Chereads / The Rakken Accession / Chapter 5 - The Grimoire

Chapter 5 - The Grimoire

Once Julien heard Deans truck drive away and Pax's scent begin to fade as she rode to school with him; Julien made his way to the territories alpha. He wasn't sure if he could make an alliance for Pax but he would at least inform him of Daven.

Not only would this alpha know but so would all the other alphas he actually has alliances with.

''His mate was killed?'' Julien nodded at his question as they sat; in his office. Julien was used to sitting on the other side for this type of conversation in his short time of being an alpha.

''I've alerted the elder's but...he want's to hurt my mate because I'm helping a human he turned.'' Julien explained and sat back with a sigh.

The shock on his face was clear as Julien explained further on the rules he's broken. The rules he wants to break even further.

''So the madness is real then?'' The madness that can occur when a wolf looses his mate.

Julien looked down, regretful anyone had to loose their mate but this wasn't how it was handled. Julien lost his mother at a young age and his father was always strong, for his kids. Even loved Lauren with all he had to make up for her knowing that she died giving birth to her. He made damn sure to never let their mothers absence affect both Lauren or Julien.

''How can I help?'' He offered his help, sitting forward after they both thought on the madness. Only ever hearing of a few cases, far and few between.

Julien knew he would go mad without Pax, which is why he was here. They made their alliance, allowing Julien to come onto his territory whenever to see Pax and if Julien needed help against Daven; he would have his whole packs help.

By the time Julien finished, Pax was already home and so were her parents. So he held off on the call to let her know; Instead he waited patiently in the woods. Close enough to hear but not close enough to bother the conversation she was having with them.

He smiled the whole time, hearing her speak about them being mates. He could hear her talk all day.

After school Julien had to wait a bit, both my parents being home. Mom had him postpone any more meetings for the day so he could be caught up on everything that I had caught mom up on. He needed to know about Julien before he met him.

I wished she had just told him but she thought it would be better If I told him. He would take it better coming straight from me.

''Alright, I'm starting to get nervous.'' He told me with a smile as I stood, both of them sat on the living room couch and I tried to pull courage from Julien who I could feel was very close by.

''Remember Julien?'' I asked with a kind of shrug and he nodded before glancing at my mother; then back to me.

''I do?'' He asked and sat up to listen more intently. Something they both have been very good at for as long as I could remember.

''And remember when I said you could trust him...and that I trusted him too?'' I asked trying to make sure he did so telling him would be easier; I aimed to anyways.

''Yes; Pax just tell me, what happened?'' He glanced at my mother when I hesitated.

''Well...'' I swallowed before just telling him. ''He's, I'm his mate.'' I immediately let out a sigh, relieved to have gotten it out.

At least until I looked at his face. Shock and confusion all over it. I remained silent as he processed and bit my lip. Anxiously awaiting his response.

''You've got to say something Christopher.'' My mom told him and rubbed his back, probably to calm him but also encourage him.

He had looked down at some point and looked back up at me.

''If I ask to meet him again am I gonna get shot down?'' He understood what mates were but was still intent on meeting him; which I suppose was a good thing.

''No, of course not.'' I told him and turned to look over my shoulder. ''When do you wanna meet him?'' I asked and looked back at him. Knowing Julien was waiting.

''Do you mind if we invite him to dinner?'' He asked my mother since she would be the one cooking the meal and she nodded. Having already met him and got the impression she needed.

She likes him and now all I needed was for my dad to like him. I would have her help if we needed to convince him but Julien was hard to not like. That wasn't just my opinion either. It was clear to see he is good.

''That sounds like a plan, why don't you go ask Julien?'' She offered for me, gesturing to the back yard where she sensed he was waiting too. Not minding for him to join us.

I smiled, unable to hide it at the chance to see him. It had only been a handful of hours but I missed him.

''I'll help you start dinner after.'' I told her before my dad realized what she meant. The least I could do was help her since she was making this so easy. Being so supportive and understanding of it all.

''He's outside?'' He asked, also pointing toward the back yard when he did so. He was often always a step behind without having extra senses like we did.

''Your father will help me; come Christopher.'' Her voice was always calm and soft but effective. She was definitely the boss in the household and my father would never fight her on that.

She didn't wait for his response and made her way to the kitchen. He gave me a small smile before he walked to catch up with her. Never a good idea to leave her waiting.

I returned his smile with one of my own before opening the back door. I couldn't help but run from the excitement.

Julien sensed her approach and readied himself by standing from where he had sat and moved to meet her.

''Hey!'' Julien said and caught me as I ran to him, hugging me. I had missed him more then I cared to admit but when he placed me back onto the ground I looked up to see his large smile.

He was just as happy to see me as I was to see him. I wondered if he had managed to miss me in the time he was away.

''You didn't call about the alliance, how'd it go?'' Not that I thought he needed it but he seemed to want it. I hoped no news didn't mean bad news.

Julien smirked at my interest as he tucked some of my loose hair behind one of my ears; from my running and excitement.

''He's more then happy to help, the alliance will take a couple days though.'' He told me, satisfied with that.

Not sharing with her the madness, she knew anyway by his energy that he was broken; corrupt from his mates death. Julien didn't want her to worry when he knew he would end up like him without her; he just needed to protect her from it all.

''What did the elder's say?'' I asked when I realized I hadn't had the chance last night to ask; or rather I got distracted by his presence.

His was incredibly distracting. Absolutely beautiful and those eyes. I almost didn't hear what he said as I really looked at him; remembering just how perfect he is.

''They are putting resources toward it but until they get a tip on where he is they can't do anything.'' I nodded and looked at his lips when he finished speaking before I drew my eyes away; back to his eyes.

''Do you want to have dinner with us; if you can I mean?'' I didn't want to ruin him after all. ''Oh, um we don't eat meat; are you okay with that?'' I added, remembering and not sure how the werewolf thing worked with that.

Wolf's needed meat in their diet and he could transform into one, I had to ask.

''No problem.'' He nodded and a small smile graced his lips. ''it's more about the amount of calories rather then what is it.'' He explained further as he noticed how entranced I was well he spoke.

Liking my interest or even just the way I looked up at him.

I imagined he would have to eat much more. Given how fast he healed and is ability to change form. He was so warm too. That alone seemed enough for extra calories.

''Have you eaten at all today?'' He seemed to have had a busy day and that worried me if was supposed to be eating more.

''I ate with Cade, he offered for me to stay a bit since you weren't out of school yet.'' For lunch I assumed and was worried we wouldn't have enough to fill him. Cade was seeming like a good alpha to make an alliance with though.

''I'll have mom make extra.'' I spoke, telling him after some thought on it.

He nodded but smiled at me. ''No, whatever she makes will be perfect Pax.'' I nodded before he reached up to lightly graze his knuckles over my cheek, his eyes flickered between my eyes and my lips.

Wanting to kiss me again but still holding back for some reason. Did he want my permission every time?

''Do you want to kiss me?'' I asked and he fully looked into my eyes again.

''Very much.'' He spoke, his voice lower then it usually is; deeper but almost a whisper.

Julien licked his lower lip before he smirked and looked away. ''I should get you inside before you dad starts to get the wrong idea.'' He told me, looking amused now from having heard something.

Despite me very much wanting that kiss I nodded, also wanting my dad to like Julien very much and first impressions were important for my dad. I reached for his hand and he gladly linked our fingers to hold mine.

Julien let me lead him inside although he could easily walk faster then I could. At least until we got to the back door where he stepped forward to open it for me; allowing me to go in first after he released my hand to do so.

I smiled and looked down at the gesture, being both adorable and sexy. When I looked up, inside; my dad was walking from the kitchen to see who had come in. Checking if it was just me or the both of us.

Julien walked around me and past me to introduce himself with a handshake; a firm one by the look of it. Already getting brownie points from my dad for sure.

''I'm Julien, It's very nice to finally meet you.'' He told him and my dad nodded, having thought that was all he was going to do in response for a moment.

I took a few steps further into the living room, nervously waiting for this to go well.

''I'm the one who's glad to finally meet you. I'm Chris'' My father nodded, nearly getting emotional at the thought of my life being in danger in the first place, but thankful to Julien none the less.

In such a short time Julien had already done so much. With introduction out of the way I placed myself beside Julien, the feeling of being next to him was natural. Like my magic was always trying to wonder to him; I didn't even need to focus.

''Christopher, offer him a seat.'' My mother called to him from the kitchen, she was only one to call him that; and she was the only one he let call him that.

''Yes, I'm sorry; have a seat. I'll finish helping you mom.'' He offered then told me before returning to said kitchen. Mom was always the host for a reason or rather I suppose just why dad never was the host.

''Thank you.'' Julien said before he had returned and then turned to me, I smiled at him largely. Excited it went well.

He smiled too upon seeing mine and I gestured for him to sit as my mother had requested. No need for him to be standing this time, after all he has had a busy day.

''Dinner will take a bit so, you wanna sit?'' I asked and shrugged, offering but no pressure if he didn't want to. She had just started prep when I headed out to see and get Julien.

''Only if you sit with me.'' He offered with a smirk and gestured to the couch himself, not moving until I began too. Not sitting until I sat too.

I couldn't help but watch him, the way he moved; walked and even the way he sat. When he did sit after me he placed his arm above me, on the couch behind me. I however wanted it around me but I kept it to myself and bit my lip as I looked forward, away from him.

Nervous suddenly by his closeness and what I should even say. I know were mates and it's probably impossible to push him away but I was very scared that I could do that. I haven't had a single successful relationship and I could image he has. He's perfect and knows exactly what to say. He even seems to have more experience.

''Hey, what's up? Why are you nervous?'' He asked and sat forward, removing his arm from the couch to do so. I looked over at him, still finding it strange to have someone other then my mother who just knows, senses these things.

I let out a sigh after he asked and expressed my concern.

''I just- I don't want to mess this up. I don't know how to; how to be a good mate.'' He looked at me like I was crazy and I regretted saying anything at all, having even thought of not sharing my insecurity's on the matter.

''Pax, you could never; and I mean never mess this up.'' He explained to me, assuring me on the matter. Almost sounding like it would be him if anyone.

I turned on the couch, bringing one of my legs up and looked at him after I adjusted.

''I haven't even had a boyfriend before.'' I admitted and he raised an eyebrow, making me think on that it seemed like that's what I was calling him. My boyfriend, we are mates but we haven't spoke on terms.

I came close once when Dean and I had just started high school but he had no real interest in me. It was about trying to figure out why I was such a freak; a prank. Dean's first and only fight, ever actually.

''I've never been with anyone either Pax.'' He also adjusted and turned even further to look at me. ''I have been waiting for you, I've never even wanted anyone else.'' He reached forward and picked up my hand, pulling it close to his chest to hold there.

Having had the knowledge that mates are real.

''Really?'' I whispered for some reason, shocked by the information. I smiled after a moment of thought. We're truly made for each other; maybe the first time I've truly believed that.

I leaned forward, quickly to not talk myself out of it and kissed him. He released my hand and I placed it flat against his chest and he pushed my hair back and cupped my face with one the hand he freed.

We both deepened it for one more kiss, one longer kiss that he and I savored. I pulled back, keeping my eyes closed for a moment longer as our foreheads rested against each others. Julien let his hand fall from my face as he reached for my hand on his chest, placing it over mine.

''Yes; by the way.'' He responded after a breath with a small chuckle, not having giving him a chance when I kissed him to respond right away.

I pulled back and laughed, letting it settle to a smile when I looked at him. A smile already on his lips; I had felt it toward the end of our kiss. Our amazing kiss, each seeming to only get better.

''You can't hurt me; ever.'' I told him, knowing in this moment that I'm falling in love with him.

''Never.'' And Julien would do everything in his power to make sure no one else hurt her either. He needed to protect her.

Julien would gladly spend the rest of his life more then happy to do so to convince her how true it all was. She is beyond perfect in his eyes and he'd give his life up if it meant she would live.

Once dinner was almost ready dad came to get us and Julien helped me set the table before mom came in with the food to serve with the help of dad. It was filled with chatting far more then usual. Dad had many questions and mom made sure he didn't ask too much; to let Julien eat. It was nice to hear any of his answers though. Just happy to hear him speak but also happy to know more about him through it.

''What about your father, you seem so young?'' My father asked after asking about him being an alpha and my mother sat back, a simple question if there wasn't more to it.

Julien cleared his throat before setting his fork down. ''There was an accident, about a year ago now. I had to step up a bit earlier.'' I looked at him, it still a painful memory and placed my hand on his leg under the table. My attempt to offer support.

Alpha's normally inherit the pack when they turn 25.

He looked over at me after, grabbing my hand to hold there. A half smile on his face. I couldn't help but wonder of his mother, had something happened to her too or would I get to meet her?

''I'm very sorry to hear that Julien.'' My mother offered and he nodded, sure he's heard the sorry plenty of times; never really helping though.

My dad cleared his throat, not meaning to bring the mood down. ''I'm sorry, no young man should have to lose their father.'' Speaking from experience.

Yet another thing Dean and my father had in common and now Julien too. My father had lost him to a car accident when he was in his 20's. Soon after meeting my mother, he always mentioned how thankful he was to have her around; then and now.

''Well, how about we get some desert and I give you one of your birthday presents early?'' My mother offered as she stood, not enterally offering and already going to get it.

''I'll get the desert.'' My father pushed his chair out, having the same sweet tooth as I did and always down for some. He also hasn't anything homemade in the last few days.

Julien sat back in his chair when they both left to retrieve something, bringing my hand up to place a kiss on it before he placed it back where I had put it.

''What about you mom?'' I asked, my voice low; worried what the answer might be after his father.

Julien pulled my hand up to kiss it once more before speaking.

''She died in childbirth.'' He told me simply. Not seeming as heartbroken, not as recent.

''Oh, Julien I'm so sorry.'' He gave more then half a smile this time and nodded.

''It's okay, I knew her for a few good years but I was young.'' So it wasn't his birth. Does he have a brother or a sister? ''My father made sure we never forget about her. Lauren had a harder time with it.'' He explained and sat back up when my dad brought in a pie, making me sit up too.

A sister, I smiled; glad to hear the memories he did remember were good ones.

''It's our favorite.'' He told me; chocolate pie. Just as he set it down mom too entered with the gift.

Whatever it was it was wrapped in cloth. I looked at her as she explained herself; why she was gifting it to me early.

''This was your great grandmother's and since you inherited her power I thought it was only right, not to mention how you might find more use then any of us did with it.'' She handed it too me and Julien let my hand go so I could retrieve it from her.

A grimoire, I felt the magic in my hands; even through the cloth.

''It's bound in witch leather, only witches can open it.'' She explained upon seeing my smile when I unwrapped the cloth to release it. Witch leather being leather that was spelled for only witches to touch; allowing them to open it too.

I looked back at Julien with my excitement and he was happy to see it.

I traced my fingers over the latches and they popped open. The book wanting to be opened for the first time in years, my mom had never even shown this to me. I thought we only had one. I didn't even know that my great grandmother was physic.

As I skimmed through the pages my dad plated the desert for each of us, not wanting to wait for his slice so he got it ready for us too.

Julien took his and mine, placing it by me so I could focus on the grimoire but I wanted to really look at it later. Especially when I noticed he wasn't eating, waiting for me.

I knew he was waiting for me when I picked up my fork to eat and he followed my actions. I wondered if that was just a him thing or if it was a werewolf or even mate related. I closed my eyes at the first bit, her chocolate pie to die for; literally. I swear she found a way to use magic when she made it because whenever I try to make it it's never the same or as good.

''Thank you for everything it was delicious.'' Julien thanked both my parents but mostly my mother who did the majority of the cooking. It was her touch that truly made it good; well edible. My dad was pretty useless when It came to cooking although he could cook a great boxed mac and cheese.

After dinner, Julien and I went for a tiny walk before he had to go back to the pack house for a bit but he's asked the alpha of the territory to do extra patrols for Daven so well he was away I was safe. I desperately wanted him to stay, each time he left it felt harder and harder. I could see it was hard for him too but I wasn't sure if that was just because he missed me or if he was worried too about Daven coming back without him here. Just to mess with me; no he wanted to hurt me to hurt Julien over 'stealing' Nick.

''Can I meet Cade; I mean he is helping me. I should thank him shouldn't I?'' I my arms linked around the back of his neck as I looked up a him.

Julien turned his head at my request but smiled none the less.

''I can arrange that, far warning though; he's never met a witch.'' He explained, not sure why that was a warning. Unless he would have questions but those were easy; as long as he could be trusted. Julien spoke after a bit of further thought. ''You'll make a wonderful Luna.'' He told me.

I had never thought about my role, given that he is a alpha. The female version of an alpha being a Luna. I was to help him run a pack of werewolf's. The thought bringing me sudden fear, I didn't even know their species existed until a few days ago.

''Not now though right?'' I asked, not ready to even think about truly helping him with it, not until I've learned more.

He nearly laughed at my question and nodded. ''There's a process, don't worry though; not until your ready.'' A amused smile remained on his face as he moved his hands slightly lower on my back.

I nodded before he sighed, knowing he had to get going. I've been taking so much of his time lately, not giving him much time for anything else.

I released my hold around him, willing to let him go; kind of. He however held on to lean down just before my lips.

''Kiss me already.'' I whisper, the permission given and he closed the space in between them; able to feel his smirk as he did so.

The kiss was short and sweet but I pecked another on his lips before he could fully pull back and stand straight again. A smile still remaining his lips after I did so, even after his hands fell from my waist.

Julien still didn't want to leave until after I was safe inside the house, as safe as I could be. I held onto his energy for as long as I could until I could no longer feel him. I would have to ask him later where he lives, how far he was.

Sad to say Daven was right about me not knowing where he lives but it wasn't as easy for me to travel as it was for him. He could run far faster, seeming to do so in both his forms.

After helping clean up in the dining room and kitchen, my parents and I said goodnight to each other before I headed upstairs to get ready for bed; not sure if I could so without even the smallest presence of Julien.

Him being the one who had ruined me.
