ALESTER:
The color swatches were right in front of him, but Alester couldn't focus. Instead, his mind was trapped in Samantha's room, a flight of stairs and a hallway away.
He was fixated on the conversation he had with Liam, just hours earlier. The first and hopefully last real conversation they were going to have.
Alester had been sitting in the chair and holding Samantha's hand. It was getting close to lunchtime when Liam walked in.
"What are you doing here?" Alester hissed, his voice barely above a whisper.
"You can speak at normal volume." Liam ran his hand through his hair and sighed.
"She won't wake up for a while, and I could ask the same about you." Liam answered, his shoulders slumped.
"Samantha is my guest, and this is my house. I don't need to answer any further. But you, I didn't even know you existed until this morning, let alone what you are doing in my house or why you are now in my guest's room."
