There was complete silence in the room for such a long time that he took off his blindfold and flinched on seeing her body lying sprawled on the floor.
He tensed up and rolled towards her body, doing the first thing that came to mind. He placed his two fingers horizontally against her pulse and sighed out loud when her heart beat evenly and he noticed her chest heaving up and down very slowly as she slept.
He just sat there and watched her because he knew he couldn't carry her up the bed. Why had she suddenly fainted? Why had her hand suddenly turned warm against his legs and... why did It feel like his dead, immobile legs actually felt alive inside. He had so many questions to ask her, but decided it will be absurd waking her up just to ask questions when she was this visibly tired.
He could only do the possible and drape her body with a blanket lying on the bed and rolled down to get some water for her when she woke up.
He knew Jiang Meiying would be angry when she realized he had gone downstairs, but he wanted to take the risk and get her some water to ease her deranged body system when she woke up.
When he arrived in the kitchen, the maids were preparing dinner and one of them offered to get him the water. No one even dared to look at him.
They didn't want to offend the Scary Young Miss's Husband!
When she handed the jug to Zhang Hien, he held it and frowned slightly before saying innocently.
"This water is very warm. I needed cold water."
The maid almost bowed to the ground as she apologized.
"Forgive me, Young Master!"
Zhang Hien's eyes widened and he leaned back in his chair in shock.
He noticed the others looking at him with plea in their eyes.
"Please don't tell on Young Miss. She... She will make me go mute like Mrs. Jiangs o...or she'll kill me!"
Zhang Hien was in shock and didn't even know how to react for a few seconds. He was not used to people submitting to him like this and he wasn't comfortable.
And what was that about Jiang Meiying making her step-mother go mute? There had to be another explanation. Did they all believe in a stupid magic theory?
Sighing, he just said,
"Don't worry. I'll get the water myself."
"Thank you! Thank you!"
"And... please stop kneeling before me like that." He mumbled, uncomfortable.
Mr. Jiang returned home a frustrated and angry man. He flung his briefcase to the living room two seater sofa on getting inside and sat down.
He beckoned to a maid who was already setting the dinning table.
"Bring me my food here."
The maid bowed and he sighed, leaning back against the chair to rub his fingers over the bridge of his nose.
Soon, all the maids, the guards and workers would leave when he would be unable to pay them their monthly payment.
He had gone to dine with the Zhang family, confident that since he was in close ties with them, he would get some money to revive his dying business, but he was in shock, listening to Zhang Wei's made up story about his business going bankrupt because someone had hacked into their school banking system and had wiped the entire place clean of all the money.
How was that possible?! Gold Star entertainment college had the best security system when it came to anything, including their physical tools and equipments and more, especially things like money.
He didn't want to believe him, but didn't want to pester him further since he had pride. This meant that they were on the same boat. This was why he had come to sell the Xiao Vikings Island with him. He didn't want to do a business collaboration with him because he wanted to but because he was broke and ruined and his company was crumbling to the ground too!
Zhang Huan for some reason was unable to come down to dinner because she was terribly 'ill' and he had sent his condolences before returning back home reluctantly, rethinking about Jiang Ming getting married into this family.
The last thing he could ever do was borrow or beg money from anyone else. They would laugh at his back and he would loose face to all the people he had flaunted his money on, to all the workers in his office who he had made to feel lowly because of his money.
The only person who he could turn to for help was Jiang Meiying.
But convincing her to even sign an atom of her rightfully inherited property into his name was like forcing a dog to lay an egg.
He rubbed his chin thoughtfully and was in so much thought that he didn't realize when the maid dropped his tray of food before him, poured some water into a cup and left.
Soon, Jiang Chu came downstairs for dinner while Jiang Ming was preparing in her room to come downstairs as well.
The woman after all available means to force herself to talk still remained miserable and mute and was visibly angry and frustrated, not aware of the bad news that was coming at her from her husband.
Once she saw her husband was seated in the living room having dinner with a lost look in his eyes, she knew something was wrong.
It was a waste of time talking to him so she just there on the sofa and stared blankly at her fingers. The maid in the dinning concluded that the woman probably wanted to have her dinner in the living room as well and went in to get a tray.
Mr. Jiang looked up from his meal and frowned at his wife from the corner of his eyes He looked back down at his food and waited for her to speak, but the only thing he heard was the sound of people In the television as she changed the channel.
With food In his mouth, he cleaned his lips and threw the napkin at her.
"I come back after many tiring hours at work and you don't even acknowledge my prescence?! Are you forgetting I'm your husband?!"
