The mating ceremony had a process to it, an order that couldn't be interrupted. Every wolf knew the mating ceremony in its entirety.
It was taught by every pack to all the young wolves, just like they were taught how to control their emotions so they didn't shift all over the place, just like they were taught they had to shift into both, human and wolf,
at frequent periods, because they were both parts of you and denying either would be terrible in the long run with terrible consequences.
The mating ceremony was a rare event though. Many wolves, even when they had chosen to dedicate their lives to someone, didn't go through with the mating ceremony. It wasn't that it was archaic, a ritual that only the forest packs practiced. Because even in the forest, it was rare to find a bonded pair of wolves.
