Chapter 26 - Tentacles or snakes

His hands brushed off the fish as he tried to clean his body properly.

He stepped out of the water feeling very refreshed. His refreshment was also long-lived if ten minutes is long enough. A cold rough round object suddenly wrapped itself around his ankle and began pulling him back to the water he just walked out of.

He groaned and looked down at his ankle while trying to maintain his posture fighting back the pull on his ankle.

Alas! His question about things getting worse was answered in the best way as something that looked like a snake was wrapped around his ankle.

He pulled as hard as he could to remove the snake's hold and that only made the grip tighten. Funny how his swords were only three feet away from him lying with the clothes he was supposed to change into.

He stretched his other leg with the hope of pulling them closer to him so he could get them but the snake pulled him back. His vision was clear and the moonlight seemed to brighten.

Whatever that thing is, succeeded in pulling him farther from his swords. He followed the round silvery form from his legs to the water he had just stepped out of. But he could not see the end of it.

"Whatever this is about, could we just talk it out?" he murmured as a strange wave of fatigue hit him almost to dizziness.

". . ."

Seriously? It was disrespectful to pull someone's legs without a proper introduction.

He looked at the swords and his freshly cleaned body. Alas, he would have to make it dirty again. He fell to the floor and picked up one of his swords.

He stabbed down towards his ankle. The snake was fast enough to pull its tail from that leg and when he did the same to his second leg, it released him but remained so close.

It was so fast. Liam felt upset that despite how much he thought he was fast enough, this snake or tentacles whatever they were proved his speed to be slower than he strongly believed.

That was the moment he began to feel threatened. He has already dirtied again and what was left was to save his *ss and get back to the men who should be by his side fighting these things for him. After all, they were his guards.

They were so low and he was not a fan of such fights. He could only pray that he would only have to deal with them below. Crunching might have been a bad idea because he was thrown aside before he could swing his sword.

That was supposed to be a poke it was the tip of a finger but it was one hell of a punch with those big crazy things attacking him.

Another punch to his arm and his sword slipped from his hand but he was quick enough to catch it with his other hand. He held it firmly in that hand and smiled. "Not nice," he wondered why his body did not react to this as dangerous as it has always done when someone was about to hurt him.

It was strange at first but it had slowly become a part of him and he was not uncomfortable with a second thought as much as he wished it could be toned down a little.

He dropped his swords and looked at the round tips looking at him, he saw no eyes, nose, or mouth that could make him conclude that it was a snake or try guessing the name of the animal the least.

The figures did not move and after a few seconds of calmness, Liam watched them pull away back into the water. The monsters in this world were rude.

He walked back to the water and looked into it hoping to see the whole figure of whatever that was but he saw nothing and it only got darker as the moon got hidden behind the clouds.

He sighed and turned to leave. His ankles were wrapped with that cold object he wished he did not have to get familiar with. It pulled him as soon as it wrapped around him and he fell into the water with a loud splash.

None of this was funny to Liam as he cussed and swore as hard as he could under the water. When his head was pulled out of the water, he screamed as he continued struggling with those things.

His stomach turned uncomfortably and he felt nauseated.

"I am not going to harm you. I only wanted to talk to you," he heard a soft voice announce.

That voice did not ease his anger as it only got his face red and hot. It was a woman? Why was his luck with women in this so bad it makes him want to cry?

He thought of the number of women whose hearts he had broken in his past life and concluded that they must have cursed him to face retribution in this life.

"Fine, I am listening, could you make that stop?" he asked her as he stilled.

"Oh, my snakes? I am sorry. I stopped them from using their heads and they decided to make the best of their tails," she laughed and his ankles were released.

Oh. . . was this only beginning to make sense to him alone?

He would have nearly lost his mind if they were tentacles and no offense but he was already making up his mind to fight to the death if that was the case.

The horror made his expression distorted.

"You must not like snakes as many said," she observed.

"Who likes snakes?" he asked finding her words crazy.

"I do, I train a few and I use them since we are not allowed to have beasts anymore."

Hearing her reply sounded closer and closer with every word she said, he looked around to find the owner of the voice.

Only a couple of meters away from him, he noticed a movement. He saw a red object next, a patch of white below, and the revelation continued.

The moon seemed to escape the obstruction of those clouds and shone down in its full glory bathing the beauty to close, yet so far from him.

The shadows of her long lashes and the slight curve of her pink lips had him swallowing hard. The corners of those lips only got further lifted.
