Chapter 23 - Chapter 20 Lesson 3-10 - The Movie Marathon (Part 2)

"Excellent. All right, try saying what Solomon did." Acting like he was a genius and that his plan was foolproof, Mammon began motioning for me to knock on the door. I was one hundred percent sure that this wasn't going to work, but I thought that I should at least try. And so, taking a deep breath, I knock on Levi's door and I hear Levi respond from behind his door. "What's the secret phrase?"

I look to Mammon, who just gave me a thumbs up as if he's entirely sure this would work. I let out a sigh and said exactly what Solomon said. "The second lord..." I was certain that I was correct, but instead of getting the next part of the phrase, there was a moment of silence. "*buzzz*! Secret phrase authentication failure. Access denied." As Levi flat-out denies me access to his room, like I knew would happen, I let out a frustrated sigh.

"Wha? Wait, that was totally right! It's exactly what Solomon said!" Both confused and annoyed at being denied to enter Levi's room, Mammon looked like he wanted to break the door down. "The secret phrase is periodically reset." Levi simply told us this, and though I was upset that we could not enter his room, I was slightly impressed that he has other passwords ready to go at a moment's notice.

"You're saying it's a one-time password? Seriously?!" Mammon was ticked off, and I was really starting to worry that he might actually break down the door. "Maybe you should come back after you've at least watched TSL on DVD." As if to say that was the end of the conversation, Levi moved further away from his door. I started to ponder on what Levi just said, wondering if watching TSL on DVD before talking to Levi again would actually work.

"Ugh, come on! What the hell, Levi?! ...I don't understand exactly what's goin' on here, but from what I can gather...basically, Solomon just proved to Levi that he's a total TSL nerd too, so now they're buddies. Which means that if you wanna borrow that soundtrack from Levi...then you're gonna have to do what Solomon did, and become a TSL nerd yourself. It's that or nothing!" Mammon looked at me serious, and I nodded, agreeing that I must do this or be haunted by the voice for the rest of the year. I had a TV in my room, all I needed was TSL on DVD.

Having no other option, I pull out my D.D.D. and began walking away from Levi's door, Mammon following me and calling my name, looking utterly confused. I went to the Akuzon, the shopping app, on my phone and looked up TSL on DVD. With the money I have been getting from my tasks and part-time jobs, I purchased the complete TSL series on DVD and selected same-day delivery. Now I just need food and drink for this movie marathon I have planned.

"Hey, uh...Mammon, after school, could you do me a favor and bring lots of snacks and energy drinks to my room. Also, if you see a package addressed to me, could you bring that to my room as well, please?" I asked Mammon politely, giving him an innocent yet serious look, and he agreed as he shrugged, lifting his hands up, and letting out an exasperated sigh. Having settled that, we made our way to RAD and headed to class.

After a whole day of demon school, I head home and went to my room to prepare for this huge movie marathon. Mammon came in with the snacks and drinks that I asked, just when I finished setting up the TV and the snack table. He sets the snacks down and I ask him if he could stay and watch with me. Mammon starts glaring at me, as I put in the DVD and tell him about what we were about to do.

"So, explain somethin' to me. Why do I gotta join you for this TSL Full Series DVD Marathon Night you're doin'?! And you say it's 12 hours total?! What's up with that?! We'll be up all damn night!" I know I have already asked for so much from him, but I need someone to keep me awake so I didn't miss a thing. Also, I need someone to quiz me to make sure I know everything correctly.

"Yeah, and it's almost midterms. You must have a lot of free time, Mammon." To my surprise, Beel was sitting on the edge of my bed, eating some of the snacks. "No, I DON'T! ...Anyway, you're one to talk! What about you, Beel?! You're here too!" Mammon started scolding Beel, all while Beel continues to slowly consume the huge pile of snacks Mammon brought. "A movie marathon means there's going be popcorn." Beel smiles as he eyes the popcorn hungrily.

"You're tellin' me you're just here for the food, beggin' the human for treats like some kind of dog?!" Mammon continued to glare at Beel, as I start to grab some of the snacks that I wanted to eat and picked up the remote, ready to get this movie marathon started. "All I know is that once we start watching, I get to start eating. So, hurry it up!" I couldn't believe that Beel already ate a fourth of the snacks, and hasn't really noticed that he was still eating. I didn't really mind though, as I was ushering Mammon to hurry up, grab some snacks, and sit down.

"Ugh, this is so stupid that it's...it's unreal. Why am I stuck watching this too...?" As Mammon continues to grumble, I turn off the lights and pressed the play button, starting the show. We were slowly making headway as we started watching The Tale of the Seven Lords DVD Volume 2.

In this collection of episodes of the show, the protagonist Henry and the Lord of Shadow, though they represent two different species, bridge such differences to form a pact. Working together, they set a trap for the Lord of Fools, who falls victim to it. The Lord of Fools is then driven off, chased up into the snowy northern country. It's there in the cold, barren wastes that he discovers the frozen body of his former sweetheart, Geldie. He once loved her, before they parted...

"Wh...seriously?! He's finally reunited with her, only to find out that she's dead?! No...that can't be! Can't he, like, use some magic or somethin' to bring back to life...?! Don't you dare die, Geldie! It can't end like this, it just can't...! He's gonna find a way to save Geldie, right?! What do you think? Please...please say he saves her...!" Mammon looks anxiously at me and Beel, seemingly getting into the series so quickly. "If you want to know what happens, you'll have to keep watching." Beel told Mammon calmly as I ushered Mammon to be quiet. I was also deeply invested in this show, but I knew how to keep control of my thoughts and emotions when watching a movie marathon.

An hour or two later, we were on DVD Volume 5. We watched as the Lord of Flies faces a crisis after his country is invaded by hostile forces from another land. The opposing army isolates them, cutting off supply lines so they will starve. Hoping to aid his brother, the Lord of Fools arranges for food supplies to be smuggled in. However, a long spell of wet, rainy weather causes all the food he has sent to spoil. As a result, the Lord of Flies' land is beset by an outbreak of disease, on top of the famine they already face...

Mammon got emotional and started to weep as the story continued to unfold. "...Don't blame the Lord of Fools...! He was worried about the Lord of Flies and wanted to help... That's all! I can't believe the food ended up spoiling... It's not fair. He was bein' so helpful, and he meant well... So, why...WHY...?" Mammon continued to cry as I hand him a couple of tissues.

"Mammon, stop crying. Your nose is running, you know." Beel gave Mammon the side-eye as Mammon continued to cry. "Come on, how can I NOT cry watchin' this, huh?! ...It's all so saaaaaaaad...!" As Mammon soon proceeds to cry harder, I try my best to comfort him. I was a bit surprised at how sensitive Mammon was when watching stuff like this.

Another hour or two later, we were finally on DVD Volume 7. Set in the year 825 of the ancient era, the Lord of Emptiness leads a sudden rebellion against his eldest brother, the Lord of Corruption. Unwilling to forgive this betrayal, the Lord of Corruption imprisons him within the Tower of Shadow in the farthest corner of the world. The other lords lament the fate that has befallen their youngest brother, but there is nothing they can do. For they fear incurring the wrath of the Lord of Corruption above all else...

As I pay close attention to this volume of the show, I feel like I am remembering something important that I forgot about when Mammon suddenly got irritated. "Seriously, what's wrong with them? They're brothers, aren't they? Couldn't one of them have done something to stop it from coming to this? I mean, sure, maybe the Lord of Emptiness himself deserves some of the blame, too. But even so, I can't believe they'd abandon their brother like that..." Mammon got a little loud, upset at how the other lords were acting. Beel looked upset as well, but I couldn't tell if it was because he was invested in the show, wanted more food, or ...something else.

As we continued to watch the rest of the show, I started to feel sleepy. I took a big sip of my energy drink, but it was no longer helping as much. I tried to stay focused, but it was getting harder and harder to stay awake. 'Just a few more hours. Just a few more hours of this, and I can go to bed.' Soon, I couldn't keep my head up, so I rested it on Mammon's shoulder. I felt him tense up for a moment, but then he quickly relaxed. Since he didn't complain, I thought it was okay and I continued to watch with my head on Mammon's shoulder.
