Chereads / Realm of Numen's Garden / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

"Are you not worried you may break that one eventually?" One of the spectators slowly walked up to Numen and asked curiously. He had been coming to watch with Numen for the past few years now and had seen the man named Tyson get pulled in every year since he had first started spectating the event with Numen. Every year some how the man would manage to win his way out of the game and take many lives with his own dual sided blade.

"No, that one is unique.. It's his tenth time in my Garden and yet he is as brutal as he is every year." Numen said as he watched the man swinging his weapon around with such talent and elegance it was almost as though he was not killing but making art with his movements. Even as the blood of his victims splattered his motions never wavers in the slightest. His hair was long and black while it slowly faded down into a red at it's ends. His clothes were black and he kept a demonic black and red mask on his face that made it impossible to see what the actual man's face looked like. It gave him such an air of mystery that it would peak anyone's attention once they saw him and how talented he was.

"Ten years straight is it? Maybe this year some one will knock him out of the game for good. It's a wonder he has any sanity left at this point if you've pulled him in ten years in a row now." The spectator thought curiously as he scratched his chin while watching the show below them. With every swing of Tyson's blade lives were going down like he was squashing ants.

"Oh? How much do you want to bet he makes it to the last ten?" Without even looking at Numen one could hear the smirk in his voice as he spoke those words. It was like he had complete faith in the fact that Tyson would be one of the top ten to survive until the very end of the battle. If it was ten years ago Numen himself would never believe that Tyson would turn out to become such a talented survivor in his garden.

When he first came into the garden ten years ago he was nothing but an innocent child afraid of everything but he had evolved over the years into something else entirely and even came to dress his wardrobe for the event each year. It was not so that he could support the battle of Numen's Garden, but simply that by dressing as a demon when he fought in the garden he personally had felt it kept his sanity a little clearer when it was all done and he went back to his real life back home. The only person among Numen's Garden who knew the truth and even knew what he looked like under that mask was the deity Numen himself. Tyson was the only fighter among the garden who had ever lasted ten rounds of Numen's Garden.

"A bet against Numen in his Garden.. as nice as that sounds I do not want to risk such a thing." He laughed at the very thought of going against Numen inside of his own personal space.

"Hm? It seems as though Tyson is on the move and heading in the direction those two ran earlier.. One of them seemed a bit disappointing... but the other one.. Fae was it? He might be a bit interesting." Numen thought out loud as he watched Tyson's figure running from the battle field into the wilderness of the mountains.

"Others went that way and only that one caught your eye?" The spectator was not really interested in Fae or Chi at all; he simply wanted to make conversation with Numen about the fact that he only picked out Fae from the direction Tyson was heading.

"The others are irrelevant.. trash is trash to the bitter end after all." Numen scoffed at the thought of looking at the others as anything more then trash. When it came to catching his eye he did not care much for those who seemed weak and the man Chi that Fae had taken to seemed to look as though he was nothing special. He actually expected Chi to die on the field from the start but to his surprise he had not expected that Fae would move threw the crowd and form a bond with the man.

Numen was aware of the fact that Fae had instantly formed feelings for the weak looking man, Chi. It was not the first time he had seen someone form such a bond in his Garden, but in the end that bond had always caused the downfall of both involved. When someone gets too close to another in battle it can become a double ended blade that could cause one or even both of them to die in the end. There was no way he could guarantee of course that they would not manage to get through it some how in the end but he was not going to place his bets on a horse that looked weak.

"The only thing we can do from here on is watch and see who makes it. What choices they make from here until the end is there own to make as long as they narrow it down I do not care what becomes of any of them. Life is full of choices and in my, Numen's, Garden the choices they make decides their fate to the very end." He spoke as both of their figures began to blur and fade into the air like smoke until nothing was left of them there to see.

The only sound that was left after they were gone was the sounds of screams filling the distance. Fate was something that could never be outrun but the thing about fate was that even gods could not change such a thing. Immortal or mortal all things held its own fate to the end and Numen was aware of such facts. He simply desired to see what this years batch of lives he chose to observe would show him. Would ones fate shift beyond his imagination or would it all be a usual game that left him without surprises.. It was something only time would tell.
