'' I wasn't going to ask him all those questions either of us wanted to and let him focus on finding that mate.
I knew there was no chance it could be me anyway. I may be a witch but I'm not special enough for him. He's too perfect and needs someone just as perfect.
I pushed open the school door, just as the bell rang and I was glad to hear Dean not argue with me on the topic. He clearly wanted to continue but was stopping for my sake.
The first few hours of the school day I spent trying not to cry. Maybe my gift isn't even being physic, maybe it was a product of my accession starting. Why was I forced to see all those images of him? It wasn't me he was looking at was it.
I barely focused on anything that day and the car ride home was silent, neither Dean or I said anything. I wasn't mad at him nor was he mad at me but I felt like my heart had been shattered into a million tiny pieces and I just wasn't in the mood to talk. About anything but certainly not Julien.
''I'll uh, text you later.'' I looked at Dean as I got out and he remained in. Giving him my best smile but I knew it was a pathetic one.
''I'm going to the diner with Charlotte if you wanna come?'' He offered and I knew he didn't want me to be alone with the thoughts he knew I was having.
I could see he still had more he wanted to say but was holding it back at my request.
''I'm pretty sure that's a date Dean, have fun. Text me after to tell me how it went though.'' I shut the passenger side door and he nodded as he restarted the truck. Only having stopped at the front of my house to let me out.
I put my bad over my shoulder after taking my phone out and checked my phone, noticing a few messages.
Mom- I'll be a little late but I'll be back before your father, Love you.
Dad- Mom's gonna be home before me can you order some food for the two of you, love you.
I texted them both back and noticed the last message. From Julien. I didn't open it though and headed inside to order the food. I wasn't hungry but I'd order extra for dad in case he came home without eating.
I choose pizza, being easy to order and I knew what everyone would like. I set my phone on the kitchen counter with my bag after calling and got myself a glass of water but I paused after taking a sip.
I looked up through the window above the sink and gulped. I'm not alone. I slowly set the glass down and turned. My gaze went to the ceiling when I heard movement upstairs. I very quickly reached for my phone and hurried to get to the front door but when I opened it I couldn't get through, something; an invisible wall. I turned around, sensing someone behind me.
''I'm sorry.'' She said before I looked up the staircase to someone walking down them.
My mouth fell open and I felt my heartbeat begin to race. The man from my dream. I jumped when the door behind me slammed shut. She's a witch and she's helping him over a fellow witch.
''Where's my wolf?'' He asked stopping at the bottom of the stairs, asking me and waiting for my response.
''Who's your wolf?'' I asked but I knew it was Nick, I knew just by his energy. The man who stood in front of me had the most twisted energy I have ever felt and he had to the one who bit him.
''I can smell Julien all over you, where is he?'' He asked, getting closer and far angrier.
''Daven.'' I looked back to the women as he did.
''I don't know where he is, I don't know where he lives.'' I told him, sensing now that she wasn't exactly safe either.
He turned back to me, looking amused suddenly and I stepped back.
''Is this how we're doing it now, you don't even know where he lives?'' He asked with a laugh and looked down at my phone in my hand.
I quickly put it behind my back, having been trying to get to Julien's number to call him.
He turned his head and the smile remained on his face before he walked fully over to me. My back hitting the door as I tried to back away further. Having nowhere else to go he reached me.
''Give it to me, no better yet; you call him. I'd love to see him come to the rescue, I want my wolf.'' His smile disappeared as he came up with his idea and his supposed claim over Nick.
I looked up at him though. ''Nick Isn't yours '' I told him, he didn't even help him; Julien did.
''Call him; now!'' He shouted, getting closer to me before I pulled my phone up to call him. Jumping into movement as I did so.
I put the phone to my ear just before only hearing it ring just twice and the beginning of Julien's voice but he yanked it away and turned away from me.
I was able to catch his returned smile just before he turned away.
I couldn't hear Julien but I could hear Daven.
''Julien, right?'' He paused but followed it up with a laugh before he continued speaking. ''If you care so much about if I touch even a single hair on her head,'' He turned back around to face me.
''Then why haven't you told her?'' He locked his eyes with me. Told me what? I swallowed and pressed further against the door as he reapproached me.
''You have 10 minutes, I want my wolf or your mate isn't leaving this house alive.'' He hung up without a further word and tossed the phone to me.
I caught it with a bit of a fumble, the shock of his statement setting in. I looked down at my phone.
I smiled smally before my brain caught up with everything he said. I quickly looked up to Daven whispering something to the women he came with.
I took the opportunity to try to feel for the spell she used on the house, if I could feel what it was I might be able to reverse it.
''Do not let her out of the house.'' He spoke to her but looked at me, right at me. She nodded though, agreeing to his request; his order.
Daven walked past her to the living room, yanking open the glass door to go out into the back yard. Perhaps waiting for Julien, I was just bait to get him here.
I watched him begin pacing back and forth before I looked to her, she was already watching me.
''You need to stop, if you get out we both die.'' She explained, coming closer to me, I pushed myself away from the doorway.
I could reason with her; I hoped. Or at least get her talking long enough to stall and break the spell when Julien got here.
''Then let me help you.'' I offered and took another step forward; towards her.
She nodded and glanced back; Daven still pacing and every once and a while looking at us or the Woodline. When she looked back at me she pointed to her ear. He can hear us.
I nodded, not used it to but remembering.
''If he get's what he want's we both are free.'' She told me, her voice low though.
I did not believe that to be true though. Daven wasn't one to make a deal with; he's....he's crazy. His energy was so twisted.
''You shouldn't trust that.'' I whispered, she had to feel that too. He wasn't just wrong; he's broken.
''You need to stop.'' She grabbed my arm and I gasped, a flash taking over my vision.
She pulled back, getting freaked out. It still freaked me out but I looked up at her, grabbing her now.
''You need to accept my help.'' I warned her, swallowing from what I saw.
She yanked her arm away and looked at me like I was crazy.
''What did you just see?'' She whispered now too, giving herself a moment to breath before she asked but Daven opened the back door and we both looked to him.
Neither one of us comfortable when he is presence.
''You have 5 minutes, you better hope your mate actually cares.'' He stepped inside and looked at the both of us. Accessing us before speaking further.
''Perfect timing.'' He smiled largely and turned around. I tried to look past him as he stood in the doorway before he turned back around.
''I don't smell my wolf, drop the spell. Now!'' The smile that had just been on his was replaced with anger as he yelled at her.
She nodded and I felt it drop just as he began to advance toward me, fast.
''Nick doesn't have control; I'm sure we can work something out, please.'' I begged before he grabbed the back of my neck and began pushing me toward the open back door.
''I told you to bring MY WOLF!'' he shouted and pushed me out onto the grass before shoving me forward to walk.
Intention, Intention. I thought to myself and focused where his hand held me on the back of my neck. Julien was close enough for Daven to sense him in some way but I couldn't sense him yet so I didn't know how close he actually was.
I could feel his hand begin to squirm as he began to feel it. I was going to turn my skin hot but only for his touch so it would burn him away from me.
''Ow, you bit-'' He yanked his hand away, feeling the red hot burn and was going to insult me but I felt him before I heard him.
''Witch?'' Julien asked and I watched Daven's whole face change again as Julien gently pulled me behind him. ''Listen to Alex.'' I turned noticing him now too.
Another male werewolf. I turned back in time to see Daven closing the space between Julien and himself.
''I told you to bring me my wolf!'' He shouted at Julien and he remained calm, clearly sensing his energy too.
''He's my wolf now, you no longer have any business here.'' Daven pulled back and smiled, turning his head a Julien.
''I know where your mate lives.'' He glanced back at me for a moment, looking straight into my eyes before Alex stepped in front of me too.
I stepped back, sensing Daven's mood change yet again as Julien spoke. This time the worse it's been.
''Like Demetri knew where yours lived?'' He asked before Alex quickly turned to grab my arm, pulling me to lead me away.
I glanced back as Julien transformed under Daven who was pushed off him in his wolf form, having changed before Julien did.
I fully turned back and tried by best to keep up with Alex. He rushed through the woods and although I was worried about Julien I kept following him.
Far more worried about Daven.
''Where are we going?'' I asked, nearly tripping when he halted his rushed pace.
''Here-here.'' He looked around and I did too, following his line of sight. ''Penelope, stay with her.'' He spoke and I searched for said Penelope before I looked back at Alex.
He turned back and ran the way we came, changing as he did so and switched easily to running on all fours.
I heard a branch snap and didn't realize how on edge I was until I jumped at it, turning to see what caused it.
''Hey, sorry; I'm Penelope.'' She smiled, slowly closing the space between us as she read that I was no longer scared.
''What is going on?'' I asked before I really sensed her, she's a werewolf too.
Her smile fell a bit but it didn't disappear completely.
''Well, maybe a war but for now just a fight. He'll back down though. Julien is strong and so is my brother.'' She explained and sat on a fallen tree; now log.
Alex being her brother I assumed but she was far nicer or at least approachable.
A war? Over me. She smiled at my clear reaction and patted the space beside her.
''Werewolf's aren't supposed to mess with others mates; especially with Alpha's mates, it's like the first rule that was created.'' I took up her offer and sat beside her, glancing back toward the path we took, the one that lead back to my house; to Julien.
According to Julien it seemed that someone had done exactly that to Daven at some point.
''I'm really his mate?'' I asked, much less serious but all the more emotional. I wished to ask him that question but not only was he busy but I was a bit upset from who I had to find that out from.
Julien should have told me. He should have told me right away. Was that what he wanted to talk to me about when he came to the party last night?
''I think you should talk to Julien about this...but you've got to feel it; something.'' She looked over at me, seeming unfamiliar with it but also sure that there had to be some way of knowing.
''I thought I was going crazy.'' I told her, looking at her now too. Dean was trying to tell me that, wasn't he?
I convinced myself of the complete opposite. Maybe if I had called him sooner this all would have been prevented. Julien could have been here before Daven got here.
Penelope noticed how lost in thought I was and although she didn't know exactly why she attempted to ease them.
''Don't worry Julien will get the Elders involved and they will help him, Davens broken more then just one of our rules.'' She stood back up and tucked some her hair behind her ear and appeared to focus, maybe to hearing something.
All their senses clearly far more amazing then I could imagine.
''Pax, get behind me.'' I looked over at where she was looking and stood, not going behind her but beside her. ''He ran.'' She told me, getting ready incase he ran here.
''Okay, we're good.'' She let out a sigh, obviously not wanting to fight Daven. ''Julien said we can head back.'' She listened for a moment before informing me, looking at me before she began to lead the way.
I followed after her, taking a bit from the sudden nerves. Was there a reason Julien hasn't told me? I knew we would have to talk about it, I just didn't know what I was going to say.
''He's waiting inside, I've got to catch up with Alex.'' She got me to the edge, my back yard just beyond it.
I nodded when she turned to me, seeing it herself.
''Thank you.'' Really and I would hopefully get to thank Alex later too.
I waited there, stood still for what felt like minutes but in reality it had only been a few seconds until I stepped out and made my way to the back door.
Despite finding out Julien is my mate; my heart still hurt. It felt like he was hiding it, like he didn't want to tell me.
He probably wanted a werewolf as a mate, now that I know females can be wolfs too; that possibly became even more realistic to me.
I opened the back door and stepped inside, glancing around for Julien who was supposed to waiting inside for me.
I heard the front door close and looked to it after I slid the back door closed again. Julien had gotten the pizza from the delivery guy and he looked at me.
He paused upon seeing me before closing the distance and setting the pizza on the coffee table.
''I'm so sorry Pax.'' The regret he felt laced his voice and I crossed my arms, holding them for the comfort I needed to ask my question.
''Why didn't you tell me?'' Why did I have to find out from Daven, a complete stranger.
Julien rubbed his forehead before running his finger back through his air pushing it back. I however waited, not moving and wanting his response very much.
''I didn't want to force you into anything too fast. You had just found out werewolf's were real.'' He explained and I nodded once, knowing it was the truth but still not happy about him keeping it from me.
''When were you planning on telling me?'' If Daven didn't tell me who knows when he was going to.
He stepped forward. ''Soon, I just wanted to; I wanted the timing to be right but every time I wanted to tell you It just didn't seem like the right time.'' I closed my eyes for a moment before looking back at him.
''I don't know what else to say.'' I told him and let my arms fall before he closed the space between us and reached for my hands. ''You can't keep things from me.'' He nodded and pulled one of my hands up so he could kiss it.
I watched as he did so, thinking how it wasn't fair; after all that he could get me to smile so easily.
Once he saw my smile he smiled too and let my hand down but still held onto them both.
''I'm your mate?'' I both asked and tried it out loud. He nodded and rubbed his thumb over my fingers.
''I'm your mate.'' He repeated but he said it as a fact and that not only am I his but he's mine.
''Your not upset that I'm a witch right?'' I needed to know, it was weighing on me. The heaviest of my concerns.
He nodded and his eyebrows rose. ''Absolutely not, Pax; you're perfect.'' He told me, sounding fully confident on his belief in that; so much so that I almost believed him.
But in this world I was far from it, I couldn't even protect myself. My basic magic that my mother taught me wasn't enough any more.
Werewolf's can track me, smell me and out run me; I couldn't just do little spells to help myself.
That witch that Daven had working for him, she knew more; she locked me inside the house with a spell.
Oh my god, my vision. Daven is going to kill her. Use her for all he could and when she is no longer useful he's just going to kill her. Like her life means nothing.
''Did you see the witch, the one with Daven?'' I asked a new sense of urgency in my voice as thought back on my vision.
He nodded though. ''She must of cleared out before Daven ran off.''
I sighed and hoped she managed to do so without it having to be with him.
''Can you try to find her? He's holding her against her will.'' I asked and explained. I wasn't going to let my vision's be wasted, not anymore.
The one useful source of magic I had at the moment. I needed to save her; to feel like my magic had a purpose again. To feel like I could do something, to save anyone even if I couldn't save myself.
''She helped trap you Pax.'' He told me like I wasn't the one who was trapped.
I nodded and let out a shaky breath.
''She's scared for her life and she's right too...I saw him kill her; In a vision.'' I hesitated but told him and I had no idea when but no one deserved to be hurt because some werewolf who has lost his mind.
