"This way, my lady"
Nancy pushed open the double door and stepped aside to give me a sight of what was waiting ahead.
I wasn't breathing for a moment. My skin tickled with the sense of danger. The crimson-red glares were directed at me. Oh, and not one or two pairs. How could I be lucky to get an easy pass? Right. Nope, not for me, boss. At this point, I started to wonder if the moon goddess held some grudge against me.
'Let's stick to the bitchy attitude.'
It took a great deal out of me not to run for my dear life and crawl under the bed. My so-called inner alpha didn't allow me to do that.
With my head held high, I stepped into the enormous hall filled with tables and chairs looking like a royal family dining room except for the fact that the crowd filling the space were no humans but red-eyed, vile creatures with scary fangs.
Nancy was doing her best job to get me through the crowd, which was looking at me like I was a four-course meal.
She led me to the rectangular table, which was set away from the other round tables taken by vampires. It didn't escape my sight that all the people sitting at the rectangular table were dressed formally compared to the other crowd. It wasn't like a uniform, though everyone dressed differently. However, their way of dressing and strong aura made them stand out in the crowd separately.
While assessing them, my stares collide with the icy blue gaze of the man who sat in the place reserved for the head.
I didn't know if vampires could have such beautiful eyes. Until meeting him, all I came across were red-eyed monsters. A hot, icy glare monster was new.
Like other members sitting at the same table, he was dressed formally, but the way he rolled the sleeves of his black shirt up to the elbows and let the top two buttons open for imagination gave him a charismatic and carefree look. His hair was wild but a hot mess, I must add.
Blood rushed back to my brain cells when I heard an awkward noise of throat-clearing coming from somewhere behind, forcing me to avert my gaze to the other way and pretend as if I wasn't probing the most handsome man in the room just a millisecond ago.
Nope, not at all. You got the wrong person. Not me.
"Glad you finally made it. Come join us." Let's not be swayed by the alluring voice of prince charming and those dimples. Behind this facade, sarcasm was as clear as day.
"Like I had a choice." Oops! I didn't mean to say that out loud. Kidding. I prefer to let him know.
"Let's not make everyone wait anymore." A muscle in his jaw moved, and he shot me an icy glare, warning me otherwise.
What a gentleman-ish act. He didn't bother to stand up to pull the chair for me. I was on my own. Wait, did I expect him to do so? Nope, not at all. Never.
Other than me, everyone else had a glass of red liquid placed in front of them, along with a plate of steak. Vampires could eat meat? At least this strange bunch could.
"Everyone welcome our guest, Sophie Clearwood. I expect all of us to help her feel comfortable while she stays here. Alright, Let's dig in!" Vampire King bothered to stand up from his seat to make the announcement. He raised the wine glass for a toss. No chance that the red liquid was wine.
Guest? My foot! Did he forget his soldiers stabbed me to ship here? Has he lost his memory? Had to be.
I couldn't help but stare up at him. If stares could kill, he might be dead by now. He deserves it. I disagreed with his words as much as anyone in the room. Sounds ridiculous, but for once I agreed with vampires. I would rather be dead before being friendly with a vampire. Ewe!
As expected, one of them had enough self-respect to voice out against the King.
A model-like vampire with a head filled with brown curls, wearing a cute little red dress and applied blood-red lipstick, sitting on the other end of the table, slapped her palms on the table and aggressively pushed her chair back.
"What are we humans now? You are asking vampires to play nice to a wolf. Spare us, your highness. We don't have a heart as big as yours." The air changed inside the room.
Everyone in the room held their breath as they watched the badass vampire glare at their king in the eye.
What a bold move! If not for the consciousness of my situation, I might have clapped for her.
Curiosity peaked, and I glanced at the so-called King of the Vampires, wondering what he would do.
His face was calm, but his eyes were scaring the shit out of everyone in the room. The way his icy blue orbs turned darker when fall on the female vampire who dared to challenge his authority.
For instance, it seemed the same to me as for us werewolves. If anyone dared to challenge the alpha's authority, they would have to face the wrath.
No leader withstands disrespect from his subordinates. Democracy doesn't exist in the supernatural world, whether it's us wolves, filthy vampires, or sneaky witches.
Rules are rules you better play by them if you wanna survive.
Once the lively dining room turned into a silent zone as everyone forgot about the food and glued their eyes to the center of attention. Luckily, It wasn't me.
"Celia, I'm sure whatever it is will be solved with a talk. There's no need to create a scene for such a matter." Surprise to my ears, the words that came out of the Vampire King's mouth were completely out of wits, more like a request.
Called it my instincts, I did smell something weird lingering in the air. I couldn't stop wondering who this woman could be.
