Chapter 38 - True strength

Azriel laughed at Benjamin's threat. "And what are you going to do?" Azriel asked mockingly. Benjamin picked up Broken War.

The sword was glowing with black energy. "I might not be as strong as my father," Benjamin said, crouching down into a squatting position.

"But anyone who hurts those who are precises to me..." Benjamin continued, looking up at Azriel. A black crown formed around Benjamin's head. His eyes glowed black with the energy of death itself.

"Is gonna pay!!!" Benjamin yelled. He rushed at Azriel in the blink of an eye.

Benjamin slashed Azriel across the chest with Broken war. The sword left a black mark on his chest. Azriel was blasted backward.

Azriel dragged his hands across the ground to slow his movement. Benjamin didn't let him land, however, rushing up to him. "Cross slash," Benjamin said. Benjamin slashed 5 times once again, sealing Azriel in place.

Azriel tried to throw a punch with his energy fist. Benjamin raised his own fist. Instantaneously the shadows formed a hand around his hand that caught the punch.

Benjamin raised Azriel up and slammed him into the ground. Rocks flew up around them. Azriel shot several balls of energy at Benjamin.

Benjamin leaned to the side to avoid them. Azriel used the distraction to get up and attempt to flee. Benjamin was too fast for this, however.

"Backslash!" Benjamin yelled. Broken War sliced Azriel in the back. Despite the protection that his energy armor was giving him, Azriel was hit in the back by the blade.

Azriel went flying forward. "How the heck did I feel that?" Azriel screeched. Azriel then took a closer look at his energy armor. The black marks were eating away at his armor.

"It's called wither," Benjamin said as he slowly walked towards him. Azriel got up. "How the heck are you beating me?" Azriel asked, confused. "I was whooping you and your friend's asses a little bit ago." "Times change, I guess," Benjamin replied, shrugging.

Azriel charged his energy. "You won't survive this," Azriel said. "Quasar!!!" he shouted. A black orb appeared in front of him. Several beams of energy appeared and fired towards Corey and Benjamin.

The beams approached Benjamin and Corey at lightning speed. Benjamin raised his sword and slashed downward. A massive wave of shadow cut through the beams of energy like they were nothing. The beams of energy fizzled into nothingness.

Azriel stood there with a shocked expression. He hadn't even gotten to use his strongest attack. His energy armor was beginning to fade away.

"There's no way I'm losing to you!!!" Azriel yelled. Azriel dashed towards Benjamin at an extremely high speed. Azriel made one more energy fist and tried to hit Benjamin.

Benjamin jumped over him "Reaper's edge," Benjamin said. Six slashes hit Azriel in the chest and stomach area. He spat up blood and clutched the area as it began to disintegrate into black ash.

Azriel covered the area in energy to stop the disintegrating of his body. Benjamin landed on the ground and yelled, "I'll finish with this," Benjamin plunged his sword into the ground.

The asteroid rumbled until it shattered into pieces, revealing a massive shadow monster. "Corey gets behind me!!!" Benjamin yelled.

Corey immediately teleported behind Benjamin. Benjamin landed on the shadows back and looked around until he saw Azriel floating in the debris field.

"Death's scream," Benjamin said, the crown on his head glistening black. The monster opened its mouth and charged a massive ball of black energy.

With a fearsome roar, the monster fired a beam of black energy from its mouth. The beam hit Azriel head-on. Azriel began to scream in pain as his body was vaporized into nothingness.

How could I lose to this brat? Azriel's last fleeting thought was full of regret and anguish until he no longer felt anything. The shadow monster closed its mouth.

Nothing remained of Azriel. Benjamin fell to his knees as the crown vanished from around his head.

Corey knelt beside Benjamin and put his hand on his shoulder. "What the heck was that?" Corey asked Benjamin, scratching the back of his head with his free arm.

"I don't know," Benjamin said truthfully. The shadow monster slowly began to vanish. Corey helped Benjamin up and they jumped to an adjacent asteroid.

Benjamin sat down and looked at the destruction he had caused. "What are you going to call that new monster?" Corey asked. Benjamin paused.

He scratched his chin as he thought about what he would call his newest soldier. "Kaisel," Benjamin finally replied, smiling slightly.

"I like it," Corey said, chuckling. "Are you going to raise Azriel?" Corey asked, looking over at Benjamin. "Oh man you're right," Benjamin replied.

Benjamin jumped off the asteroid to the pace where Azriel had died. Dammit, there's nobody, Benjamin thought upon reaching the spot where Azriel should have been

. "Curse, too bad," Corey said upon reaching Benjamin. "How long before I have to return?" Benjamin asked. "You have about two minutes," Corey said, checking his watch. The face was cracked, and Benjamin was surprised it still worked.

"Go find the others and try to help them," Benjamin instructed Corey. "How the heck am I supposed to find them?" Corey asked, throwing up his hands.

"Isaiah teleported us far away from each other." Benjamin paused at this. He really didn't have any idea how to find the others. "Can't you use any reflective surfaces on them to find their location?" Benjamin asked. "I can try," Corey replied.

"I can't guarantee that will work though. Most of the reflective stuff they had on them has been shattered or lost." Benjamin began to fracture and ripple. It seemed almost like he was turning into a mirror. "Figure it out," Benjamin said urgently.

Corey began to vanish from Benjamin's view as he was teleported back to the library. The last thing Benjamin saw was Corey watching him disappear with a worried expression on his face. Benjamin reappeared in the library shortly after.

Benjamin looked around at the all too familiar books, chairs, and fire. "Here we go again," Benjamin sighed.
