Professor Dreos pointed to the typewriter that was connected to his gloves and explained further. "This thing will tell me if you are lying. Please tell a lie to clarify that it works."
Kore thought for a short while about a lie to tell, but as he just had to say something that wasn't true, he was able to quickly respond. "My family is rich." That was a lie because Kore's parents didn't have much money, but it wasn't like they went hungry every day. They just had enough, so they were able to live a normal life.
The machine made some weird noises like there was something moving in it, and when the sound finally stopped, a red flag came out from the top of it, showing that what Kore said right now was a lie.
"Now," Dreos spoke again. "Please tell something true."
Kore thought again and quickly came up with something that involved his family again. "My father is a darkness element." That, of course, wasn't a lie. His dad always liked to brag about his almighty darkness. He always loved to tell Kore how at his prime he was able to go beyond this world with his powers. Of course, Kore knew it was exaggerated but still treated his dad like a hero because of his young brain at that time.
Once again, the machine made noises and a green flag appeared out of it, showing that what Kore said was true.
"Good," Jey Dreos said. "Now we will start the actual questioning," "Are you ready? "
Kore gulped and answered simply, "Yes!"
A red flag appeared out of the machine, which Dreos ignored, as he only asked because it might make the opposite more comfortable with the situation. It wasn´t like if Kore said no, he could go for now or anything. Dreos also didn´t want to wait here with Kore until he was ready.
"Then the first question." Dreos announced as he looked at a piece of paper. "We got the message that somebody in the dungeon was severely wounded. Why is that?"
Kore chose to answer truthfully, not because he had any other choice, but he also only said as much as he needed to. "That is because I was wounded."
As Dreos looked up from his paper to see what flag it was, he once again asked, "When I came into the dungeon, you weren't. Why is that? "
Kore now had another idea. He didn't want to tell Dreos about his actual power. He didn't know why, but Dreos gave him a weird feeling, even though he was mostly pretty nice in his own way. So telling him would be like revealing his weakness of needing corpses for him to use his element in the slightest.
"My friend Leo," Kore started to explain, "He has a sleeping element and is able to heal other people with it."
What looked like a lie at first definitely wasn't a lie. It was tricky to explain if a red flag would appear, as the question itself wasn't much one could do much wrong. After getting beat up by Turb, it seemed like he was healed by Leo. That being said, Kore noticed only when he was connected to the typewriter. It would only check if he was lying. Not if he answered the question truthfully. That was also proven by the green flag that appeared.
"He truly is talented if he is able to heal you so quickly." Dreos praised Leo, unknowing of the flaw in the machine. "Then let me ask, how were you even able to get injured so much?"
He continued, "The monsters in the first level of the dungeon should be rather weak for the students of the academy."
Dreos now revealed something that Kore didn't know, but he didn't know if it was a fact that other students also didn´t know or just him. It was that there were different levels of the dungeon. Kore imagined it to be like floors, as he had seen this principle in video games of his old world.
"My element has a few conditions that need to be fulfilled first for me so I can use it" Kore explained once again. "I got a bit cocky and I don´t think I need to say more."
This, again, was no lie. His element had conditions like having a corpse in front of him and having its soul intact. He also got cocky as he had the frog in his hands. He also thought he didn't need to say more as it was enough to fool Dreos. That was once again proven with a green flag.
Seeing the flag, Dreos nodded and spoke again. "You said the element of your dad is darkness. Then your element is darkness too, or what is it and what happened there with these arms? " Professor Dreos didn't show it, but in his thoughts he had a grin on his face. The principal told him he didn't need to know Kore's element, but he was curious. He wanted to know why he was treated differently from the other students. If he were from a rich family that was important for human life or something like that, then he might understand, but he said he wasn't rich. Of course, he was also not poor.
The question made Kore sweat, but as soon as he opened his mouth, a message appeared.
[Acquired: Lie Detection Resistance Level 1!]
Seeing this message, Kore's heart skipped a beat as it was just what he needed right now. The only question was if it would work as it is only level 1. It would put Kore in quite a troublesome situation, as this was probably the most important question of it all. Kore also thought that maybe the more he lied, the higher the chance there would be for his skill to not work. That´s why he quickly needed to make up a lie that wasn´t too much of a lie. Without thinking too much about it, as he needed to answer quickly to not look suspicious, he said the first thing that came to his mind.
"My element is a bit weird." Kore explained. "It seems like I don't really have it under control much as everyone who finds out or whom I tell about it will have extreme misfortune until their death, which always is around one month away from when I tell them."
When Kore started explaining, he knew this was too much. He might ask if his parents know about his element and if they are alive. There was also still the possibility that Kore's skills weren't working. He didn't know what he would do if that were the case. But his mind was quickly at ease after seeing the green flag.
"I see," Dreos said as he sighed and pressed a button that made Kore able to put off his gloves. "You are free to leave now as I don't want to die."
For Dreos, this explanation actually made sense. The principal didn't want to tell him, and he probably also didn't know. He understood that if Kore wanted to tell everyone, they might find their end soon.
´And here I thought I could find something out, but if the machine says it´s true, then there is nothing I can do.' Dreos, though disappointed. ´At least that is for now.´
