A loud sound boomed like a thunderstorm in the classroom a minute after the teacher for the first period lesson had left.
Everyone turned to see Jiang Meiying standing at the teacher's table with her huge hand placed on a brown envelope which she had slammed onto the table to get everyone's attention when it looked they weren't going to pay attention to her even after she had climbed onto the leveled platform for the teacher to move about.
People like Jiang Ming and her friends were either chatting and giggling about something pointless or people like Da Xia and her snobbish wannabe-all-perfect group were studying their books with a serious look on their faces.
The others had either formed their own clique or group to talk or study, and some were sleeping. These were the types that didn't care whether they failed the college entrance exam or not and either wanted to venture into a business since they were from wealthy families or were just too lazy to read and were relying on reading some days before the exam.
But once that resounding sound of the thick envelope hitting onto the table noisily boomed like a thunderstorm in the entire classroom, everyone turned to the teacher's desk.
"Jiang Meiying, if you're going to cause any more trouble, Teacher Lee will not be happy to hear it when she comes in to teach us." One of Da Xia's friends stood up like a perfect-lady she was, her hands clasped Infront of her as she said.
"I doubt Teacher Lee would be teaching us today... that's the more reason why I am standing here. Now, would you let me say what I have to say. The second period is going to start soon."
Speechless, the girl sat back, and like the rest of the bewildered but annoyed students, she reluctantly shushed to listen to her.
"Teacher Lee is currently in the hospital for personal reasons of which she hadn't disclosed to me, but before classes today she had given me this." She inclined her head to the envelope which everyone turned to see for the first time that day; Li Fu and Hai Bo being an exception. "To share to the entire class during her lesson time."
"What is that?" A boy calmly asked. He was sitting at the back and had a nonchalant look in his face like the others.
"She's supposed to conduct a test today but she put me in charge of doing it since she's going to be absent."
Everyone stared at her in disbelief before Da Xia rose up with a slight suspicious look in her eyes.
"Why would Teacher Lee leave someone like you in charge of something as important as invigilating a cumulative test for an entire class?"
"Because I'm not you." She calmly retorted and everyone gasped at her words. They turned to Da Xia who was considered little-miss-perfect, and always looked down on Nora from day one and still did because of her stature and brain capacity.
"Incase your little brain can't comprehend my position in this class, I will remind you," She sat up like a lady poised in a ball to welcome her guests into her soiree. "I am the president of Science Class B of this high school!"
"And." Jiang Meiying cut in sharply with that annoying smug, calm look on her face with a twinkle of mockery and amusement in her eyes. "...I was here in school before our 'punctual President' arrived and was deemed legal enough to be in charge of the test since I am a student of this class AS WELL."
"I won't take this test. Not unless I'm in charge. You must have already solved the answers into your test booklet just like you cheated on the math test yesterday."
The class broke into an uproar as everyone (Except Li Fu and Hai Bo) supported the idea of their class president conducting the test. Jiang Ming and her friends didn't like the wannabe-all-perfect group just like Da Xia and her group didn't like them as well, due to envy, but they silently supported Da Xia over Jiang Ming.
The uproar died down as soon as Jiang Meiying slammed her hand against the envelope, a loud noise reverberating in the entire classroom, causing everyone's attention to be on her again. This time, they had apprehensive and angry look in their eyes like they wanted to shred her in pieces.
"If you're so sure I cheated in that math test, why did you give me five dollars like the rest of the students?" Da Xia's eyes darted to and fro in speechlessness and contempt as everyone's curious gaze was on her this time. "Were you perhaps... scared of me?"
"No! Of course not!" Da Xia lost her compusure for a second there as she snapped at her, holding onto the edge of her locker so tightly that her knuckles turned white. But she gritted her teeth when she realized she had no other thing to say and just looked like a fool before the others.
"Listen everyone." Jiang Meiying calmly said as she showed everyone the envelope which was sealed with a cello tape, and visibly looked untampered. "As you can all see here, this envelope is just as untouched as Teacher Lee had given it to me." She lowered it and before them began to open up the envelope with a scissors on the desk to pull out the test sheets.
She glanced up at them, not meeting anyone in the eyes but facing the class directly with a nonchalant look on her face.
"If you still don't believe me like Da Xia,, you can leave the class with her and forget about writing this test."
