Chapter 10 - Salt and Vinegar

Seventeen years old and it's a beautiful day, Ciaran and Michael decide to go to the pub for a few pints just after lunch. The pub they had gone to wasn't too cautious about who they serve, plus Ciaran had been going there for a couple of year now though he has only just started drinking there, it was his mums local.

Michael wanted to get a portion of chips before going home so we walked up the road to the kebab shop. With the chips cooked the main behind the counter asks if Michael if he wanted anything on them, Michael just asks for loads of salt and vinegar and when the man finishes put the vinegar on, Michael asks for more.

The man started refusing to put more vinegar on Michaels chips and this started a bit of a disagreement between the two of them, why the man would not give him any more vinegar but Michael loves his vinegar, to the point where he would drink it straight from the bottom and if the man thinks Michael is leaving without either more or an argument he is foolish, we ended up being barred from the kebab shop.

Ciaran and Michael not to bothered about being barred happily walk the fifteen minutes home, Ciaran having plans to going back to the pub but with his mother next time and after ten minutes of being home, him and his mother are now on their way to the pub where they would spend the rest of the night.

Closing up time and Ciaran's mum had finished her drink, Ciaran had almost a whole pint and was in the middle of a conversation so while he was finishing up, his mother went to the kebab shop yeah the same one. Ciaran's phone rings and it's his mother asking him what he would like in his kebab, not understanding him properly Ciaran tells her he will be down them in a minute.

Walking in to the kabab and up to his mother Ciaran stated to tell her what he wanted and as he was stood there six men came and surround him and his mother, Ciaran started to get defensive and when the blokes started to try and grab Ciaran and drag him out of the shop one of them hit his mother in the process.

Ciaran started to go mad, he hits the two men that had dragged him outside the rest had gone inside and just as he gets to the shop door his mother is coming out, back in to an argument and now Ciaran is really angry so when the police turned up, he is shouting and acting aggressively. It doesn't take the police long to find something to arrest Ciaran for.

The police start to caution Ciaran for three counts of assault but he had only hit two of them and when Ciaran questioned it, they told him he one of the counts of assault was against his mum, this set Ciaran off even worse.

Ciaran's mum had already called his brother Michael at the start of the argument with the guys in the kebab shop, so when the police had been in the middle of arresting Ciaran and he had also been arrested for further charges for public order offences and several counts of criminal damage of the police cars and van.

Michael walking up to the pile of officers on top of Ciaran, he is asking them what they are doing, why they are arresting him but Michael being Michael, it didn't come without a load of abuse and swearing. Both Michael and Ciaran are in the back of the police van.

Driving down the road and Michael is calm enough but Ciaran, he as really lost his head, with drinking all dad and now this he is hell bent on murder, he is shouting and throwing threats at the police, shouting at Michael asking him what the saying that they always use and when Michael refuse to tell him Ciaran started headbutting him.

Michael had told him the saying and was shouting it at them, Tiocfaidh Ar La he had also been shouting that he was going to blow the police station up with a bazooka. Ciaran being so drunk passed out in the cell as soon as he got put in there and not waking up the next morning.

Hearing the load rattle of the keys just outside his door, Ciaran wakes up and then the door opens and the officer on the other side tells him to get his shoes on, the transfer bus is here to take him to court, it wasn't until court that he knew all the charges he was up against.

Stood in the court room Michael to my right and our solicitors stood in front of us, the prosecutions wanting to remand Ciaran but not so much for the current charges, during the night they had added an additional charge under the terrorist act and it was that, that saved me, they had already booked the court hearing before adding the charge and when it came to the court case, they didn't have the file ready.

After the court hearing was opened the prosecution explained everything, the magistrate dismissed all charges against Ciaran and for Michaels abusive behaviour, he got a small fine and a top up on his current probation order. Walking out of the court house Ciaran turns to Michael and said that got him back for the moped incident the year before.

The year before Michael had turned up at Ciaran's house at gone two in the early hours, against his mother he had let him stay. The next morning Michael asked if he could help his friend fix his moped, although Ciaran wasn't a mechanic he agreed to help as he knows a thing or two.

They go and meet one friend on the way and then to meet his other friend at the top of his road. They all start walking the few doors up to his friend's house and because Ciaran was on a driving ban, he didn't want to work on the bike on the side of the road. Sending one of the boys to get some screwdrivers Ciaran then pushes the moped in to a wooded area, it had not even been a minute since he sent the person to get the screwdrivers before they had got back, not with the screwdrivers but running and shouting they have seen us, the police are coming.

Ciaran pushes the moped further into the wooded area and finding a nice spot, he put the handlebar lock on taking the key, he had told his brother to follow him but he looks around he cannot see him, he goes back to get his brother before the police arrive and when he gets back to him they had already been caught by the police.

Walking towards them Ciaran brushes past a tree and using it for cover so that he is not seen dropping the key. The police had informed everyone that they are bringing a dog to look around for the moped and because one of the boys had pot on them, before they had been caught by the police, they had dropped it on the ground and stood it in the mud right by where they had stood.

The police had noticed the boys getting anxious at the sound of a search dog so they offered to move us all while they do the search, everyone agreed other than myself because while they might find the stuff, they would be able to arrest anyone with not being able to prove whose it is and now that they moved us closer to where I put the moped, it didn't take the police to find it and we all got arrested.

I had been charged with handling stolen goods and Michael had all charges against him dropped. It turns out that they had stolen the key in a distraction burglary the night before, they had attempted to steal the moped without the key before that night and was unable to, when they tried, they caused damage and it was that, that they wanted me to repair.
