"Dark elves,"
"Yes, that is your species. I was able to scan your bloodline the moment you touched the cover," the book said. It had a calm British voice of a man in his late twenties.
I chuckled softly from suspicion of what the book had just called me. But I only had one night with this book, so I should keep my questions at a minimum.
"What should I call you?"
"I am Lucas, I share the same name as my creator. "it said,
"Was your creator a supernatural?"
"Yes," the book answered. "The master was a member of the iron witches. The humans who forged the holy relics of the dark dimension that lies beyond the mystical realm,"
"The iron witches?" I repeated after the book. "I have never heard of them," I said
"The iron witches were forgotten by time and as we speak they don't exist anymore," the book explained, "They were banished years ago to the dark realm after the war with the supernatural,"
"Why were they banished?"
"The iron witches were the first beings to help summon the evil gods to this realm with the help of mortals of course. They later created their instruments of power and named them after the second most powerful relics to ever be made, they forged them using the hatred they had for the supernatural and humans--
"Well, apart from my master, he saw this was wrong. So he made me and sent me to the human realm to help humans. But by the time I returned, the world of magic was no more,"
'similar to what happened to Atreigon' I thought,
"So does Mr. Klaus know you can do all this?"
"No, my current master sees me as a rare textbook that enlightens him about the mystical world. He sees me as fiction rare than facts, either way if I expose my true abilities he will forget like all the other humans."
That made a lot of sense. Explained why a grown-up was able to hand over a powerful grimoire to a child so easily. Humans of long ago forgot magic because of the curse meaning the book had lost its purpose to help humankind.
But I can change that.
"I need to know about the Oracle," I demanded,
"As you wish,"
The book's pages flipped. There was a bright golden light before it stopped on a specific blank page.
Words started to write themselves down in black ink.
"The oracle is known as one of the maidens of time. She can tell the future but can't change it, she is a spirit that walks within both the mortal and supernatural planes," the book explained as it displayed a picture of the oracle.
It looked nothing like a woman in a wedding dress. More like a mummy in a widow's dress. Just looking at the picture gave me chills, I could hear the wind hissing the longer I looked at it.
"Ralph Tally speak to me….." it said,
Knock..knock!
I gasped returning from the trance.
Someone was at the door. I closed the book and covered it with my school coat.
I opened the door. It was Celeste. She looked angry and was holding a blood sack in her hand. "I sensed something and was wondering if you felt it too," she said, something was off she usually just barges in.
"No…no…I sensed nothing," I lied,
She raised herself on her toes and tried to peep over my shoulder to see what was going on in my room. She wasn't buying my lie. I expected something like that from her.
"So, you are ready for the qualifier matches tomorrow?" I rushed to change the topic.
"Huh?" she faced me, "yeah, that's why am taking some good fresh human blood since fresh new human blood might probably kill me," she said with a rather awkward grin on her face. Did she notice I was trying to change the conversation?
"I just hope you are not trying something stupid," she said then turned away and left.
I closed the door. I forced myself to take in a deep breath.
If I find the oracle then I will know my destiny. But what if my destiny is bad news? What if I endanger everyone around me when I discover my destiny.
I scratched my head, trying to generate a good idea.
'Sandra I wish you were here,' I thought staring at the book.
I moved carefully to the table and pulled off the jacket. I opened the book. I hope I have made the right choice.
I got up the courage to ask, "Where can I find the Oracle?"
There was an odd presence in the room after saying that. "Are you sure you want this? There is a reason why one must not know their future," the book warned me.
"I am sure,"
After answering, there was a strong hiss in the wind that forced me to cover my ears.
The pages finally rewrote themselves into words. It said,
'to find the maiden of the future one must first cross the bridge that connects the future and the past'
I didn't understand what that meant,
The words changed once again, and it read; 'The bridge can only be found using an ancient time spell known as the Kronos spell'
The page turned blank and the book shut itself closed.
"You only had three questions," it said,
"Wait, I don't know what is a Kronos spell…."
The book stopped glowing. My time was up.
I opened the book and it was now just blank pages.
"Dang it!" I cursed pushing it off the table. I needed to know my destiny one way or another. Why am I part of all this crap? Why the term dark Elf?
"And who the fuck is Kronos?" I screamed at myself and my reading light exploded.
My eyes got wide. I was stunned, I had forgotten how much magic and emotion move together.
"Kronos was the titan god of time," I remembered,
"But what is the Kronos spell?" I sighed staring at the book,
'The Kronos spell is an ancient black magic spell that allows the user to tamper with the very fabric of time, reality, and space similar to the titan's power.' Atreigon answered after flying in,
I was surprised to see him, but it seemed he didn't care about the book.
"Black magic huh…" I said inwardly. I then grabbed my tablet and started searching for an ancient black magic spell, I scanned through the results and there was no connection to time magic. Just stuff like space travel, and weather manipulation using black magic.
'I don't see it,' I then remembered that time magic is forbidden. It couldn't be on the internet.
'Can you teach me the Kronos spell?' I asked him telepathically,
"The spell requires a magical charge of 100% to work. You don't have enough magical energy to charge the spell,"
I couldn't doubt that. The magical charge was a very crucial thing when doing heavy magic spells. When you cast a magic circle for a specific spell, the human body exerts a certain amount to charge that spell. The higher the charge the more effective the spell is. The most powerful spells usually stop at 70%. but this was too high, 100% was impossible.
I sighed, "Fine."
I tossed myself on my bed. It was late, you can imagine how fast time moved when you are talking to a book.
"Master, messing with time and space isn't a good idea," Atreigon warned,
I said nothing.
I started yawning and eventually, I was taken over by sleep.
That night, I had a dream.
I was standing in the middle of an empty street. The sky was red and everything around me was in ruins. I could hear the screams of people as debris fell from the sky and crashed into homes and buildings. Everything was pure chaos.
From behind, I heard a loud explosion followed by a strong blast of dust and wind. I turned and closed my eyes to protect them from the dust.
Once the wind stopped. I opened my eyes, and I was terrified by what I saw. I took a few steps back.
"It's not real," I told myself,
I was staring at a line made from the dead bodies of all my friends and family. Celeste, Rebekah, Ronnie, Sandra, my parents, and the list goes on.
I knew it was a dream, but I couldn't shake the fact that it was too real.
"You…" a familiar voice croaked from behind,
I glanced over my shoulder and it was Terry. His eyes were filled with nothing apart from absolute terror from what was going on. He was shaking and breathing heavily. In his hand, he was holding a gun and pointing it directly at me.
"Te…."
"What have you done?" he cried, tears running down his cheeks like water. He looked injured and needed medical help.
I didn't understand his question till I looked at my hands. They were covered in blood, and so was my uniform. That's when I realized it…
I had killed everyone.
"This is your destiny boy. Darkness, death, and destruction," Terry said. His eyes were now red and he had grown fangs.
He then pressed the trigger and the sound of the gun firing woke me up with a start.
I was back in my room.
My hands couldn't stop shaking. It was so horrifying seeing all that. The voice that spoke wasn't the demon lord, this was something else. Something made from pure evil, I could still sense its poisonous presence on me.
A presence that felt so familiar. But from where?
