Chapter 3 - Responsibilities

"Doctors said I have one month at most. So I want to see you take charge of this pack and adjust to life here, "Isabella said as she looked at her son.

"There is no need for me to take charge. You will be fine. We can try another doc–" The young prince was not ready to take the charge yet.

"There is no need to waste efforts on futile attempts. Start focusing on more important things," Isabelle used her Luna voice at her son and Ryle had no other choice but to nod his head in the end.

If it was her mother's order he could have argued more but when it comes to words from their Luna there should be no conflict or argument.

That night mother and son dined together after the separation of a whole year when Ryle had returned last year.

"So, I heard you opened a new company in London," Isabella asked while slowly sipping on her medicated drink.

The whole table was full of food but none of the mother and son had any appetite.

Ryle was chewing absentmindedly on the food without paying attention to what he was eating.

Everything tasted bitter to him at that moment.

"It's a small business in the jewellery market. Engelson corporation is lacking in that field so I thought it would be a good idea, "Ryle said.

"So, are you going to merge it with Engelson's?" Isabella couldn't help but ask.

"It's too sudden to decide. It's just a small seedling. I might let it grow before making decisions, "Ryle replied.

"Plus it's in partnership with someone. I can't decide on my own," he added.

Isabella nodded her head in understanding.

After dinner, Ryle sent her straight to bed and forbade her to waste any more energy before reassuring her that he would take care of everything.

In the office of Luna on the second floor.

"So you're telling me that there is no way to cure her?" Ryle asked as he looked at his mother's secretary, Acting Beta of their pack, Sophia. She was an unmated beautiful twenty-seven-year-old young lady with the brain of a genius in business as well as in handling the pack by his mother's side.

"Human medicines aren't working on her and there is no other cure. Dr Murray has tried everything he could do by now. He is still working with some doctors of our friend packs and trying to think of a solution," Sophia explained.

Ryle heaved out a deep sigh and sat down on the sofa.

"So, what do we do now?" He asked after a while.

"Your mother has planned that you will take on the position of the Alpha next week on the thirteenth and can choose your Beta and other people you want by your side. After that she will hand over the position of the CEO of the company to you by the seventeenth of the month," Sophie said. She had always maintained a sophisticated voice and elegance that suits the secretary of a big CEO. Her voice was unwavering and her tone was very even which made it hard to ignore her.

Hearing what she said Ryle looked at her as if he had just seen a ghost. According to what she said he was to take over every responsibility in less than seven days. That was too much for a young wolf to digest in one go.

"So, you better start taking a look at the things around and we can keep things moving and be done with it as soon as possible," Sophia said and then she put a few files in his hand that she just picked from the table.

Ryle looked down at the bundle and cursed in his head. He was not going to like this. Yet, he opened the first file and saw documents about a few influential people in their pack and the name of young warriors. He looked up at Sophie with a question mark on his face, who was turning over some other documents.

Sensing his gaze on her, she looked at him.

"Oh, that is a list of some people who are fit to be your Beta and the other people like I just said a few minutes ago," The woman pressed that last part of her sentence.

"Why do I need to choose new people? You can work as my beta, " Ryle pointed his finger at her.

A small smile played on Sophie's lips as she turned on her heels to look at the young man in front of her.

"First of all, I'm not a warrior. Secondly, I'm a female and the elders of the pack will never approve of me as your Beta," Sophia raised her fingers one by one as she counted the reason why she couldn't be his Beta.

"And third, I haven't found my mate yet. So if I find him in the near future and if he is from another pack I have to leave, "Sophia stated, raising her third finger.

"Fair enough, " Ryle nodded his head.

"Only if you find one ever," Ryle jabbed at the girl with a boyish smile on his face.

Sophie rolled her eyes at his not so funny comment. It would be a disaster for any werewolf to not mate for a whole life. Meeting a mate and creating a bond with each other gives a whole new purpose to their life. Most of the werewolves who didn't meet till a certain age mostly go insane and in the end die a cruel death. A mate is a boon from the moon goddess to every wolf but if you don't find one it is not any better than living a cursed life.

"Don't worry, your mother has promised me that if I don't find my mate till my next birthday she will let me marry you," Sophia said with the sweetest smile on her face. The one where her cute little dimples showed up.

"You are nuts. " It was time for Ryle to roll his eyes. She felt cringe all over his body looking at her smile.

"Why not? She even said that it will be your honour to find a smart, intelligent and cute Luna like me," Sophie purposely showed her dimples when she saw her irritated face.

Ryle waved his hand and stood up and said, "I'll look into them."

He left the study with documents in his hands as he couldn't take her crap anymore. It was already five in the morning and he needed some sleep.

Sophie laughed out loud behind his back.
