After last night. I had to play normal to avoid attracting attention, Celeste's especially because she has been watching me like a hawk from breakfast. I had to keep it cool, but how could I when I've seen her in my dreams looking very dead because I had killed her.
I Couldn't sleep after the dream and as a result, I was sloppy.
I had even forgotten to carry a weapon for the qualifier matches today morning. But who needs weapons when you are already going to lose.
I know it sounds harsh, but I don't have faith in my team.

We both walked into the hallway and it was so packed today. I guess no one whats to miss the mage tournament. The school had a huge arena where the action was to happen like they knew that they were to host this year's tournaments. So yeah, the tournaments were a huge deal in the new human world. Think of them as the Olympics but between two cities and instead of countries, it was schools. That's how huge of a deal this was.
The only thing I was worried about was my parents seeing me lose in this tournament. Which was, by the way, my very first tournament.
"Morning Ralph and Celeste."Rebekah appeared out of nowhere and she was standing in front of us. She reeked of spirits which explained her overhyped enthusiasm.
We both stopped and replied at the same time. "Morning,"
She was smiling at us in a very creepy and uncomfortable way. "Ned asked me to give you this," she said
Then produced the sword Kirk had given me back in Tlavacus. I remember it was the reason I lasted in a fight against dark blood but after that, I don't remember where I had placed it. But here it was.
She placed it in my hand. It was still in the scabbard but I was already excited to try my new sword skills on this baby.
"Where's your weapon?" Rebekah asked Celeste using a very obvious sarcastic tone,
"My weapon is pure magic, it will only appear when I want it to," Celeste answered staring at Rebekah with a murderous gaze.
Come to think of it, I hadn't seen these two together ever since I woke up last week. Had something happened between them?
"Hmph" Rebekah snorted, "I guess we shall meet on the battleground, you hypocrite,"
"Indeed we shall you Coward," Celeste snarled,
They gave each other one last intense glare before they split up and went separate ways without saying anything to each other.
'Girl drama,' I thought to myself, then I headed to my class which was history.
.
.
Later at exactly 10:00 am as requested all classes were empty and all the students were in the arena cheering over the contestants who were us. Group A and Group B.
I could hear almost everyone cheer for team A which was obvious because they looked more powerful. We, on the other hand, were in the waiting room waiting for our coach to come to pump us with some energy, which won't work either. I have no faith in my team.
It was only Kowalski, me, Rebekah, and Celeste in the room. There was no sign of Tessa anywhere.
The speakers beeped. "Welcome students of Mayfair high," Mr. Klaus' voice bellowed all over the arena.
The crowds cheered even louder. The Arena was like a huge stadium but instead of grass and modern seats. The administration preferred a much more ancient approach with the center and seats being made from stone bricks. Usually, it would take years to build something like this, but in a world where magic and Technology are in sync, anything is possible.
The room door suddenly opened and a blue-haired girl walked in. "Hey guys," she said waving her hand lazily. I automatically Identified who she was, she was the so-called Tessa. Her hair was curled up, and she had a tired and gloomy look on her face. She had sunken sky blue eyes. She looked about my age and slightly taller than me.
Her uniform was a mess. She had no tie on and her skirt looked like she had just run through the dirt just to get here.
"I am sorry am late, I found myself sleeping in class again," she stretched. "Has the first match started," she asked Kowalski who looked the most nervous of all of us.
He was sweating, rolling his eyes left and right like he was looking for something, and let me not forget the intensive shaking.
Rebekah turned to him after taking longer to answer. "Are you okay?" Rebekah asked him, she was concerned. "Want a drink?" she offered him a tiny bottle of whisky.
How does she have all these bottles? you ask, I don't know.
"No…am…fi….fi…fine," he croaked nervously,
I giggled,
Once I did that, his face immediately hardened once again and the bully I know returned. He grumbled, "What are you laughing at pipsqueak?"
I shrugged. I said, "Nothing man."
He moved closer to me and tapped my chest with his finger. "Listen pipsqueak. Only I-is-allowed-to-laugh," he made it very specific my tapping my chest harder with each word,
"Yes, sir," I mumbled staring straight at his brown eyes.
He smirked, "Glad to see we are on the same page," he turned his attention back to Tessa.
"No sweetheart, the first match hasn't started yet, the coach is still going through the lists," Kowalski answered her question.
I hated him so bad and four months without him bothering me were heaven to me. And I had way too much on the line if we don't win this.
The door creaked as it opened halfway and a familiar face appeared. It was William from Tlavacus, I thought he was dead because the last time heard he was in a bad shape. But he looked very fine with his goofy and unserious face.
"Okay your bracelets will be set to combat mode and you will be authorized to use attack types of magic," he mentioned while tapping on his tablet.
All our bracelets chimed once he was done.
He glanced at me and Celeste then nodded briefly probably greeting us,
"First Match will be Rebekah Andrews against Beatrix Terra," he announced "match begins in five minutes. Good luck," he said, then shut the door and left.
Rebekah was in the back still drinking. She hadn't even heard her name, I was starting to see what her brother meant when he said she's not herself when not sober.
"Rebekah, you're first," I said glancing at her,
"I am…" she sounded surprised considering the fact she was as drunk as f**k,
She tried sauntering but instead staggered forward before she fell in my arms, she couldn't keep her balance.
"I guwt dis," she groaned.
I was worried, I asked, "Are you sure?" we were face to face. Her eyes flickered gold and she was able to recover her balance.
"Yes," she said with a confident tone in her voice.
I let her go and she stood straight. There was a smile on her face like I was now looking at a different person.
"Don't worry guys I won't lose,"
With that, she left the room and led herself to her fight.
A holographic display appeared and it was showing us what was happening in the battleground.
Both Beatrix and Rebekah walked from opposite sides of the arena and faced each other.
The crowd seemed to cheer even louder for Beatrix, she must've been popular.
"The first Match will now begin, Beatrix Verses Rebekah," We heard,
The crowds even cheered louder.
The crowd then came down and the match began. The bell was sounded,
"Hi, am Rebekah…"
"I know…"Beatrix answered flatly,
Rebekah smirked. Then quickly turned serious, "Good, I just wanted you to remember the name of the girl who kicked your ass,"
She then spread her arms apart and formed two flaming swords one on each hand. A sword art I was familiar with. The flaming swordsman.
The crowd cheered for her after seeing that. She looked incredible.
Beatrix smiled and produced a pistol and pointed it at Rebekah. Guns versus swords, I think it's pretty obvious when you look at it.
Well, I was wrong. Because it didn't take long for me to get amazed by Rebekah's moves. She attacked first. She was moving at lightning speed. I could almost compare it to Celeste's.
"That's why I picked Rebekah to be part of our group," Kowalski stated proudly while staring at the hologram. "She can only do fire magic and that makes her perfect for combat. In her previous school, they call her the hell queen because of her powers."
I was so focused on Rebekah and Beatrix….
Beatrix fired a full round of magical bullets that Rebekah simply cut through using her swords. She continued that till she was close enough to perform her fire spell.
I didn't see her cast a magic circle
But Rebekah's hands were now on fire. She then clenched her fist and smacked Beatrix with a flaming punch straight in the gut.
The punch's impact had been weakened by Beatrix's shield so she didn't pass out but the punch was still strong enough to send her flying a few meters before gaining her balance.
Rebekah didn't bother to wait for her opponent. She quickly created multiple fireballs that she launched continuously at Beatrix.
The impacts made the arena rumble as if an earthquake had happened and that only made us even more excited
