Chapter 8 - A glimpse of memory

She walks behind him steadily following his pace while her face is showing an uncomfortable feeling, remembering that she did something unpleasant to him by asking a question like before.

She dropped her face with sudden remorse, thinking of something she believed was the main mistake she made.

"Aghhh! I'm dumb. Why am I asking him that question? That must be something that makes him feel gloomy." She mumbled by herself while rubbing her hair in stress.

Right at a moment, Tina thinks Alev's feeling with an uneasy and gloomy character he has is because of the incident he had before… Well, actually that's not true at all, because he has been through 15x more disastrous incidents with different bodies that make him like that right now.

She sees him in front of a tree again, and then he pulls out his knife, making a scratching mark again on the bark of the tree with brute force, he repeatedly thrusts his knife and somehow that makes him like an angry person releasing his tantrum.

"Hiiik! What have I done, he looks scary right now! Is he still in the right state of mind?" She mumbled again while her mind fantasized his face would look like a psychopath who is having fun stabbing that thing.

And someone who she thinks is having fun stabbing that bark of the tree is actually showing a serious face as he makes a scratch into that tree.

'Shitty bark, are the trees in this forest always thick, or are my knives really that bad. Damn, it's hard doing it with my left arm.' He taught in his mind while stressing out making a little scratch on it.

The more he does it, slowly makes him grits his teeth, feeling unpleasant as he remembers how unlucky he is at the moment.

"Why does shit always happen to me? Am I cursed too and that's why I keep reincarnating like that before?" He mumbled and at a moment after a single strike, he gave a sudden silence.

His thoughts blow his mind and give a sudden drop as he is squatting while grabbing his head feeling stressed. He thinks that actually might be true because an odd event always struck him for no reason at all. Even with the denial, his logical thinking somewhat can't compare because of the realization that he is already in a different world.

"Hiiik!" Tina squeals in fear as she sees him giving a sudden drop.

Her feet trembling in weakness while showing an eerie expression on her face. She really doesn't know what really happened to him at the moment, but somewhat she does know if that must be something because of her, and that's slowly even making her feel more worried about him.

She walks slowly, trying to approach him because of her worries. Her arm trembles and, with sweat on her face as she comes closer, tries to pat his shoulder. But she doesn't even have a chance to do that because Alev is aware of his surroundings, and feels a presence trying to approach him.

He quickly grabs her hand and faces him in alert as he doesn't know if that presence comes from her. His narrowed eyes with a frowned face make her tremble in fear because his face shows that he is going to be angry at her.

"Sigh." He exhales, releasing the tension he feels. "What are you doing?" He said while frowning.

"Eh, ah, mmmm, I just wanna." She stuttered, "Ss-sorry. Please forgive me for saying something that made you feel unpleasant." She responded spontaneously while she closed her eyes.

Alev didn't respond quickly, but he just gave a wide-eyed and tilted his head while looking at her because he didn't understand why she apologized like that to him.

"You say what? What do you mean?" He asked in wonder.

She slowly opened her eyes as his voice reached her, she didn't expect that natural sound to come out of his mouth, and even his looks at him were a bit confused looking at her.

She was shocked a bit and didn't know how to respond to that, she was bamboozled at the moment and felt a little anxious to explain it to him. Furthermore, she tries hard thinking to pick a word she wanted to say as she didn't want to make the same mistake once again hurting his feelings.

"Emmm, you know." She stutters while she plays her both index fingers together on her chest. "I mustn't say something to ridicule you like that, and I feel sorry about that, I don't know if a bad thing struck your family and closest people. I'm sorry." She responded softly and pursed his lips, showing the dimple in both of his cheeks while still averting his gaze from him.

"Huh?" He responded sluggishly while raising his eyebrow as he stood up, "that sounds strange you know, do you think I will have a problem with a lil mock of yours? Seriously, I don't!" He said with a serious face.

"But why do you always look so gloomy and then with that serious face like that, you were like someone who always feels so tense up like an old man who doesn't know how to smile you know! I'm just worried seeing that gloomy face you show because of what I say, you know!" She said while pouting his lip and pointing her finger at his face.

"Why do you even care about that?" He responded while crossing his arms.

"Stupid, of course I do! Because you are the closest person I have right now! Even if we recently know each other, we are in the same boat at the moment, and what is wrong with caring for each other as human beings!" She grunted while narrowing her eyes looking a bit closer toward him.

He stood in silence as he heard what she said, and somehow that word came from her mouth making a click in his mind as he remembered a similar conversation like this happened to him before.

A glimpse of memory coming through in his mind, he remembered his life in the previous world when he was still a boy, in his memory, a young girl with a long hair smiled at him with a word coming from her mouth, 'even though we are not related by blood, Is not wrong to care each other right, and don't forget, I'm always one of your cute siblings!'

The moment he remembered that memory made him give a ticklish feeling and loosen up a bit, making him even more relaxed in his posture.

He held his chuckle when clearly seeing Tina it exactly gave a similar vibe to his sister in the previous world, even when she pouted like that when giving a frown to him, it was glad for him to still remember the warmth feeling.

"Sorry, I didn't mean that. So that's why you cared about it and I didn't expect that coming, and to be clear. I'm fine. I think I should be sorry for going too far when saying something like that." He cheered up somehow while giving a positive aura around him.

She doesn't really understand why he gave a sudden change in his mood, but it was enough for her to be satisfied as long as he doesn't feel gloomy again.

"So why do you look so upset and from the beginning you are always stabbing those trees every minute?" She responded curiously as she stared thoughtfully into the scratch mark he made in the tree.

It feels strange for Alev to hear that coming from a village girl who doesn't seem to understand what actually he did right now, but he just doesn't mention it at all, He even properly explains it to her with a stoic face even though it is bothering him a little to explain away to not get lost in the forest.

Her face straightforwardly showing the information she hears is something new for her as she nods in understanding.

"Ah, I see. So what you're doing is making those marks to avoid getting lost in this forest."

"Yep, that was something like that. As you can see, we can't waste time here, the fog will seriously trouble us if it gets thick." He gazed away into his surroundings with squinted eyes looking at the trees around.

He didn't seriously mention it was just for that, but somehow he just feels a strange feeling in this forest at the beginning, it's just like he is always being watched by something around. That's why he is always put on high alert because this forest doesn't seem right for him.

She was looking closer at him with a curious face, wondering what he has been thinking right now.

"You're a bit strange as a person, you know!" She giggled.
