Chapter 6 - A Curse

Stood in the nearby tree, Alev scraped again another bark of the tree to put a mark on it while looking at his surroundings feeling suspicious.

'He said he would watch over me, but where is he?' Alev said in his mind as he looked around, searching the Death because he didn't see him nearby.

As Alev walked, occasionally he looked at the ground as his feet removed the fallen leaves, so he could see the grass which might show signs of being passed by someone.

Tina who was behind Alev made him see clearly what Alev was doing so far it looked strange, "why are you always looking down?" Tina said while her hand pinching her lip, looking him with curiosity.

Alev looked at her for a moment, but he didn't say anything to her and went back to what he was doing.

Seeing Alev ignoring her like that made Tina start furrowing her brows and showing her pouty lips with her eyes still staring at Alev who was emitting her annoyance.

Alev's body feels tremble to realize that someone was staring at him so intently like that, Alev glanced at her for a moment and made he realized if that was her staring at him, then he is downing his head and as out of his mouth, "sigh," He let out a long sigh.

Without looking at her, Alev mumbled, "this sucks, if he doesn't answer, he'll probably do that all day long."

"I'm looking for trails to guide me to the city, does that satisfy your curiosity?" He said, while give a sideways glance at her.

As soon as Tina heard that, she seemed to be more relaxed with crossed her arms and tilting her head left and right, thoughtful as she bit her lip.

"Why look for the trail when we know the direction of the city is to the west?" She said with an innocent looks in his eyes.

Suddenly Alev stopped his steps as he heard that and turned to look at her, He started to frown deeply as he turned his face to look at her in surprise.

Tina stopped her steps as Alev saw her like that and quickly backed away, looking uncomfortable because Alev was behaving like that.

Alev wasn't unthinkable about it, it's just that he didn't know the direction to the city because he, was always training at home, didn't look for information like that because he didn't think he needed it, he just looked surprised that the previously whiny girl knew, and that is what Alev needed.

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Said Alev while narrowed his eyes at Tina.

Tina shrugged his shoulder and shook her head, "You didn't ask that, anyway…"

Then She raised her finger pointing at the sky as her eyes also glanced it.

"You see, if there is no sun, that is also one of the reasons why I hide, because there is no sun that shows the cardinal directions." She said with a smug on her face.

She was still crossing her arms and lifting her chin like that, seemed to make Alev see his protruding collarbone and made Alev just look in wonder and shook his head because he wasn't sure it was something the girl should brag about.

Still acting like that made Tina seem like she was waiting for Alev to compliment her, but Alev just stayed silent and repeatedly just blinked at her, Alev's usual looking response made him start to frown.

"Alright, that's really helpful, since I just require a way to get to the city. Even without the sun, I can find the direction of where I should go." Alev answered casually and turned away from him.

Alev approached a tree that looked different from the other trees nearby, it was not very tall but had a fairly wide trunk, it looked like an oak tree that looked young. He watched the tree trunk, to see the direction it was growing.

Then he looked at the bottom of the tree trunk and found moss growing thinly on the left side of the direction he was looking. Meanwhile, Tina who was watching him looked confused by what he was doing.

"What exactly are you looking for?" Tina said, scratching her head, looking confused.

"The moss always grows facing the sun." Said Alev while glancing at him.

Alev turned his head in the direction he should be heading, and he just realized that he had been walking in the southwest direction that was leaning towards the south, even though he had been walking straight ahead predicting the trail, sometimes the forest would be confusing because it was like a maze.

"How did you know that?" She said with raising eyebrows in surprise.

Alev turned to him, and he slowly scratched his head, Alev was confused. Because there was no way he could say that he knew that from his job as a mercenary in the previous world made him learn how to survive in the wild.

"I read it from a book, you know that people who do daily work in the forest do that, and isn't that also common knowledge that country kids like me should know." He said while glancing around, hiding the fact.

"Is that true?" She was pursing his lips and the index finger touching her lips, glancing around him, as she thought about it.

"Is that really a common knowledge about for village children." She said, feeling unsure.

For some reason, when Tina said that, something stuck in Alev's mind, making him speechless thinking about it.

Alev came closer to him, "Why do you say that? Didn't you say you live in the village too?" Alev said while started to frowning at her.

Tina looked left and right, not daring to look Alev in the eye directly, and continue pursed her lips as she played with her fingers in her hands.

Then She waved at him, "Actually, my family hasn't lived in the village for a long time, nor have I ever played outside because of my illness." She said, while still looking away, not daring to look him in his face.

That statement made Alev pay close attention to Tina again, if you look at her thin body it might be true that she has a disease, it's just that it's impossible for a sick person's body to survive walking in the forest and even in this cold air.

"Tch," Alev clicked his tongue, "Can't you lie better?" Alev said while shook his head.

He said that, but actually he wasn't very good at lying to other people either.

"Lie? What do you mean?" Tina said dismissively with her hands waving repeatedly, refusing to admit it.

But Alev's gaze is now starting to see him so sharp by narrowing his eyes like that, because Alev actually thinks that Tina is the Death who might be disguised and bothering him.

"Sigh" Tina sighed as she let out a long breath hearing Alev who realized he was lying like that.

"Do you know curses?" Tina looked down weakly at Alev, "You must have realized that from looking at my thin body, right?" Tina said sullenly.

That suddenly made Alev roll his eyes, looking surprised, as if in his mind he was saying, 'eh?' He was feeling surprised because it wasn't what he expected.
