The window of the car rolled down slowly revealing a man at the back seat who had his head lowered. His jet black hair rested slightly at the side of face and his long lashes covered any emotions hidden in his eyes.
His head remained down even when he noticed the presence of Raine and Nicole, he still had no urge to look at them but just continued staring down at his phone.
Looking at the man in the car, a small smile rose to Nicole's thin lips and she took a side glance at her friend who had her gaze everywhere beside the car.
Nicole rolled her eyes and then nudged at Raine with her elbows prompting her to get into the car.
Raine bit her lips before letting out a deep sigh. No matter how much she tried she would never get away from reality. She flashed a small smile at Nicole who was now grinning from ear to ear like a little child waiting for candy.
Looking at her friend's childish grin, Raine let out a small laugh feeling a little light hearted. She waved at Nicole slowly before taking small baby steps towards the car.
She slowly opened the door and got into car after a while of hesitation.
The minute she shut the door of the car, the window rolled up and immediately sped off into the road. Raine took a minute to collect her self and then turned her head ever so slowly to the man sitting beside her who had not even raised his head to acknowledge her presence all this while.
Her soft gaze lingered on his admirable side profile and she couldn't help but inwardly praise her luck for such a sight to feast her eyes on. Although, lots of things had been happening lately she still thanked her heavens that she could see such divine beauty.
"Like what you see?"
Finally, Jedrek's deep voice resounded in the car and a small smirk rose to the corner of his lips when he noticed Raine checking him out.
He finally shifted his gaze from his phone and then stared at her deeply watching how her eyes widened and her reddened cheeks hinted her embarrassment. Somehow he found her little yet simple actions cute and a soft chuckle escaped his mouth.
Raine glared at him when she saw him making fun of her and she humphed, "Anything funny?" she asked with a slight pout and Jedrek had to fight with his inner demons
to resist the urge to cup her cute face between his hands.
He cleared his throat after a while and Raine turned her head towards the window. She didn't notice the deep gaze that was staring intently at her, quietly watching her reactions as the car sped drove through a route she had never seen.
Moments later she turned her head back to him and looking at his deep gaze fixated on her, she shrunk back on the seat.
"Sorry but..." Raine began but her voice trailed off at the end. She bit her lips nervously and her fingers were clutched at the hem of her shirt.
Jedrek noticed her behavior and a small smile was etched on his face.
'She's hesitating to talk, am I that scary?' he thought and his cold expression became even colder.
After mustering up the courage to speak, she nervously cleared her throat and spoke up again.
"Sorry but... I don't... I don't know your name," her not too audible voiced echoed in the quiet car and his gaze rested on her slightly worried face.
Raine sighed when she didn't hear his reply and turned her head towards the window. The vast scenery of endless tress greeted her view and she let out another deep sigh.
She didn't know if she was a fool or if her naivety had just escalated to another level but whichever it was she was certain that neither could get her out of the situation she was in.
Here she was following a stranger to his house and she didn't even know his name, identity or even his purpose but one thing was for sure, he definitely had a connection to everything happening to her especially after that strange night... on her seventeenth birthday.
She exhaled a deep breath of exhaustion and then closed her eyes slowly letting her head rest on the chair and her hands placed on her sides.
A deep silence lingered after that with no one uttering a single word, not even the sound of their breathing could be heard.
She was about to drift off to sleep when all of a sudden, she felt a cold palm placed on one of her hand and her eyes jolted open.
Looking at his hand that fully covered hers, she could feel its temperature. His hands were too cold to the touch and she wondered if this was his normal temperature.
Clearing that thought, she slowly raised her head only to be met with a pair of misty grey eyes staring intently at her.
Instinctively she tried to pull her hand back but his grip tightened preventing het from any movement.
Jedrek watched her cautious expression for a while before letting out a deep breath with his hand still resting on hers.
"I know you're curious about me but don't blame me for not telling you anything. You can't be too cautious when you brought all this on yourself," he paused then scanned her reaction as a frown settled in on her face before he continued,
"You got into all this by accident and the sooner I get you out the better. All I can tell you for now is that you're not safe anywhere. Believe me but if I let you out, you'll encounter strange things everyday. The more you know about the whole situation, the harder it will get to pull you out. So take advantage of your ignorance and enjoy your freedom while it last..."
".... and my name is Jedrek."
