Chapter 3 - Battle with Cerberus

Crash

Sounds of bones being broken were heard but I was not dead or felt that the crushing bones were mine. I slowly opened my eyes and was shocked to see mountains of crushed and powdered bones surrounding me while I am still alive.

"Little one, are you alright?" a strange hoarse voice sounded behind me as I slowly turned over to see who was it that saved me. When I saw the ragged robe of Black old radiant church and the unique light yellowish soul flame burning brightly in his eye sockets, a great amount of relief washed over me like a ten-thousand-year-old wish from my ancestor has been fulfilled.

"Found you" as I broke down and fainted.

[Rupert's Point of View]

"I found you," said the strange woman as she collapses to the ground from exhaustion.

As soon as she collapsed to the ground, Cerberus stopped attacking her and has all 3 heads and 6 eyes staring daggers at me.

Cerberus, the 5 meters tall, 3 headed hound jet black that guards the core region of this land against outsiders and weaker dark beasts that has yet to break out of the cycle of slaughter and massacre.

"Lich! You dare touch my delicacy!" growled Cerberus unhappy with my interference from his rare meat, humans, especially one so pure. Since not many can reach this deep into the land more so entering this land after all it now only appears once a year.

Despite the loud growl from Cerberus, the girl did not wake up, looking at her, I took a large worn-out cloth out from my bindle and lay it underneath her before looking up at Cerberus.

"She's mine" looking coldly back at him.

"Lich! You better not push it too far! She wandered on MY turf means she's, MY PREY!" It was true, there was a rule here that we are not allowed to snatch prey from another's territory. However, in the land of the Unholy, Might makes Right, in fact, the world operates in this manner.

Since I am stronger than Cerberus, I can fight with him for prey, and he knows it very well since he does that often.

"Well too bad, she's mine, if you dare take her away from me, let's see if you have improved since we last met," I said in an indomitable tone, a tone which I recently been using a lot since I became a lich. "Or are you going to go back and whine to your master like the little dog you are" as I taunted that boot-licker dog that only knows how to bootlick his master and use his master's name to scare other demon beasts to do his bidding.

"Damn it you lich! Raaa!" as it roared angrily at me clearly hitting the spot before having the left head breathe out a pure purple dark flame in my direction.

"Hmph! Looks like the little guard dog here has managed to improve but I guess too little for me to take you seriously" before walking closer to him preparing an attack since my bones are strong enough to take the hit.

"Mmmm, Nnnn" an almost inaudible sound came from behind me as I stopped in my tracks suddenly remembering about the woman I just saved and decided to put up a barrier just for her safety.

With that, I decided to defend against the first attack by stomping my foot down on the ground creating a defensive spell in front of me to shield the woman and me from the flames.

The moment I stomped, the thick miasma around me gathered as a sixth-class circle appear in front of me condensing the surrounding miasma into a dark purple hemispherical shaped barrier while the raging dark flames devours everything in its path speedily approaching me.

As soon as the barrier was formed, the flames hit it like an egg thrown on a rock. Leaving as soon as it came like it was never there. If it was not for the smoky smell and the underlying evidence of the fire's destructive path, no one would have ever thought that there was a terrifying pure purple dark flame that was released.

"It's my turn now" raising my right hand and snapped my fingers together.

This created a sonic boom that pushed Cerberus away into a distant mountain about a city away at the same time, controlling my powers and ensuring that it does not affect the woman I just saved.

Turning around to make sure that she is safe, I teleported in the distance to where Cerberus was.

"Had enough?" I floated up in the air and stared down at it to show my superiority against him.

With ruffled fur and superficial wounds, Cerberus slowly stood up and glared angrily at me while gritting his 3 sets of teeth "Thank you for your mercy, she's yours to keep"

With that, it trotted back to its lair.

I stared at the defeated Cerberus in the distance before going over to the fainted woman, picking her up and travelling back to the neutral zone. After all, it is not very polite to keep using Cerberus territory, especially after I have wounded its pride.

Placing her on the ground, I stared at her realising that she has sort of a unique beauty within her.

Surprisingly, her body was also filled with scars which add which makes it even odder as using healing magic could even allow scars to disappear, but her wounds seem to have been healed naturally or with herbs.

I stared at her deep in thought about her unique appearance when I realised that she was shivering and tearing from fear and pain in her passed-out state as her body tensed up like a frightened cat while the warmth of her body slowly leaves her.

I frowned deciding to cast a simple diagnostic spell on her just in case to see if there were any problems.

Through my diagnostic spell, it seems that she has consumed a large portion of the miasma while still in her passed-out state, causing negative emotions to be heightened and nightmares to appear.

Knowing that I quickly set up a fifth-class dispel spell on the ground to completely neutralize the miasma within a 10-metre radius between her and me. Next, I used my innate ability to absorb the miasma collected in her body.

The moment the last of the miasma left her body, her tensed body relaxed with a small smile plastered on her face.

Now that I thought about it, how did she even manage to enter this deep when she can't even handle the miasma?

As I brood over the question, my thoughts were interrupted by a familiar shout.
