Chapter 13 - 13 WHY LYING?

Jack's mother fainted and Jack and his father thought that that was the last of her in their lives, but no, it wasn't. When Mrs. Elizabeth fainted, Jack's father ordered Jack for water from the tap, and they sprinkle it on her head, but she didn't show any sign of waking up. Mr. John rushed out for a taxi that will take her to a nearby clinic, while Jack was busy fanning her. His phone started ringing in his pocket and he used his left hand to bring it out, while he used his right hand to fan his mother.

The person calling appears to be Kate, but he was too busy to talk to anyone, especially anything like a romantic discussion. He was distressed about his mother's condition. The call came again the second time, but Jack didn't bother to check the caller, all his attention was now on his mother.

Before Mr. John could come back from getting the taxi, his wife was already awake. They were overwhelmed with joy.

But Mr. John still took her to the clinic for a check-up. She was found with nothing, only that her blood pressure was high, and that's what caused the trauma of her fainting.

It was another beautiful morning.

"Thank you, Jack." Mrs. Elizabeth appreciated it as she stood up and properly sat on the bed to take her medicine, and Jack supported her to sit well.

"Mom, how are you feeling now?" Jack asked her.

"I'm getting better, Jack. Thank you. What of your father?" She asked.

"Oh, he left for work. He said, "He wanted to avoid disturbing your sleep, so he left without informing you." Jack responded.

"Can you please help me with breakfast?" Mrs. Elizabeth said.

"Oh, sorry. I forgot." Jack said and stood up and went to the kitchen to bring his mother breakfast so that she can eat and take her medicine. Jack brought some freshly baked bread with a fried egg and hot tea and brought it to her. He placed it on the center table for her.

"Here we go, mom," Jack excitedly said.

"Aww, thank you." She appreciated it.

"Welcome, Mom," Jack responded as he gestured to a seat to sit down.

(R_I_N_G_I_N_G)

Jack's cell phone was ringing on one of the seats, but he couldn't locate it, but he could probably hear the ringing tone. He finally found it under one of the pillows on the couch. Before he could answer the call, it was already hung up. He wasn't having sufficient airtime in his line to call back. Jack went back to where he was sitting down, and the phone started ringing again. This time, he was with the phone, and he immediately picked up the call.

"Hello, Jack," Kate's voice came from the phone.

"Hey, Kate, how are you?" Jack replied with a smiling face.

"Am not fine!" Kate yelled at him from the phone.

"Hey, calm down. What's happening?" Jack asked, looking confused.

"I gave you two missed calls yesterday, and you didn't pick up the call, neither did you call me." Kate angrily said.

"Hey, relax. Why are you so angry, as if I stole your ATM card away?" Jack jokingly asked.

"Jack, this isn't funny at all. Just tell me why you didn't pick up my call." Kate said with a serious tone, although Kate was indirectly asking Jack about the fire accident that happened the previous day, she would rather not break it out so that he can tell her with his mouth.

"Okay, I apologize for everything. I was very busy yesterday, that's why. We had a lot of work yesterday, and we worked until sunset, so I was so tired that I couldn't call you back." Jack lied to her.

His mum who was listening to their conversation while eating her breakfast abruptly stopped and stared at Jack for a while. Jack signals his mum to forget about them because he knows what he is doing.

"Jack!" Kate shouted his name and roughly scratched at her head as if she were about to run mad.

"Kate, why are you so mad at me? What's wrong?" Jack asked and chuckled.

"Jack, I want to avoid getting angry at you. Please, what did you do yesterday?" Kate relaxed her mind and asked Jack.

Jack was beginning to have a feeling that Kate heard of what happened yesterday. How could she possibly know that he was the cause of the fire accident when his picture was not displayed on the television screen when the news was given?

"Kate, I don't understand what you're saying. Are you a doubting Thomas? I told you that I was busy at work yesterday. Why should I lie about that?" Jack replied with a serious tone to clear whatever rumors she had heard about him.

Jack's mom shook her head at Jack, informing him that lies are not good for someone like him, but Jack turned away his gaze from her so that he wouldn't see what she was trying to tell him.

"Jack, you know what? I am just trying my best not to get angry at you, but you are not helping it, instead, you prefer lying to me. But no problem, since you insist that you were busy working yesterday, then it's fine. I must say bye for now," Kate said as she tried to hang up the call, but Jack pleaded with her not to hang up.

"Kate, hmm" he called her name and sighed a relief, feeling nervous.

"Yes, go on," Kate responded.

"I will apologize for lying to you about yesterday morning's call and the two missed calls you gave me. You see, what happened was that we were working in our workshop, and I was trying to use one of the sockets in the shop, and it exploded. The shop caught fire, which brought the loss of many things, but I thank God that the fire didn't extend to other peoples' properties, instead, it only stopped in our shop and I am grateful for that." Jack explained, with an unhappy face.

"And what did your boss tell you?" Kate asked him.

"Nothing serious. He was only worried about the loss, and that's all." Jack lied again.

"It seems like you can't live your life without lies. Jack, why are you like this? Why must you lie to cover the truth? You don't know who may help you tomorrow, so please stop lying to people around you." Kate advised him. Jack was speechless when he heard what she said.

"What do you mean?" He pretended not to understand what she was saying.

"Jack, you know that it's not the truth that you told me about your boss being worried about his lost properties and didn't ask you to pay," Kate responded. Jack was now convinced that Kate also watched the news yesterday.

But how did she know that?

"Oh, she saw my boss's picture, and we once went to their house with my boss. Now I know how she got all this information." Jack mumbled.

"Yeah, he asked for compensation which he demanded $1 million because the things we had in were not expensive materials that's why he only asked $1 million," Jack replied.

"You see, and you were trying to keep these things to yourself just to rob yourself of your peace. I know all these things, but I wanted to confirm it from your mouth, and now I am convinced. As a matter of fact, I had a restless mind because of this." Kate said.

"You know about it? But how?" Jack asked.

"Someone told me," Kate answered.

"And who could that be?" Jack asked her.

"That's none of your business. So, how is your dad planning to pay it?" Kate asked him.

"My dad is even confused about what to do because getting the money before the weekend is a big challenge for him. I will be arrested if I don't pay the money before or on that day." Jack answered with a low tone.

"Tell him not to worry himself, I will take care of that," Kate promised him.

"What! Are you joking or what?" Jack asked with surprise.

"Am not joking. It's a promise." Kate said.

Jack showered praises on Kate. He was overwhelmed with joy in him.

"Please send me your house address and I will come tomorrow," Kate said.

"I will do that ASAP (as soon as possible)."

Jack replied.

Kate hung up the call and Jack was so happy to get help from whom he has been hiding his problems. Surely, she is a destiny helper. Jack couldn't thank her enough.

After the call, Jack told his mother what Kate promised him, and she was so excited and flabbergasted.

Jack has been thinking of how his father will be able to raise such an amount of money but thank God for Kate. She came as a blessing into their lives.
