Kate went back home, feeling worried about what happened at Mr. Roland's shop. Her mind didn't allow her to agree that it was the Jack she knew that did what happened in the shop. Curiosity took over her, and she took her phone from the bed to call Jack, but she wasn't feeling comfortable asking Jack such a question.
Kate's mind was not at rest.
She summoned the courage to call him, but she got scared the more when the phone rang for a long time, and he didn't pick up.
She tried again, and it was still the same result, he didn't pick up the call.
Mr. Smith dropped from the black Rolls-Royce, which was opened for him by one of his guards. He walked past all the maidens and male servants who came to welcome him.
It was a command in his mansion that everyone must come and welcome him whenever he comes back from wherever he went to. So, it has become the habit of servants.
Two of his bodyguards followed him behind as he motioned towards the mansion living room door entrance. One of his bodyguards was holding his briefcase in his right hand as they followed him.
The other servants were dismissed to their various places of work.
Mr. Smith stepped into the living room, where the door was opened by one of his bodyguards that were following him.
He was about to climb upstairs to his room and something reminded him that he hadn't seen Kate. He went back to check on Kate, but he told the bodyguard that was holding his briefcase to take it to his room. Likewise, he told the other to go to his duty post, which they did.
Mr. Smith knocked on Kate's room, but she didn't answer. He called her name, but she remained silent. Mr. Smith tried to open the door, but it was locked inside, Kate probably locked it.
"Kate! Kate!" He screamed her name out, but Kate didn't utter a word, and fear gripped Mr. Smith. He thought that something bad may have happened to her there. Which made her lose her strength to be able to move. He hit the door so hard that his servants had to rush into the house.
"Why is Kate's room locked?" He asked his servants, who were staring at him like a mad man.
"I have no idea, Sir," One of the maids answered while the others stood confused.
"Sir, she came back looking moody and unhappy, so I asked her what was wrong, but she said she was fine. But when I came back to inform her of her dinner, she shouted at me, telling me not to come anywhere close to her room." Nancy, the chief maiden, explained.
"Good. Michael, I asked you and one of your colleagues to follow her wherever she goes, right?" Mr. Smith asked the chief guard.
"Yes sir," Michael answered.
"Now, tell me where you took her to." Mr. Smith said as he expected an explanation.
"We took her to an open market area in Mainland. There she met her friend who owns a clothing store, and they spent some time together, but I can't really say what their discussion was about because she asked us to excuse them." Michael explained.
Mr. Smith stood thinking of what may have occurred in the process of her discussion with Jessica.
Could it be that it's because John came to visit her in the morning? Mr. Smith mumbled.
"Was she angry when she left the house?" Mr. Smith asked.
"Yes, she was. But if I may guess, she was only angry at the president's son who came here in the morning. Because, when we got to her friend's place, she was very excited and happy. It occurred to me that she was no longer smiling the way she was before. I noticed it when we left her friend's store." Michael explained.
"Did they have any quarrel?" Mr. Smith asked him.
"Actually, no. Because if they did, we would have noticed it." Michael explained.
"I think I have a clue of why she is angry," Antonio, Kate's second bodyguard who also followed her with Michael, said.
"Yes, go on," Mr. Smith said to him.
"If I can remember, when we got to the open market, there was a fire accident opposite her friend's store. And before she could proceed to her friend's store, she stood for a while and examined the burning shop with a frown face before she proceeded to her friend's place," Antonio explained.
The fire accident was actually broadcasted on the news and Mr. Smith watched it in his office. The CEO of the shop pictured was there, and it happens to be the same person who did maintenance work in his room the previous week. This sent a signal to Mr. Smith's brain that something was wrong somewhere. Mr. Smith thought for a while, and he finally found a glimpse of what may be wrong.
"The boy of that day."
Mr. Smith's brain recalls Jack, who he saw standing with Kate the day they came to his house.
"I knew something was fishy about that boy, but they decided to team up and lied to me." Mr. Smith mumbled.
"Alright, everyone should go to his or her duty post. Thank you all for the help." Mr. Smith appreciated the servants.
They both obeyed and left, but Nancy came back and asked, "Sir, should your food be served on the dining table or should it be taken to your room?"
"I'm a bit stressed. Although coming downstairs will be a challenge to me, I still prefer the dining room." Mr. Smith responded.
"Alright, sir," Nancy answered and left for the kitchen.
Mr. Smith moved closer to Kate's door and placed his left ear on the door to hear her movements. What Mr. Smith heard was a tiny voice coming out from the room, and it seemed like Kate was crying her eyes out.
The voice was now clear in his ears, Kate was crying in a whisper.
Mr. Smith tried everything possible to make Kate come and open the door, but it almost took an eternity for her to come and open the door.
When Kate came out of her room, her father hugged her and comforted her soul to stop her from disturbing her peace.
Mr. Smith asked her what happened, but Kate couldn't lie to her father, even if he was going to get angry with what she would say. She explained to him and Mr. Smith didn't show her his anger so that she wouldn't get hurt the more. Instead, he pretended to behave like everything was fine.
To Kate, her father has really changed because he never cared about her happiness before but now, he is taking good care of her as his only daughter.
This has been Kate's daily prayer that her father should change for good so that she can live a free and happy life. It seems like her prayers have been answered, but her problem now is that her father was not ready to support her relationship with Jack. Instead, he wants her to date John.
"Kate, you don't have to do this to yourself because of a boy." Mr. Smith said to her.
"But Dad, I love him," Kate responded.
"Kate, you see, I need someone that will take good care of you even when I am no more. Someone who will tell you to sit at home, and he will go out there and bring food for you and your unborn children, and not someone that will ask you to seek employment just to stress you." Mr. Smith said.
"Dad, who is inheriting your properties when you are no more?" Kate asked him with a frown face.
"It's you, of course." Mr. Smith answered.
"Then why worry about my future? My future is already secure and safe with only your support and consideration of my choice." Kate said as she let out more tears.
Mr. Smith couldn't stand watching his only daughter crying in his presence. He wiped away her tears and patted her cheeks to stop her from crying.
After a long hug, he asked her to go to the dining table and that he will be with her within minutes. She nodded and they broke the hug.
Mr. Smith climbed upstairs to his room to take a shower before coming back for dinner.
Kate went back to her room to arrange it because she angrily scattered some things on her bed when she was crying.
After arranging everything, she went to the dining table to wait for her dad, but she was still worried about Jack. She decided to text him through an SMS, thinking that he might reply, but it didn't work out for her.
After enjoying their meal, her dad advised her not to allow anything to rob her of her peace.
Her dad wasn't ready to support her relationship, and this is a battle she will need to fight to gain her freedom!
