The sun was rising, but Aeryn was still asleep. She, who'd not been tired at all the day before, now slept as peacefully as if she were unconscious.
But that didn't last long, because Yashito entered the room and called out, "It's morning already, get up."
Aeryn, who'd been dreaming God knows what a moment ago, woke up so suddenly that she fell out of bed.
"Wh-what happened? Who's attacking us?" she said, scratching her head.
"No one is attacking us. It's time for you to get up. Come on, we've got a lot of work to do."
"Eeeh?"
So Aeryn, having no other choice, followed Yashito's instructions and got ready to leave the house after having breakfast first.
They left the house and went to the side of the road in front of the house. Yashito again called a cab to pick them up.
"Why don't you have a car like the others?" Aeryn asked , having learned the meaning of the word car only the day before and wanting to use it in a sentence.
"Because I don't want one. I've to pay taxes for it, and I'm not the type who likes to waste money."
Then the cab arrived and Yashito ordered the driver to take them to the city centre.
Aeryn was eager to see what exactly a hunter was, but she'd to wait a bit first because Yashito told her that she needed to buy new clothes. Aeryn refused at first, not seeing the reason for buying new clothes, but after Yashito's explanation, she understood that her clothes weren't appropriate for this era.
It took them fifteen minutes to get from Yashito's house to the city centre, and of course, as soon as they got out of the cab, Aeryn started asking questions about everything she saw in front of her. But this time Yashito answered her without getting the least bit upset about it. He'd probably already gotten used to this situation.
She followed him into a clothing shop and looked around to see what kind of clothes people were wearing at that time.
After a while, she saw Yashito coming towards her, holding a lot of clothes in his arms.
"Are these all for me?" She said hesitantly.
"Yes, we'll have to see which look suits you best."
"O-okay?"
She went into the dressing room and got ready to try on all these clothes.
It took them a while to find the perfect combination for Aeryn, because Yashito was too picky when it came to clothes. Even though he was the one picking them out, he acted like it was the worst thing he'd seen in his entire life when a combination wasn't to his liking.
After a while, Aeryn got tired of trying on clothes and she sped up the pace at which she tried them on. But fortunately for her, Yashito finally decided on one garment.
It was a white t-shirt with some blue stripes in the middle, a black skirt and a white jacket with orange stripes on the sleeves.
Aeryn began to wonder why he was doing all this for her. He said he didn't like to waste money, but he was willing to buy her clothes, plus the juice she'd ordered the day before. If he's one of the top twenty in the country, can't he just solve the case himself? Unless he can't because he needs a cultivator. All these thoughts were going through Aeryn's mind and she didn't notice that Yashito had already paid for the clothes and was waiting for her outside.
As soon as she was done with her thoughts and saw that she was standing alone in the middle of the shop, she rushed outside to meet Yashito.
"Th-thank you for the clothes." She said with a slightly embarrassed tone.
"Oh, you don't need to thank me... Anyway, follow me."
"Okay."
As they walked, Aeryn had another question for him that was going through her mind at that moment.
"You said you were ranked 20th in the city, right?"
"Yes, but not in the city, it's in the whole country."
"I see, so how come no one knows you? I imagine you should be famous, so why is no one interested in you?"
"It's because they don't know who I'm. I prefer to keep my professional life separate from my personal life."
"I see."
After some time, Yashito stopped in front of a tall black building.
He turned his head to her and said, "This is a guild. This is where you'll register as a hunter."
"Um, what's a guild?"
"It's a kind of organisation you join to earn money and get the proper guidance and support to become stronger."
"Oh, that sounds interesting. Let's register then."
Yashito smiled slightly and opened the door in front of him.
They were in a large, white-painted room with a fountain in the centre, two staircases, one on the right and one on the left, and the reception desk behind the fountain and between the two staircases.
Yashito stepped closer and the receptionist said, "Mr. Ichijo, what can I do for you?"
"I'd like to register this girl here as a hunter." He said, pointing to Aeryn.
"Could you tell me your full name?" The receptionist asked her.
"My name is Toriko Aeryn."
"Hmm, she's not in the city's database."
"Ah yes, her condition is a bit complicated. Let's just leave that behind us." Yashito said.
"Ah, I'm going to get into trouble again. Anyway, show me your stats."
"Um, how do I do that?"
"Just open your system window so I can see them."
"I... don't have a system."
"What?" Both Yashito and the receptionist said at the same time.
"Are you sure you don't have something like that?" Yashito said and a small blue rectangle appeared in front of him with some words written on it.
"Nope, it's the first time I've seen something like that."
"Oh, I can't believe what's happening right now." Yashito said while holding his head.
"Aah, I can sign her, but you will have to take care of her in the beginning."
"Really? Thanks."
"Yeah, yeah, let's leave that for now. You two follow me. Since you don't have a system, we'll have to do the evaluation the old way."
She led them into a large white room with only a strange machine in the middle, held in that position by a lot of steel cables and rods.
"Come on, hit the machine in the bag that's in the middle. Don't worry, it can't break, so use all your strength."
"Alright."
Aeryn hurried to hit the bag, but she didn't manage to activate her Qi, so she hurt her hand and shook in pain.
When Yashito saw this, he couldn't help but laugh, which Aeryn noticed immediately.
"Are you sure you want to make her a hunter?" she whispered to Yashito.
"Don't worry, I got it."
"Aeryn, think of the bag as someone you want to beat."
"Alright." She said and got ready to hit it another time.
After seeing her first performance, the receptionist wasn't waiting for anything better, but Yashito was ready for what was to follow.
Aeryn closed her eyes and followed Yashito's instructions. She imagined that the bag had Yashito's face.
Suddenly, her left punch began to glow with a golden colour. Yashito, who'd already seen how blinding this light could be, took a pair of sunglasses out of his pocket and put them on.
Aeryn opened her eyes, rushed toward the bag, and struck.
The whole machine dislodged from its position and flew into the wall from behind, tearing a hole in it.
The receptionist was left open-mouthed, unable to utter a single word.
"Um, I think I broke it." Aeryn said with a worried tone.
She was afraid that they'd would make her pay for the damage even though she had no money.
"Oh, don't worry about it. It was already an outdated model." Yashito said with a smile.
"Right Ciri?" He said, looking at the receptionist."
"Y-yea , those things are too easily destroyed these days."
They then left the room and went to the first place they had seen when they entered the building. Aeryn was glad she didn't have to pay anything after smashing the machine.
After a while Ciri came back and gave Aeryn a card.
"This is your hunter card. Don't ever lose it." She said to Aeryn.
Aeryn took the card in her hand and examined it thoroughly.
[Toriko Aeryn
[Profession: Hunter
[Class: Cultivator
[Rank: A+
[Level: 1
Although Aeryn didn't know what half of those words meant, she was excited for some reason.
"Alright, now that you've officially become a hunter, you can finally help me. And pay the rent for staying at my house."
"Eh, h-how exactly am I supposed to do that?"
"You'll find out soon enough." Yashito said with a slight smile.
