Chapter 29 - The Darkness

The ticking of a clock was the first thing that broke the silence Sybil had been in. The rhythmic tick-tock sound was soothing because it was predictable. She always knew what sound she would hear next in the pattern.

For the first time in a while, she felt at ease. Although she was still in darkness, it felt good to rest and to have nothing but the clock to focus on.

She had been worried about something before the clock joined her darkness, but she couldn’t remember what it was. Whatever she had escaped from, she didn’t want to go back to it.

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock played over and over in her head. She couldn’t say how long the sound had repeated itself for.

But after some time, other sounds joined her darkness. They were muffled, but they were there. Those sounds didn’t have a pattern to them, and they would come and go.
