Chapter 1 - Will I recover?

***Pelican villa***

Relaxed on the garden bench was a young, tall man with black sunglasses covering his eyes. He had a straight sitting posture as he played with his fingers. Looking closely, one could sense and feel the air of complete loss and dejection surrounding him.

Lost in his thoughts, he felt a light tap on his shoulder as a voice above him sounded, " Young Master, First young Master wishes to talk to you." The butler said as he moved closer and handed the phone over. He quietly excused himself as he stood by the side.

" Hey" The young man spoke into the mouth piece after placing the phone next to his ear.

" How are you doing, umm I couldn't come over as planned. I was held up at work and had an emergency trip so am currently out of the city." Came the voice from the speaker. The person on the phone was the first young Master of the Paulson family, Neil Paulson, he was the eldest with two other younger brothers after him. The one he was conversing with over the phone was the second young Master, Jade Paulson.

Hearing his elder brother's question, Jade kept quite for a moment before opening his mouth to speak. " Same same, it's the same and I don't see or feel any improvement, bro do you think there is a chance that I might recover?" He exhaled before continuing, " I went to see the doctor yesterday and he said the same old thing, so do you think I might recover soon or any time later?".

Neil listened to his younger brother's desolate voice and he sighed. He didn't know what to tell Jade or what to say at the moment. He was tongue tied.

" Of course you will, you just have to take the doctor's prescription. For now just nurse your eyes back and wait for your operation. There is much improvement and am sure that this time there won't be a rejection.

" You don't have to comfort me cause that will give me hope, anyway how is you and sister in-law? Heard from mom that she went back home, did you fight again?" Probed Jean as he shifted into a comfortable position.

" Your sister in-law has been behaving strangely these past days but  we managed to fix that, anyway father told me that Uncle and Lizzy will be back in a week from now from their honeymoon so he wants us home for dinner and am sure I will be home by then."

Time seemed to stop immediately after Jean heard those words. His grip on the phone tightened as he remembered the past, especially the previous month. He shut his eyes as he pressed his lips together before answering, " I don't see a problem with going over to wish them good on their marriage. I will be waiting for you."

The two brothers talked for most of the afternoon and by the time the call ended, the butler was already looking as if he was poured a bucket of water as sweat trickled down his forehead.

' phew, that was sure a murder attempt on me by making me stand for the whole afternoon. Water, water, yeah I need to hydrate my body, I still have to give my wife a suprise and she can't see me looking as if I aged overnight'. He muttered as he fanned himself with his hand.

Receiving back the phone after the call, the middle aged butler of around 40 years of age turned to face his young Master. He cleared his throat as he prepared himself to speak. " Second young Master I think it's time to go back, I will get the maids to prepare a hot bath for you before dinner.

Hearing the affirmation from his young Master,  he helped him into the house.
