Chereads / God's Mercenary: Spirit Master / Chapter 2 - The Death

Chapter 2 - The Death

The Death scratched his head as he was surprised to see him, "Hmm, so you don't want to die again yet?"

Alev's spirit body started to frown while his hand touching his waist looked very irritated at the Death's eyes,

"Again? I've only been living in this child's body for six years, and I haven't felt any pleasure with this body at all. Why should I reincarnate again if I haven't even enjoyed life yet." Alev shouted as he cursed The Death.

He looks annoyed at the Death, but this is not the first time Alev died. He repeatedly changed his name because this stupid reincarnation made him forget even his real name before he was in this circle of reincarnation.

Even though he had little memory of the life before that reincarnation, he was a mercenary who was previously shot dead while on duty in Europe. Even if he had a good memory as a soldier, there was no way anyone could recall the past correctly if he kept reincarnating again and again. It is just way too much memory to keep.

It's the same as watching a film cut a quarter of the way and managing a new one. But it's not a memory of mere minutes, like a mere movie. It's years of his life!

Such a hanging feeling made anyone reincarnated seem likely to feel furious because he had repeatedly reincarnated into a newborn baby again!

Bad luck always befalls him, whether dying due to assassination because he was born as a single crowned heir prince in another kingdom or dying eaten by wolves because his parents threw him from the horse-drawn carriage while they ran from the debt collector.

If anyone said living in the Middle Ages was difficult, he would immediately agree with it because he had experienced it, even as what is happening now. His family was expelled from their homeland and faced difficulty surviving in the wild until they finally settled in the village, where eventually, the soldiers burned down the village.

Reincarnated into a different universe with the world's technology looking still out of date, nothing could be worse than that.

The Death looked shriveled and closed his eyes, thinking he would be scolded by him again, but he didn't hear anything from him again, and he nervously tried to peek at him.

"Sigh," Alev sighed as he took a deep breath, holding back his emotions.

"Ermm, but? You just died!" The Death said while his eyes looked around in anxiety.

Alev shook his head, showing disbelief when he heard it.

"Almost!" Alev exclaimed, "Listen! It's already the 15th time I've reincarnated. Did you forget? Before this body, how long have I lived the longest?" Alev asked him while pouting his lips and crossing his arms as he grumbled at him. His eyes glared threateningly.

The Death was afraid to see him in the eyes as he scratched his head, slightly confused, and looked up at the sky, trying to remember in his memory.

"4 years? I guess?" He stuttered, feeling unsure of his answer.

"Then what is the shortest?" Said Alev asked him back with his hands outstretched and pointed at him.

"I think it's 2. It seems…"

The Death's answer sounded so doubtful. Alev looking at him, raised his eyebrows as if asking him to answer that more clearly.

"That's two days." Said the Death mumbled.

"You saw that! None of them have reached adulthood!" Shouted Alev with that previously outstretched hand. He struck the death's head even though it pierced right through him.

He continued, "Those short deaths are from your mistakes. It would be useless if I reincarnated again if the ending was just a short death. You better do something to this body than ask me to be reincarnated again." Said Alev while He pointed towards his body with his thumb.

While confused, the Death moves his head left and right while scratching his chin when he sees Alev's main body.

"Do something like what? Isn't your eyes a miracle from them?" The Death said while squinting back at Alev.

Even so, Alev's eyes weren't that special because they only contained magical energy so that he could be looking in the dark, also far sight, and allowed him to see the flow of magic to help him live in this world. Still, it was useless to Alev for now as it didn't help him much to protect himself or keep him alive.

"Oh, I can take your soul to another body." Said the Death suggested with his innocent looks to him.

"Didn't you hear what I said!" Alev said with his fists clenched, looking ready to hit the Death.

The Death closed his eyes when he saw Alev showing his fist, but Alev just looked silent in that ready-still position.

Alev still held back his anger because he knew doing that would be useless. After all, it only pierced through the Death body if he was still in this state.

"Sigh! This is useless," He sighed for a moment as He lowered his clenched fists.

"You better return my soul to the original world." He said again to the Death.

"Emm!" The Death scratched its head again, "I don't think it can be because it would violate your contract with the gods." The Death said as He popped a scroll in His hand from thin air.

The Death saw the contents of the contract, and miraculously He brought out half glasses with round lenses in His eyes. He paused to read it and showed the contract contents to Alev.

"Look at that! You can only return if you complete the task from the Gods to resolve the troubling irregularities in this world." The Death said as He miraculously removed the contract and glasses.

With wide eyes open, Alev looked at the Death, "I even forgot about the contract because that was a long time ago. Why did I accept that contract in the first place again? Damn, gods! At least give me the power to protect myself like the main characters in comics or novels."

Alev lowered his head, looking down, as he sighed again, feeling regret for doing it.

"Then, how can I solve the problem if I have to start all over again? Return my soul to that body again, immediately!" Alev said while His finger pointed at His main body.

The Death quickly complied with the request, and He inserted Alev's spirit into the main body with His finger pointing at Him.

As Alev's soul reentered the body, Alev was surprised. With a wide mouth open, he took a deep breath. With His tiny body, He tried to free himself from His mother's embrace that fell on His body.

He managed to wake himself up even though His right arm seemed to hang down like a broken bone. He endured the pain with the other hand holding His broken hand.

"Damn Gods! They are Gods or some dark company that recruits innocent people and leaves them alone, with sick pay, while forcing them to work till they die!" Alev said, mumbling to himself.

Alev looks at the crashed wagon and sees people who have been crushed to death or struck by arrows at them. Alev closed His eyes while He shook His head, unable to bear seeing that sight.

He then ducked closer to his mother's fallen face, who was looking sideways.

"Even though I am a reincarnator, you are my mother who gave birth to me in this body. Thank you for protecting me. I'm sorry that I couldn't bury you right away." Said Alev as He closed His mother's eyes.

Alev looked surprised to see the Death standing nearby with a shrinking body as tall as him while also looking at his mom.

"Why are you still here?" Alev said, asking the Death while frowning his head deeply.

The Death glanced back at Alev, "ignore me, for now, I will only observe you. With a body of yours, your life will not be long enough to survive." Said The Death as His lip grins mocked him.

Looking annoyed, Alev looked away, ignoring Him. He examined the corpse bodies one by one. He would keep anything valuable for him to survive, including coins if they had any.

Finally, He found a knife in one of the corpse's bodies. Then He took off a robe from one of them even though it looked difficult because of his tiny body, primarily if he only used one hand.

Using a knife, He tore the robe into a strand of cloth and took a branch about the size of his arm, which he must have used to support his broken arm.

Finished gips his arm, He put on the robe that He tore apart to keep himself warm, and Alev walked out of place with his eyes occasionally glancing at his mother.

"Then what do you want to do now?" The Death said, asking him in full of curiosity

"To the city, do you want me to wait for help that never comes to this place and rots to die? I won't! I'd better move my ass to a safer place." Said Alev while looking at him with a cold gaze.
