Chapter 34 - I'll Be Careful Next Time

Jiang Ming came flying downstairs at the sound of her father's angry voice. She stopped at the last step of the stairs and saw her mother lift her head to say something but lower her head to the ground painfully.

Mr. Jiang looked like he was just about to flip his tray of food to the ground. He was already in a bad mood from the dinner meeting he was returning from.

"Daddy!" She ran to the living room and forced a smile. "You're ... home..."

The man just snorted and bent to eat, ignoring the two. Jiang Ming and Jiang Chu exchanged glances as the maid came in time to drop Jiang Chu's tray Infront of her.

As Jiang Ming looked away, she decided to sit next to her father and silently ordered the maid to bring her dinner down to the living room as well.

As she sat next to her father, she leaned over and refilled her father's cup with an innocent smile.

Mr. Jiang's heart melted at her smile and he could not stay angry with her forever. She had done nothing wrong but why was his wife ignoring him?

Remembering someone, his face turned sour before he gently asked Jiang Ming.

"Where is Jiang Meiying?"

"I think she's upstairs father."

"Have she had dinner with her crippled husband." He asked with his face turning sour again.

"Not yet but I suppose they will come down to eat any moment from now."

The man nodded contently and the maid came in time to drop Jiang Ming's food before he beckoned to her.

"Go upstairs and inform Jiang Meiying that she and her husband are needed right now in the living room."

The maid bowed slightly and went upstairs.

Jiang Chu's head rose from where she sat, eating. But when her eyes met with Jiang Tao's, she looked down immediately, filling her mouth with food.

The man just glared at her in anger and resumed eating, not in the least interested to talk to her again.

Jiang Ming was curious as to why he demanded for their prescence so suddenly, but since she would be sitting next to him, she would get a first class seat to witness what would happen.

Zhang Hien was seated next to the figure on the floor, unmoving, save for his heart which was pounding hard against his rib cage. She hadn't moved a single inch and he wasn't sure she was JUST unconscious as he had thought.

For the nth time, he brought his hand down to the nostrils and felt her calm soft breath against his knuckles. Before he rose up to sit straight, he fondly brushed a stray strand of hair off her forehead and took notice of the scar on her forehead.

Though it didn't bother him as much as it bothered people, he knew she would feel it was bothersome carrying such a scar around especially on her forehead for everyone to see.

Suddenly Jiang Meiying's eyes slowly opened and his heart skipped a beat as he rolled back on his wheelchair, giving her some space to sit up.

It took a while for her to get familiar with her surroundings before she finally got up, holding onto her head with one hand while the other was face-palmed on the ground to support her weight.

"Ugh... What happened?"

Zhang Hien rolled forward and grabbed onto her arm and she turned. Their eyes locked and her heart skipped a beat when saw a fiery look in his eyes coupled with relief and worry.

"Jiang Meiying," he said, his grip on her tightening. "Don't you scare me like that again, ever," her eyes widened and she felt her heartbeat quicken. "Please." he finally adds and sighed.

"You almost scared me to death."

"I won't. I promise." She drowsily said still looking at him even when he shyly turned away from her.

"Have this." He meekly poured some water into a cup for her and he handed it over to his wife who was still seated on the floor with her back against the bed to support her weak body.

She obediently took the cup and tilted it up, downing the entire thing before handing it back, wiping her mouth clean with the back of her hand.

As he returned the cup, he asked, not wanting to meet her eyes as he did.

"What did you do to me?"

Jiang Meiying tried to act oblivious.

"What do you mean?"

He turned to her.

"You said I should trust you... I know I should but... you have to tell me what's going on." He narrowed his eyes at her when he turned. "Are you trying to heal my legs?"

"What If I said yes?" She raised a brow.

"Then I might have some questions as to how you can."

"What about trusting me?"

"I want to... " He bit his lip. There was just something he's been feeling was very off about Jiang Meiying days ago and now, in her prescence, It was like there was a strong powerful aura emanating from her. She wasn't normal and he knew it. "...But If you're going to heal my legs, I have the rights to know how you suddenly knew how to."

"I just want to help you, Zhang Hien." She simply replied, looking ahead while he stared at her profile.

"I really don't know what you're up to, but if killing yourself means healing me then I rather you stop. I almost thought you died. There are some things you can't just force yourself to do, Jiang Meiying."

Her heart flipped in that funny way when she noted the concern hidden behind his sternly put words.

But she stood up with an indifferent look on her face.

"I'll be careful next time," She knew she almost died if the system hadn't warned her in time. "But I'm not going to stop trying."

She made to head for the bathroom when someone knocked and carefully entered when she was asked to by Jiang Meiying.

"Master Jiang wants to see you, Young Miss." She meekly said and also directed her gaze to Zhang Hien.

"Why?" Jiang Meiying looked irritated when the thought of meeting her father crossed her mind. She was tired and needed to regain her energy.

The maid shook her head.

"I don't know Young Miss."

Jiang Meiying waved her hand to the door and the Maid left.

"I'll come with you." Zhang Hien said, already wheeling to stay behind her when she didn't move from her spot, her eyes still on the door where the maid had left through

Jiang Meiying turned, her chins on her shoulders as she smirked evilly at Zhang Hien, an unfathomable glint in her eyes.

"Who said we're going?"
