Alester:
It was with the hope of making things right with Samantha in the morning that allowed Alester to leave.
He was counting on that feeling of calm to stay with him for the rest of the night, or at least until he saw his parents again. Unfortunately, it dissipated as quickly as taking one step out the door.
Liam was standing in the doorway, his back to the door. Alester had to pause mid-step with less than an inch left between him and Liam and pivot to the side in order to avoid crashing into the burling wall of human flesh.
As Alester stepped next to Liam he opened his mouth to ask what in the world he thought he was doing standing right in front of Samantha's door but Liam's countenance left him without words.
Liam's eyelids drooped as if they had gained twice their weight since the afternoon and his shoulder's told a similar tale. He looked like death: as if Liam and Samantha had traded complexions.
