Chapter 8 - The untold truth

Yashito and Alpha looked at Aeryn, who was trying with difficulty to hold the sword as it began to vibrate.

Aeryn no longer knew what was happening. She could feel her mother's presence emanating from that sword.

As soon as the sword started vibrating, Aeryn tried to hold it in a fixed position, because as she'd seen before, it could cut really good things such as the bed.

But after a while, the sword stopped vibrating and Aeryn slumped to the floor.

Yashito and Alpha rushed towards her worrying about her well-being. Alpha ran a diagnostic test on Aeryn, which concluded that she was fine and only sleeping because she was exhausted.

On the other hand, Aeryn wasn't sleeping at all. Instead, she found herself in a strange place that looked like a palace. Everything around her was dark because she was surrounded by a strange mist and her field of vision was limited. From a distance, she could hear some voices that seemed familiar.

She tried to figure out which direction the voices were coming from, but it was as if they were coming from all directions.

She looked around to better hear what the voices were saying, but she didn't understand the language.

She decided to walk forward, hoping to find something that could explain what she was experiencing.

Suddenly she saw a woman in front of her talking to a man. She was wearing a dress and had a ponytail, and the man was wearing a costume. Because of the fog, she couldn't see the colours or features well.

But when she suddenly saw the woman's face, she froze.

She only managed to mumble one word, "Mom?"

The woman slowly turned her head toward Aeryn. Blood flowed from her eyes and mouth, and her flesh began to melt. She raised her hand toward Aeryn, who was too shocked to even breathe. The woman laboriously began to walk slowly toward her as her flesh began to melt and blood began to flow from her veins, which were now visible.

Aeryn thought that this was the end of her. Since she could no longer move, she'd no choice but to wait for her death. The only thing her body was capable of was shaking like crazy at the sight of this woman.

When the woman got close enough to Aeryn, she touched her forehead with her skeletal finger and whispered something to her in a language Aeryn couldn't understand.

That was the last thing Aeryn saw before she woke up startled and drenched in sweat.

Yashito, who'd been sitting in a chair on the left side of the bed and had fallen asleep, suddenly woke up to Aeryn's gasping.

"What happened? Aeryn, are y'all right?" he asked.

"I... I was in a place... there was fog... and some voices... I didn't understand what they were saying... My mother... a monster..." Aeryn said, trying to remember everything she'd seen.

Yashito hugged her to reassure her and said, "Don't worry, don't worry, everything is fine now. You're safe.

"I...I..."

"Shh, don't talk. Just relax for now and when you feel better, come to the living room." Yashito said, leaving Aeryn alone to calm down.

It was the first time he saw Aeryn like this, and of course he was very concerned about her well-being.

"So, what happened to Aeryn?" He asked Alpha.

"Apparently, this sword contains an evil aura that makes the holder experience what he fears the most. It's like a test that the wearer must pass in order to use the sword without the backslash."

"I see, but how do you know so much about this sword?"

"Because I know its owner."

"Oh, and who might that be?"

Alpha paused to look at the hallway.

"It's Aeryn's mother."

"What?!"

Aeryn had already left the room and was on her way to the living room when she heard the conversation. She hid behind the wall to eavesdrop on the conversation.

When she heard Alpha mention her mother, she froze.

How does Alpha know about my mother? Why did my mother have such a sword? What really happened to her? These were just some of the thoughts running through Aeryn's mind at that moment.

She was ready to rush in and get Alpha to tell her everything. But how could she trust her? She'd already lied to her once about her origins. Aeryn had already come to the conclusion that she could no longer trust Alpha. She wanted to know more about her mother, but now the only one she could trust was her aunt.

After taking a few deep breaths to calm herself down, she left her hiding place and made her way to the living room.

"Oh, hey Aeryn, feeling better?"

She nodded and began to stare at Alpha. She wanted to see if she'd tell her something about her mother. But as she expected, the only thing Alpha said was, "I'm glad you're okay, Master."

"Tch." Aeryn muttered, walking away from Alpha.

Yashito was confused as to why Aeryn suddenly displayed such behaviour. But after a while he understood why Aeryn's sudden behaviour had happened. He could guess that she had overheard their conversation and wanted answers about her mother. But that was all he knew, and either way he was not the appropriate person to talk to her about it. It was Alpha who had to do it.

Even Alpha understood that Aeryn had heard her talking about her mother and knew that she was angry with her. But everything should go the way she had been told. Even though she didn't want Aeryn to hate her, she had to do this to protect her. She still wasn't strong enough to know the truth about her parents, about her origins.

In the meantime, Aeryn had gone to her room to prepare to leave the house. She equipped her sword and went to the living room.

"I am going to go to the tower for a while. I need to raise my level." She said.

"Wait, wait, you just woke up. Relax a little and we'll go tomorrow." Yashito replied.

"Don't try to change my mind, I'll go. I can't be in a place with liars." She said and looked at Alpha, who lowered her head.

Yashito decided not to say anything, because anything he might say could make Aeryn angry with him too.

Aeryn left the house and just before she left, Yashito asked her if he should call a cab to take her to the city.

"Don't worry, I don't need a cab." she replied, rising into the air with a leap.

"When did she learn to fly?" Yashito asked.

"The sword helps her control her powers, but it uses the negative emotions to increase her anger. It's better to let her kill some monsters to calm down. Although it's not entirely certain that her anger will dissipate. Let's hope everything goes well, otherwise even I don't know if I can handle Aeryn's full power."
