After closing from work, Mr. Smith asked his driver to take him to the president's house.
Mr. Smith wasn't having the intention of going to the president's house to see him, but for John, the president's son. He never knew that John was a skirt chaser, the only thing he considered was the money. He knew that all his wealth belonged to Kate after leaving this earth, but Mr. Smith still wanted Kate to depend on her husband when she got married.
Mr. Smith was not comfortable when he saw Kate and Jack speaking romantically to each other the previous day. It occurred to his mind that Jack was up to something when he saw them together, but Jack decided to lie to him.
"The youths of this 21st century always show that they are smarter than we, the old people." Mr. Smith will always say.
Mr. Smith got to the president's house after a few minutes of journey from his office. Getting to the president was hard for lower-class people, but not for people like Mr. Smith because he was a billionaire and a friend of the president.
"Welcome, sir." The securities greeted Mr. Smith.
President Armstrong was already in the big and well-decorated living room because he was already informed that Mr. Smith had arrived, so he came into the living room to wait for him.
John was in his room operating his laptop while his younger ones were in the dining room having their dinner and their mother, Mrs. Grace Armstrong, was taking a shower.
"Hey, my friend, Mr. Smith, welcome." President Armstrong greeted him as they shook hands.
"Thank you, your Excellency, how was the birthday celebration?"
Mr. Smith responded.
"Well, we thank God for everything," President Armstrong replied.
"I'm deeply sorry that I couldn't call you that very day after the party." Mr. Smith apologized.
"No problem brother. You were around during the party, so you don't have to bother yourself with that. You must not call again. I appreciate your care, Mr. Smith." President Armstrong responded.
Mr. Smith spent some time in the president's house until dawn. After having some time with the president, Mr. Smith sends for John so that he can have a word with him. That time the president went to his room to do something essential, and Mr. Smith used the opportunity to talk to John.
"Yes, sir, you sent for me," John said as he stood in front of Mr. Smith.
"Yeah, John. Please come and sit closer, John. What's going on between you and my daughter?" Mr. Smith asked him. "I'm sorry sir, I don't understand who you are talking about," John answered, looking confused.
"Alright. I mean, the new lady you met at your father's birthday party." Mr. Smith explained.
"Oh, yeah. How about her?" John asked with excitement and relief.
"She's my daughter. I sighted you from afar when you approached her that day." Mr. Smith said as he crossed his right leg on the other leg.
"It's true, but she didn't give me her contact, so I can reach her anytime I feel like talking to her, but I never knew that she is your daughter," John spoke.
"Am aware that you don't know her as my daughter. Why do you need her contact?" Mr. Smith asked.
"I wanted us to be friends," John answered.
"I think it's more than friendship. Are you convinced that that's what made you go to her?" Mr. Smith asked John.
"Not really. How I wish, she will be my wife." John said as he fixed his gaze on the ground.
"We only met at the birthday party and I tried to talk to her, but she didn't give me the chance to express myself. Because she was not paying any attention to what I was saying. If I had her contact, I would have called her, but I didn't, but Thank God that you opened up to me." John bitterly complained.
Mr. Smith sat quietly for a few seconds. John loves Kate, but he was beating around the bush without opening up his intention toward Kate to her father.
"I'm sorry sir, to be sincere, I truly love Kate, but she never shows that she cares, and I don't know what to do," John said.
"Well, I can give you my house address if you like." Mr. Smith said.
"I will appreciate sir if you do so." John appreciated it.
"No problem, you are always welcome. You are free to come to my house at any time, and you will be welcome. I just want to know if you are having affairs with my daughter. As you know, it is not proper for you to keep a secret relationship." Mr. Smith said.
"Sure, sir," John answered.
Mr. Smith gave John his house address and told him he will be expecting him anytime soon from now. John only has the intention of using Kate and dumping her. Mr. Smith, on the other hand, was thinking that he was giving his daughter to someone that can protect and provide for her needs, not knowing that he was doing the opposite. This wasn't because he wanted his daughter to get married now. But he thought doing that will protect and keep her mind away from poor men's children outside there. Furthermore, she can focus on John, the president's son until she's of age.
After a few minutes, of discussion, John left for his room. President Armstrong finally came back to meet Mr. Smith in the living room.
"I apologize for keeping you waiting." President Armstrong apologized as he sat on a sofa.
"It's alright, your excellency. I was also having a word with John, so he kept me company." Mr. Smith responded.
"Oh, he was here?" President Armstrong asked him.
"Yeah. He just left a few minutes ago." Mr. Smith answered.
After discussing a lot with the president, Mr. Smith left for his house.
Kate had been expecting her father's arrival, but it was taking ages for him to reach home. Kate was worried, and she decided to dial his phone number.
Mr. Smith picked up the call.
"Hello, Dad," Kate's voice came from the phone.
"Hey, Kate, how are you?" Mr. Smith asked.
"I'm fine, Dad. I've been waiting for you all day long. What happened and why are you not yet back?" Kate asked with a worried face.
"I'm sorry, my little angel. Don't worry about me, I'm fine. I'm already on my way back home." Mr. Smith replied.
"Please Dad, be fast. I'm missing you." Kate spoke meekly.
"Oh, really?" Mr. Smith asked.
"Yes, Dad," Kate answered as she tapped her feet.
Mr. Smith came back home and found Kate laying on one of the couches in the living room. She stood up and welcomed him with a hug.
Kate didn't eat her dinner, instead, she was waiting for her father to come back so that they could eat together.
After the dinner, Mr. Smith told Kate about his meeting with John, the president's son. Kate was surprised to hear her father talking about someone she just met a few days ago, and they haven't come in contact with each other again. How is it possible that her father was talking about John? Could it be that she has landed herself in trouble, or was her dad up to something? She was confused at first when her father called the president's son the name.
Mr. Smith told her everything he discussed with John, how he promised to come over.
She was okay with the stories he was telling her. But when she heard that John was coming over, her mood swings, and immediately after Mr. Smith saw her face, he knew that she didn't like John. He wasn't ready to let her follow that poor boy who was a carpenter.
Mr. Smith saw how excited Kate was when she met the Carpenter boy, Jack. She was full of happiness and he knew that.
He was trying to let her avoid Jack, and he will do anything it takes to stop her from seeing John. He wanted Kate to deal with people in her class.
"What is my father up to? I hope he is not attempting to make me date that proud boy called John. Who cares about his money? If it is money, her dad has money that she can feed on." Kate thought to herself.
She just hoped that her dad wasn't attempting to force her to date John because it won't work. She cannot even go close to him.
Kate was worried as all these things were running through her mind and she was even confused about what to do. Though she wasn't aware of what her father was trying to do, she had the feeling that he was up to something.
This was the genesis of the relationship problems she needed to cope with.
