Mai Quing was a widower with no child. She inherited a huge perfume formula business from her husband used it to establish the largest 'Mai Fragrance' company in the city.
She had just one son who she had adopted from the orphanage to pass down her inheritance.
The woman was sure everyone had learnt of her party and after-event auction and wanted to ensure that her party- as usual- would be top notch and be the talk of the city for many weeks.
She had already booked the best interior decorators she could find and had chosen the finest hall in her huge mansion for the party venue.
The auction would be in another one of her halls upstairs which would house the special artifacts.
She just needed to hire caterers who would prepare a lavish amount of mouth-salivating food for her guests, but everyone she called seemed to be booked for an occasion or couldn't make it.
As she sat there in the living room, pondering over her next actions towards the last to-do-list for her party, a maid walked in and bowed.
"Madam, you have an unannounced visitor."
Curious, she brushed back her dark brown hair and relaxed into her seat.
"Did he or... she disclose the name?"
"He said he would, once he's sure he meets you."
"Then let him in."
After a minute, someone came into the room and she had her eyes up, ready to receive her guest but she had the clang of a wheel chair and lowered her eyes to a much lower level to see a man with thick black hair and misty blue eyes staring at her while wheeling his chair into the living room.
She got up and snapped her fingers like she was trying to remember something.
"Zhang Hien? Hien? Zhang Hien. Am I correct?" She asked sarcastically.
"You're not wrong." He replied.
She gestured the maid to leave them and settled on her two seater sofa with an inquisive gaze.
"It's such an unusual visit from you, don't you think so?"
"Why is it so unusual to visit my own aunt, Eh?" He tried his boyish grin he usually gave her when she used to visit back then when he was little.
Mai Quing only scoffed and looked away.
"I seized to be your aunt the day that mother of yours forced me to severe ties with your father when he married her."
Zhang Hien's face fell. So she hadn't forgiven them since then? The last time he had seen her was at the hospital when he had recently gotten into an accident and had lost the use of legs.
She had wanted to offer financial support but Zhang Huan, his mother, had done something to her which made her suddenly distance herself from the family.
She had earlier warned her brother, Zhang Wang about getting married to Zhang Huan, but the man had refused her warnings and had gotten married to the 'witch'.
After that, she stopped seeing herself as a Zhang, especially when she got married into the Mai's family. This happened quite early, so only a few people knew about Mai Quing's relationship with Mr. Zhang
Even the Jiangs didn't know about this.
When Mai Quing tuned to see Zhang Hien's sad face, her heart swelled in pain. This was her favorite nephew. She couldn't bear to see him look pitiful.
Rolling her eyes, she said,
"Do you have anything to say worth listening to. Why have you come here after all?"
"It's about my wife, Jiang Meiying." He quickly said, glancing up meekly.
"Jiang Meiying?" She wrinkled her nose at the thought of her. She had never heard of a more useless woman for a wife. It's as if the Zhang's family were destined to be ruined by their wives.
Who didn't know Jiang Meiying? She was currently in the same class with her younger sister and was just about as nonchalant as her life as she was to her body.
The last time she saw the girl, she almost fell backwards In shock. It was so hard to believe that young woman sprouting three chins was only 18 years and she kept eating like it was the end of the world tomorrow?
Had Zhang Hien come to beg her for money to feed his wife?
"What about her?" She scornfully asked, but she was not expecting the answer she got.
"She wants to work as a food caterer at your party."
She snapped her head towards him.
"Have you come here to joke around, Zhang Hien?"
"No...Aunt...I..."
"Oh Please. Do you know how much I'm willing to pay any caterer to cook sumptuous meals for my guests? Do you know how huge my party is going to be, and the number of important guests coming? And you're asking me to entrust the most important task of my party to someone who eats anything in sight? I'm surprised she hasn't eaten you yet."
"Aunt!" Zhang Hien suddenly yelled in an audible loud voice, and she froze on hearing his cold voice, seeing seriousness and something unfathomable in his eyes for the first time.
"You will not speak about my wife like that to me..."
"!"
Was she dreaming?
"I can assure you that she's well aware of her dexterity and cuisine skills and will not disappoint you..."
She managed to regain her composure before clearing her throat.
"And If she does?" She asks daringly
"You can sue us." Zhang Hien replied confidently.
