Chapter 4 - New Beginnings (part 4)

Drew held onto Laura's soft hands. For some reason he was expecting her to have coarse hands since she seemed like an alcholic but for some reason her hands were really soft.

Drew was one hundred percent sure that she could get a job as a hand model. She led Drew forward and walked for quite a while which surprised him. He had thought that it was quite small after seeing the outside but surprisingly it was not.

After walking for quite a while with Old man Milla behind them holding his throat they finally stopped in front of a bookshelf filled with tiny boxes instead of books.

Laura took a look at Drew before reaching for a box. She opened it and inside it was a metal wand. It had a pointy edge and a feather attached to it's end.

Laura handed the wand over to Drew. Drew held the wand and examined it with interest. "Wave it." Laura said and Drew did so.

The wand flew out of Drew's hand stuck itself onto a wall like a dart on a dart board. Laura picked it up and put it back into the box. "No, too scared."

"Here try this one." Old man Milla said as he handed a wand to Drew. It was a plastic transparent wand with a ribbon attached to it.

Laura bonked old man Milla on the head and lectured him on not touching her products.

Meanwhile Drew examined the wand. He held it for quite a while before waving it.

Laura took the wand of his hand. "Too stubborn."

For the first time Drew spoke to Laura. "Earlier on you said to scared and now you said to stubborn what do you mean by that?"

"Wow, your capable of speech..." Laura quickly hit Old man Milla on the head who had already puffed out his chest and was about to speak.

"You see these wands have a will of their own to a certain extent. If they like you then you are able to weild them with ease but if they don't like you then they allow you to weild only a small amount of their power. You need to find the right one to be able to use it's full potential."

Drew nodded as he understood the explanation. It was basically be compatible or else you find someone who is.

They spent quite a long time trying out wands with Old man Milla getting hit on the head as he brought out a random wand. An hour had passed and they had still not found a compatible wand for Drew.

Drew looked up and saw a black box. Laura noticed him looking up at it and brought it to him. Drew admired the amazing and beautiful handiwork of the box. It was a black box with a flower drawn on it. The flower had 4 petals and several thorns. Drew slid his hand over the box before opening it.

On top of the velvet cushion inside the box was a black wooden wand. The tip of it was blunt and had a small flower drawn on it and the middle part of it was metallic. The base was slightly thin and Drew could feel a slightly rough grip.

He marvelled at it and moved it around his fingers. Drew looked at Laura who nodded.

Drew waved the wand and immediately felt a connection to it. A calm chiming sound was rung through out the air.

The blacksmith hammering down on an iron ore looked up and wondered who it was that was responsible for it. The people who were selling fruits and vegetables also looked up and felt a calm atmosphere surround them.

"That's the one!" Laura said as she patted Drew on the head. She took the wand away from him and placed it back in the box before handing it to old man Milla.

"Alright, a basic Light weight armour for a child." Old man Milla and Drew followed her back to the counter where she pulled out a small leather armour.

It had metal plating on several areas including the shoulders and sides. It came with a strap across the front of his chest. She went back into the store and came back carrying some books.

Old man Milla paid for everything. He pulled out a pouch surprising Drew even further when he pulled out a wad of cash. 'He's breaking the rules, isn't he supposed to use gold coins or something of that kind?'

After they left Drew took a look at the receipt.

In a small handwriting at the very bottom Drew managed to read the words.

'She truly is a businesswoman.' Drew thought to himself. 'But I wonder how the currency of this world stacks against my old one. Usually a textbook in the United states costs around $15. A gun costs anywhere from $400 to $800 and I managed to get a wand, an weapon just as dangerous as a gun for 600 Rois. The exchange rate is quite balanced if I say so myself.'

Drew who was too focused and caught up in his thoughts did not notice the carriage that came hurtling down the street being pulled by horses with foam coming out of their mouth. People jumped out of the way as they did not want to get by it. Old Man Milla was carrying the heavy items in his hands and was staring at a cute woman who had smiled at him. He smiled back and winked at her.

Drew heard the commotion coming from his left and looked to the side. Drew's body froze as he did not what to do. Should he jump to the left, the right or should he run backwards?

Drew got a grip on himself and pointed his wand at the horses that were charging through the street. The carriage driver noticed the child that was pointing his wand at him but did not think to much of it. He knew children could not use magic, besides there was nothing he could do.

The horses were acting strange as if they had been injected with something. All he could do was guide them and wait for them to lose their energy. He knew he could not dodge the child.

If he jerked the horses to the right then they would crash into the nearby fruit stalls and he could not jerk them to the left as only the same thing would happen if he did. Besides if he crashed, he knew that his passengers would not like it at all in any way. In fact he maybe killed for it.

The driver could not control the bridles as he felt them being jerked to the right. He knew he wasn't controlling them so he took a glance at the child. The wand's tip was glowing slightly blue. "But that's impossible." the man exclaimed.

The horses crashed through several stalls pulling the carriage behind them. Luckily no one was injured but the owners were not happy at all.

The man picked himself of the ground and patted the dirt of his clothe. He was bleeding slightly from the head and he had several injuries around his body. He looked over at Drew who was standing still with his mouth open and wand raised. Drew was in shock. He had not expected the wand to make him this more powerful.

He didn't know what to do so it was just a spur of the moment and surprisingly it had worked. The driver rose to his full height and stretched his back before marching over to Drew.

"You little wench! Do you even know what you have done? Do you know who this carriage belongs to?" The man asked menacingly as he raised his hand to hit Drew. "This is the carri- Kufuuoo!"

The man's words were cut short by a punch to the face which sent him flying back. He flew so far back that his head lodged itself into the carriage. Drew looked up to see old man Milla standing over him with his hand raised from the punch he had just thrown.
