Chapter 7 - The Crimson Forest

Druak and Isacc could see the beautiful canopy of the forest, its crimson light illuminating everything around them.

"Look at those trees, I've never seen such beautiful, red leaves. They almost look as if they are completely made of fire." Isacc continued to look in wonder at the beautiful leaves atop the trees.

Druak didn't even bother to look at Isacc just responding."Yeah, amazing."

All he could do was stare bewildered at the landscape that was before them.

'This is astonishing.'

However as he admired the view, his eyes shifted and began to widen as he noticed something that shocked even him.

*Crunch*Druak rushed to grab Isacc and pull him towards the closest thing he could find, not caring about the noise he made from stepping on the tree branches.

"What are y..." "Shhh, look over there." As Druak pointed toward a specific location, Isacc realised why Druak acted so quickly without letting him speak or react.

Both Isacc and Druak were once again shocked but this time not because of the beauty they saw, before them was an enormous flaming figure that eclipsed even the trees that surrounded it.

Isacc began to sweat profusely. "That's a greater fire demon, isn't it. I thought they were killed years ago."

"I'm not sure what's going on but we need to be careful, if it notices us we'll be flayed and burnt alive especially if it doesn't have a contractor."Druak began to clench his fist as a grin appeared on his face." Although it is a shame I can't get a closer look at it, I'm curious to see how strong it actually is."

"Druak you know that's too risky, a contactless demon would rip us to shreds."

Both Druak and Isacc already knew about demons and how deadly they could be due to past experiences.

"So what stage do you think it is."Isacc asked while clutching the tree trunk."Probably four otherwise we would see minions everywhere and it would already be a bloodbath." Isacc flinched after hearing the stage it could be at, while Druak proceeded to sneak into the enormous forest before them.

"You coming or you just going to stand there."Druak asked with a large grin on his face. "Yeah, I'm on my way."Isacc jumped at the question but quickly straightened his back as he spoke.

As they walked throughout the forest they encountered some small creatures, but nothing serious enough to cause them harm.

It had been hours since they entered the forest and Isacc relaxed a bit too much because of how peaceful it was.

As Isacc stopped to catch his breath he reached his hand out and touched the leaves of a crimson tree causing him to yelp in pain as he recoiled away from the tree.

Druak and Isacc looked down at the burn, which seemed to be nothing severe, only a few small boils which had slight rashes around them.

Chuckling away Druak asks."So how is that hand of yours." Isacc stared blankly at Druak "How do you think it is, it feels like cr**p." Isacc's brows furrowed as he slowly approached Druak.

"Hey hey, I was joking," Druak responded as he stumbled away from Isacc.

As Druak stumbled away from Isacc he began to feel as if incredibly hot air was hitting his back.

"Lookout '' Isacc shouted as he sprinted towards Druak.

Quickly spinning around Druak came face to face with a spider that was the size of his fist, but this spider didn't look normal, it had razor-sharp legs that seemed to be on fire.

Jumping away as fast as he could Druak tried to avoid the razor-sharp legs of the spider.

Once Druak left the reach of the spider he realised he wasn't as lucky as he thought.

Druak could feel it, the sharp searing pain of the poison traveling inside of his body.

He began to inspect it, there he saw a small cut which had caused his veins to turn to bright luminescent orange.

"Sh*t I've been poisoned." Druak grimaced.

"If I can find the antidote you'll be perfectly fine, so don't worry" Isacc chuckled while sweat began to drip down his brow.

"You know it's not that easy, just because the crimson spider was here doesn't mean you'll find the antidote." Druak said with heavy breaths.

"I'll be right back just trust me." Isacc said as he rushed off into the distance.

Druak lay there in his own sweat seeing the blurry image of his friend slowly disappearing.

As he lay there Druak began to curl up into a ball and twist his face in agony. He could feel every movement as if he had burns covering his entire body.'This is excruciating, I can barely think straight.'

He tried as hard as possible to ignore the pain, digging his nails deep into his flesh.

It worked. He felt the heat of the blood from his hand but the rest of the pain subsided.

This only lasted for mere moments, however as the pain continued and so did his writhing in pain.

'When is this pain going to stop, I just want it to stop. It feels as if I've been laying here for hours.'

He began to breathe more and more heavily as the poison began to approach his heart, he could feel it, he could feel the burning pain as it approached his chest.

'Is this the end, am I going to die for real this time.'

Just as Druak was preparing for his demise something occurred, almost as if by a miracle, the pain just stopped. It was just for a few seconds but it was enough. [Soon... This... Mine.]

He could hear a faint noise but the searing pain had once again returned causing him to lose focus as he could only concentrate on the pain he felt.

Isacc ran as fast as he possibly could.'I can't lose anyone else, I need to save him.'

As Isacc sprinted back he lost his focus and fell face first into the ground, tumbling into the scorching hot dirt.

Isacc began punching the ground."Damn it, damn it."

He knew there wasn't much chance of finding an antidote but he kept searching and searching, but he couldn't find anything.

It had already been quite a while since he left Druak and he knew if he didn't find it soon Druak would die.

Stumbling over, Isacc began to drag his body towards Druak, even if he couldn't save Druak he still wanted to be there for him at the end.

Isacc had returned to where Druak was and fell to his knees.

Tears began to fall from his eyes."I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." He kept repeating himself as he watched his friend writhing in pain.

Then Druak's body suddenly stopped writhing in pain, not even making a sound.

Isaac approached his friend's body putting his head towards Druaks chest. "It, it stopped, he's dead." Isaac muttered as tears continued to fall down his eyes.

Druak had finally stopped moving, he was dead.
