Chereads / Cursed: Into the darkeness / Chapter 35 - The Cold Truth about my Kind

Chapter 35 - The Cold Truth about my Kind

I woke up in a room.

"So, you finally awake," Celeste was standing just next to me with Atreigon. She didn't look happy at all.

"You went through my memories without my consent," I grumbled, I was scared of the possibility that she had seen all of what I have been up to.

"You were slipping between realities, I had to do something, and by something I had to inject venom into your body."

I hoisted myself off the bed to get a clear look at her. Her face was red from anger. "You were looking for the oracle, do you know how much you risking because you want to know your destiny? There is a reason why we are not supposed to know our futures, Ralph."

I stood and faced her.

"I am just tired of knowing part of the story. I want to know the whole truth. About my bloodline, and why all this is happening to me?"

Celeste winced, "You are a member of the Elven bloodline. A race of supernaturals that existed before me. They were proud magic users who were so good at it that without them, we couldn't have won the war against the first evil god to come to this world. But after the war the elves tampered with powers they shouldn't have tampered with, these powers were a fragment of evil gods' essence. The elves were corrupted, and they gave our secrets to the humans who called themselves the children of iron, the world's first supernatural hunters, who killed thousands of supernatural beings,"

"The power that corrupted the elves started corrupting magic itself and gave birth to the dark elves or as we call them the curse-bearers. They were powerful, powerful enough to kill their progenitor. The ones before me hunted down the curse bearers one by one until they were no more in this world. They also did the same for the children of iron. And that is where my father found me and made me a vampire and later his wife made me a progenitor."

'A curse bearer' I said inwardly,

"How come I am alive and am a curse bearer?

"I have no idea," she answered,

I was so confused, but am the one who asked for it.

"Children of iron is Tessa…."

"Yes, she is, and I must exact revenge for those who died at their hands,"

"You can't do that. What if she doesn't know that she's a hunter. You can't punish someone for a crime their ancestors did," I argued,

"Says coming from a descendant of a race that started all of it. Ralph, the world has always been shit from the very start. Sandra thought she could change it and where is she now? Probably somewhere in the afterlife dead!" she yelled at me, then sadly faced the floor.

I noticed the drops of tears that were landing on the wooden floor.

I didn't know what to say.

"Sandra was my best friend," she croaked. She was using a very sad tone and she now sounded like a child.

She sniffed, "She met the oracle and learned that in the future, all of the progenitors will be dead at the hands of a very dark force. So she made the knights, but they weren't enough to fight the wars to come. So she came to this so that she could maybe find a different way out of this coming doom. Now she's dead because of me If I helped her then maybe…"

She had finally turned vulnerable. I couldn't believe she was opening up.

I felt bad. No, I felt terrible all along they were trying to protect me from knowing the past of my kind and I was selfish enough to risk everyone else.

I moved closer to her and then hugged her forget. I said, "It wasn't your fault. She came here so that she could save both worlds. It's up to us to make sure that happens,"

She also wrapped her arms around me. I could feel her heartbeat pounding from her chest, her body temperature was even higher.

"When they banished the elves. The elves were scared that will carry on the dark elf curse so they asked the demon lord of that time to rid them of their Elven ties, hence the elves became humans, that is all I know," she added.

I sighed, "It's okay, we will worry about that later. But I can't let you kill an innocent human,"

"But her blood, it reeks. I can't resist the desire to kill," she said quietly as she squeezed my sweater shirt.

"Cough, cough,"

That's when I remembered we weren't the only ones in the room. Atreigon was also here as a phoenix. And he was a bit bigger than before.

"Am sorry to interrupt, but you can't kill the girl,"

"Why?" Celeste rushed to ask,

"Because the runes that you saw in his vision can only be interrupted by a child of iron. I wasn't around that era, but I was able to identify those same runes on the girl's quiver using his memories," Atreigon said,

After he said that, I remembered why I was here in the first place: the visions and the sudden death of Dante.

"Oh no, Dante, how long have I been out?"

I was waiting to hear, days, weeks, months.

"You've only been out for a few hours," Celeste said, "After the announcement, The cities were put on lockdown for an investigation to be carried out. No one can get in or out."

That made a lot of sense. I asked, "Do they have an idea on who's behind this?"

"It's the demon lord," she answered skeptically. Then she grabbed my arm. "You saw a holy relic, didn't you?"

"Yes, I was able to see the crown. It's in the dark realm, hidden in a cave marked with runes of a language I cannot understand," I answered.

I examined the room we were in and it wasn't my room. It looked more like the place I woke up in back in Tlavacus before my death. the walls looked ancient and at the same time so classy, a place where a madly rich idiot would buy and stay in just because he can.

I bothered to ask, "Where are we?"

"We are in the Drake mansion. It was the only place closest to school that I could bring you to without raising any suspicions," Celeste answered using a kind tone.

I remembered the Drake mansion. It was the one with the D at the gate, Sandra's home that was down on Hallow hill.

"Now let's head downstairs, everyone is ready to hear what you have to say."

"Everyone?"

"Yes.." she said,

She pulled my arm with force then we both stormed out of the room to a corridor, and finally downstairs.

I heard chattering and bickering coming from a room that we were both charging towards. She pushed the huge wooden doors and we stepped into what looked like a meeting.

Everyone was here. William, Miss Eloise, Ned, Nancy, Petra, Kirk, and a beautiful white woman are standing next to them. She was looking at me with her purple hypnotic eyes. I felt like I have seen her somewhere before.

The chattering stopped when they all noticed Celeste was in the room.

William and the rest except the woman bowed to her like she was royal. Wait, I had forgotten that Celeste is royalty. They aren't allowed even to mention her name.

"My lords," William announced. He said in a serious tone and why did he say lords, as in many? didn't that mean that the woman was also a progenitor or he's referring to me?

Celeste approved them and bowed back.

'Good to see you again, Annabel," Celeste said to the woman who was standing. "I see you got my message."

The woman chuckled, "Of course I did, I am the type that believes after seeing," she gave me that glare once again. "And it seems like you weren't lying when you mentioned; it's complicated in your letter," she said,

She was smartly dressed in a navy blue suit and high heels. She had her hair twisted into dreads that made her look a bit younger. She looked around in her late twenties with the biggest boobs I have ever seen on a woman. She was everything a man would want in a woman.

"Yes, this is Ralph, the current fey progenitor," Celeste continued. "And Ralph, this is Annabel the only progenitor who might be okay with the fact that you are human."

Annabel examined me with her eyes and said, "He's so young, how old are you?"

"Um…sixteen," I answered quietly, I was beginning to feel embarrassed that am like a baby to everyone in this room.

Annabel burst into laughter, "Sandra choose a sixteen-year-old. Wow, I knew she had many good ideas, but am starting to have my doubts on this one."

Celeste snarled and Annabel stopped laughing, "Enough! Annabel. I know you witches love to be wicked, but not now. We are here for urgent matters."

Annabel scoffed like a child who had been told to go to her room. "Hmph, fine," she snorted. "The knights have filled me in about the sudden death of the minister. And good riddance, he has always been an arrogant man."

"Did you search for his soul to find out who killed him?" Celeste asked,

"I already did,"

"And?"

"I couldn't find it. Whatever killed Dante O' Folio consumed his soul once it was done," Annabel said. "This was the work of magic I have never seen or heard of, and am supposed to be the greatest magic user that has ever lived."

"What could the demon lord want from doing all this?" William questioned,

"He wants to destroy the protectors," I blurted, "the demon lord and the gods have one thing in common they want the world and they can't have it if its protectors still walk the earth. I think that is their plan."

"Explains the overpowered new humans," William added, "we've discovered that the effect the demon lord's blood has on the supernatural is ten times more effective on new humans. They become stronger, more agile, faster with enhanced magical capabilities like the red witch,"

There was a wry look on Celeste after he mentioned her name. they were scared.
