Drew fidgeted with the metal block in front of him. He was tired of hearing speeches. It did not matter what kind of speech. Whether it was from the police, the public defenders, the judge, the connect. They all had one thing in common. They spoke from a position of power and tried imposing their authority on him.
"That will be all... the test will start in 20 minutes time, everyone will need to be seated." Mrs Gozo said. She left with the other two.
As soon as they left everyone got back to what they were previously doing. They chatted with each other about different things creating a buzz.
Some of the kids thought that the teachers were not serious and spoke like that just to create a false sense of security. 'As if my family name wont work her, do you not know who I am, I am the child of so and so...' these were the thoughts on their heads.
While everyone were busy chatting to each other Drew was having some worries of his own. 'Is it going to be an actual written test? The old man told me there would be a physical. Dammit even I thought that I would have to fight some kids in some kind of tournament to be admitted in to the school. I wonder what the test will be about?'
Drew's thoughts were interrupted by a loud yell and the sound of a thud. Everyone turned their heads to see what was going but Drew already had an idea of what was happening. A kid sprawled on the floor with another standing a top of him looking down on him. The kid had long hair tied in to a pony tail. He had fair skin and wore several rings and silk garments.
The other kid wore a dirty rag that was made of sack. At least that was what Drew could only assume. His skin was covered in dirt and soil but no stench came from him.
"You lowly peasant, you dare bump into me and stain my clothes. These clothes alone are worth so much that even you last 10 ancestors and next 10 descendants life would not be able to buy it even if they worked for the 10 decades."
Drew frowned as heard these words. 'Wow, how original.' Drew then looked around. No one was standing up to stop him. They were all looking at the drama unfolding before their eyes.
'I knew it, this academy is like all the others. It's filled with those arrogant bastards who like to bully others.' these were the thoughts of most kids currently.
Another kid stood up and Drew watched as he looked down on the kid who was on the floor. He stared at him before kicking him. Drew could see him smiling as he kicked the kid.
"You know we should teach these worms their lessons before they get to full of themselves." he said to the other young master. "They all think this school is built on fairness but they don't know it's just like any other academy. They only say they are fair so that they can get more students."
"That's not true," a loud firm voice was heard making everyone turn their heads. Drew reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of jerky meat.
'I wish I had some popcorn but this will have to do.'
A small girl who was slightly taller than the other girls stood up. She wore a giant Victorian like dress that made Drew wonder how it was that she had sat down. She wore a small crown and several bracelets on her arm. A long beautiful necklace that Drew thought was given to her by her probably dead mother.
She walked forward while picking up her dress and walked forward.
'I swear on God almighty's name if she is royalty of some kind, I am going to lose my shit.'
The girl helped the guy on the floor up as the other two watched. They didn't want to hit a girl.
"You should not be bullying fellow students just because your family is richer and more powerful than theirs, that is wrong." she spoke in a cute voice as scolded the two.
"Says who," young master number one asked.
"What do you mean says who? No one needs to say it but people with common logic would figure that out by themselves."
"People with common logic would also know that people like me carry more significant value than a piece of trash like him. An lion can would eat a lamb that was wandering by itself and he would not care about the farmer or the mother goat. If the lion decided to leave the lamb alone and decided to escort it back home then he would be chased after with spears and pitchforks. They would not be grateful at all and he would starve."
"What kind of logic is that?" the girl asked. "This is not the wild where survival of the fittest rules but a civilised society where logic and reasoning prevail."
"Why not? It's the same is it not. In this society a man could be killed by a noble just for looking at him wrong, where is the civility in that? A woman could be taken from her husband and child and be r***d by some fat merchant and no one would do anything, tell me where is the civility in that princess?"
The girl seemed to be at a loss for words. The kid before her was speaking logically to her. After a while she managed to recover her tongue from the cat. "It doesn't matter, just because there are sick people out there does not mean everyone has to follow in their lead. We must be better than them and set a better example for the next genera-"
"Hey can you stop with this dumb act?" a voice came from behind the girl. The girl turned to see Drew sitting at his desk next to the wall fidgeting with the metal block. He had managed to get a great depiction of his face on the metal block. It was near identical.
"You dare to ruin our conversation-"
"I'm going to stop you there, clearly that girl passed the test and that guy didn't, can we move on to the next test?"
