The following day arrived earlier than expected. The air was crackling with tension and anxiety. Light murmurs could be heard in every corner of the castle.
News spread like fire. Thanks to the outrageous sense of vampires. By the time the sun set below the horizon, the entire palace was buzzing with gossip groupies.
Letting members of rival species walk straight through our doors and not just any girl a 'werewolf Alpha' who also turned out the miracle female, we had been waiting for.
Tragic.
Over time, it turned into a hot topic whether we should be celebrating, or scared of revealing our den to an enemy clan member.
During the great war, my father discovered this place and worked hard to make it a sanctuary for our people. This place was well hidden from the enemy gaze. Most of them were still denied that this place exists, and believe me, we had no desire to prove them wrong.
A powerful and ancient spell protects the castle from evil gazes. Only a person once stepped inside could see through the glamor.
The risk involved in giving a wolf a free pass to walk into the castle falls heavy on my shoulders.
It was hard to swallow that the girl we were looking for so long could be a werewolf. In my mind, I was expecting a human, a witch, or even a fellow vampire. Sadly, not even close to reality.
The train of my thoughts halted when a knock echoed at my door. I called for whoever was outside to come in. The doors burst open to reveal Darius. He was dressed in his uniform ready for the special day, however; the confusion hazed his eyes telling me otherwise.
He bowed his head. "Good morning, my lord."
I nodded and replied, "Good morning, Darius." before he proceeded further.
"I got a message from Soren. They arrived with a prisoner. The courtyard is waiting for you to start."
Prisoner? Yeah, that's the least I could do to stop the riot. This way, I could give my people a sense of assurance that they were still safe in these walls and no harm could reach us.
"Hmmm….. Let's not make them wait. Shall we? " I winked as I walked past Darius pacing towards the courtroom. He followed silently.
I noticed several worried gazes and anxious looks while making my way to the court. I fixed a nonexistent crease on a traditional red cloak I was wearing as I continued my walk.
The Candle-lit hallways of my castle were dipped in chaos today, not like every other day, deadly calm. I guessed not everyone was happy at the arrival of our new guest, or should I call her prisoner?
One of our enemies, a werewolf, a fucking pure-blood alpha over that. Right, some of us were looking forward to meeting her. They were rare species, after all.
I couldn't blame them because I felt the same excitement coursing through my veins, boosting with each step I inched close to the courtroom.
Oh, how much I would love to kill that filthy wolf with my bare hands. Maybe I could keep her blood as a memorial. Pure bloodlines were rare nowadays. However, I had to keep these thoughts to myself until the Oracle was done with the ritual for which this girl delivered here, or it would be a waste of all the hard work.
I took the other door to the courtroom which led straight to the throne.
First, the throne carved out of black moonstone came into sight. It was glittering under the silver glow of the moon sneaking inside through the tiny ceiling glass window. I admired that fine piece of art that once belonged to my father. Now it belonged to me
Wasn't it amusing, how could a piece of rock have provided one ultimate superiority over thousands of people? Not that I was complaining.
All the chaos came to a halt as I sauntered into the view of the entire court.
Spines stretched straight, standing to their full height, heads down in respect, not a single one of them looking me in the eye. I claimed my seat, and others followed suit.
I ran my gaze over my people before moving to the tiny figure standing in the middle with four of my guards circling her. It wasn't exactly tiny, but from the height, I sat at; it was kinda tiny to me.
Standing down, a woman in clothes stained from water and dirt. Her hair was as bright as a burning fire, stuck by the side of her small face. Her athlete-built and toned skin color say that someone followed a fitness routine, or maybe it came with her werewolf genes. Most women like slim figures, however, this woman here, rather not. Interesting.
A blindfold was blocking her view. I couldn't tell which color her eyes were.
What a shame if she couldn't see me in the eyes when I was going to order to cut her body into portable pieces and send it to her dear father as a present from the Darkness.
'Not a bad idea, I should give it a thought.' I smirked at my thought.
With amusement dancing in my gaze, I motioned a guard standing next to her to release the blindfold. The black silk fell on the white marble floor, releasing a pair of beautiful brown eyes, which made me gasp in shock.
As an instinct, I sniffed the air surrounding me, and immediately my mind blew up with the smell of lavender and honey. Sure this wasn't mine. It was hers. This woman was infuriating.
I clutched my armrest and urged, to get back to my senses when the air surroundings continued to suffocate me.
However, there wasn't only me who could sense this sudden change in the environment. Everyone present in the room could feel it but did not understand what it was until a certain someone voiced it out in a mere whisper. The perks of being vampires every one of us heard loud and clear as day.
My eyes buzzed out, jaw dropped to the floor. Horror-struck everyone's faces so did the owner of the words.
"You gotta be kidding me! There had to be a mistake.....No.... no! How could you be my mate?" Redhead's eyes widened in surprise, meanwhile, my mind went blank after hearing her statement.
Several gasps echoed in the background before all hell broke loose. That's what I feared most.
'What the hell is going on here?!'
