LATER THAT EVENING…I just couldn't I believe had almost lost my sister that day, after Celeste killed her fellow vampires. She vanished and I don't care where she is. Ronnie had gone to sleep and lucky for me she had forgotten all that had happened with the evening. I had been injured by the blue-haired boy but I was fine now thanks to my healing abilities.
Right now I was looking at a huge textbook labeled: THE HISTORY OF MAGIC that was based on the events and theories behind the phenomenon of new humans. You can wonder how humans were able to figure out all that and manage to put it all in thousand paged books.
"Master, what are you reading?" Atreigon asked while crawling out from under my bed.
"No need for formality Atreigon. You can call me Ralph, and what the hell…."
I stopped when I saw he had taken on the form of a red cat.
"Is something wrong? Don't you like this disguise?" he asked while wiggling his tail, "I have read that humans like cats, Does that mean you don't like me, Master?"
"You can read?!" I was surprised
"Of course, I can read, I am Atreigon the great phoenix, books are nothing when it comes to my brain," he laughed proudly. And I just couldn't get enough of this Phoenix's pride, he would laugh each time he mentioned his name and would always add the term great to it like some royal bird,
"Okay, great bird," I chuckled. "I am reading about the two cities of Mayfair and Pretoria, how they were built and constructed," I said pointing at the page.
Atreigon jumped from the carpet and onto the reading table and started reading through my textbook," Master," he sounded emotional after seeing some images in the book,"
"Yes?"
"Have you ever seen what's beyond Mayfair and Pretoria?"
To be honest I didn't know how to answer that question, because after what I had seen in Salem, the whole place looked like a zombie apocalypse happened there. My memories of the outside world were very blurry because I was just six when magic came to this world, no one even knows when it fully came but it was like the entire world just chose to respond to it ten years ago. A person could just be in bed and start floating or be at a party and teleport to a supermarket.
But I remembered one thing though, I remembered how green the world was. My mom would take me to the countryside every weekend to go see my grandparents and I would go through the best experiences of my life. The feeling of walking in green grass barefooted with the sun kissing my face and wind blowing my very shabby white hair was the feeling I missed.
I faced Atreigon who was waiting for my answer, I said, "Honestly, I don't know Atreigon, all I know are the rules I am to follow if am to ever go out there,"
"Rules rules…" he growled, "Humans and rules, why do you even have rules?"
"To protect us Atreigon," I said
"From what?"
I said nothing, I just gave him the stop asking me questions look of death.
Celeste suddenly materialized on my bed. And she almost made my heart jump out when I saw the blood on her face.
"It's so cute seeing humans read about magic," she said.
Atreigon the very great Phoenix was the one who disappeared first just after seeing Celeste appear, some friend he is.
"W--Why are you back?" I stammered. "I thought we found your vampires!"
She sighed, "We did, but things have gotten a bit complicated."
How complicated?
"People will die kind of complicated. You help I will tell you about your power, and I will add more days to our little deal," she smiled and I don't know why I had a feeling that this was going to be very dangerous, but the offer was tempting.
"Okay, what do you need?"I asked turning away from my books,
She tilted her head and gave me a lazy stare, "I need somewhere to sleep, and a travel buddy to Pretoria,"
I don't know what to react to, Pretoria buddy or the fact that a pretty girl, who looks like a child wants to sleep in my bed. At night.
Calm down Ralph, you've got this, I thought.
"I also need to shower," and she said it, the most terrifying sentence in my entire life.
I didn't say anything but pointed in the direction of the bathroom, and then she just left.
For your information I am not a pervert, I like girls, no, I love girls. But I avoid girls because I can get creepy sometimes, creepy in a perverted kind of way. That is why I don't usually hang out with girls, and yes, the first time I learned about all the progenitors being women, I was excited, but I remembered they are all century-plus years old, which is a definite red flag. Unless they all look like Celeste or Sandra.
In the morning I didn't bother changing into my uniform, I was skipping school for today, if my parents ever find out about my skipping I will be in trouble so I faked a sickness. New humans don't usually get sick but we have diseases that still get us I won't mention them but you should think about which ones are those that evolved along with us. Last night didn't go well for me because I had to sleep on the floor as Celeste slept on my bed, it's called being a gentleman and fear of dying at sixteen. So my back was paining a bit from the uncomfortable night on the floor.
She said that we are going on a hunt for a vampire called Veronica who wants to sacrifice fifty new humans to open a gate to the dark dimension, she didn't tell me why, maybe she had her reasons. But she did tell me why she came to me for help because I know the human world and I am the only human she knows that isn't dead.
"Are you ready?" she asked the moment she saw me taking off my bracelet. I walked up to her and she grabbed onto my arm.
"Yes," I answered,
She then teleported the both of us to a trading center. Everyone was yelling out prices and they were too busy t notice that two people had just appeared from nowhere. Pretoria was a crowded city since most new humans and some Fey stayed here hidden among humans, like Nana who sold to us the phoenix she was a fairy.
"Let's go," she said while she shoved through the crowd of people that had also come to the market center, I bet she chose this location because she thought this is a place where a vampire would collect some good fifty new humans. Why not parties, or even a school?
I followed Celeste to an abandoned warehouse across the street from the market center, the entrance was chained and locked at the same time but she simply yanked the lock open, broke the chains, and kicked the door open like a total badass, all I did was observe the level of awesomeness happening just in front of me.
"Veronica," she called and her voice echoed throughout the entire building. "I know you are here, and by the way, this is your progenitor speaking. I advise you to show yourself before I find you myself."
I could tell she meant every single word she said.
A woman's voice snarled from all directions," I don't care, you progenitors think you own our home, but you don't." the final screech from her voice came from up, Veronica was hanging from the ceiling. Her eyes were red and cold, with long hair that was shaped like seaweed. She had blood on her mouth and I could tell she was just from feeding. she then jumped from the ceiling, Celeste moved with lightning swiftness by stepping out of the way, then she struck a blow into Veronica's chest, she was pushed back a bit instead of flying or exploding. She wasn't like the two vampires back at my place, this one was now faster with her veins popping out of her skin.
She advanced but Celeste simply stopped her in the air using her Jedi powers, then pushed her into a wall.
"Veronica this isn't you," she said with a small sound of pity, "you of all people should know that we can't drink blood from new humans, it makes us crazy."
None of that mattered to Veronica she was beginning to look more and more like a zombie vampire, with cracks growing around her eyes and her skin becoming grey. Which was horrifying to watch by the way.
She broke free of Celeste's power and then ran towards her on her fours, she opened her mouth wide like she was aiming at biting Celeste, but when she flung herself on top of her. She made a silver blade appear in her hand and then drove it through Veronica's chest.
Tears started to run down Celeste's face before she kicked Veronica's lifeless body off her and it vanished instantly. She was feeling terrible about killing her kind. She gritted her teeth and yowled with a high-pitched cry that shattered all the windows of the warehouse.
I suddenly heard sniffing coming from behind a pillar that was on the further end of the warehouse.
'--help me--'
"--I don't want to die--" I heard whispers, I could tell it was a girl and she sounded so terrified
