Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Being Kind?

"Hello sir? It's really nice to meet you so let's get down to business, shall we?" I politely said with a smile while staring at the person in front of me

"So the rumors are true that the famous Iron Lady would never spare a glance for a mere businessman like me" The man jokingly said with a half of seriousness in his tone

"Well money can just disappear just fast as a minute so make sure to make more just by a second" I replied earning a small chuckle from him

"I like woman like you independent, wise and straightforward" He said with a huge grin on his old wrinkled face

I frowned then crossed my arms not liking his comment "Sorry, I don't really need a sugar daddy" I stated while staring at my nails

He then started laughing his voice was beaming at the restaurant. None of the other customers really cared since they have their own business that they should attend

"Well I'm more interested of how you will use the money that I would invest to your company" he then changed the subject to relieve the awkward tension between the two of us

"Well I promise everything will be worth it since I will handle it, what more could you ask for?" I said with a smile

"Well then shall we sign the contract?" he asked while he took his  expensive fountain pen

"Of course Mr. Ellis" I searched for my bag and took a folder I carefully placed it on the table as if, it was the most important thing right now which it is. I opened it revealing a contract

He then signed his signature on the paper. I then took the folder and checked the contents of the contract. I smiled then closed it and placed it on my suitcase

"Then it's a deal" Mr. Ellis said then extended his hand for me to shake

I stood up then accepted it and gave him a big smile

"I'm looking forward working with you Mr. Ellis" I gleefully stated

"You too Ms. Herman this project has great potential"

"Thank you very much for the support. Especially for the extend of our success and increase of interest for both companies"

~

"Cheers!! On the success partnerships with Mr. Ellis" one of my co workers yelled while holding the beer in his hands

The others then followed his own actions and raised their glasses in the air

"Wait!" all then suddenly stopped and focused their attention to the owner of the voice

"Don't forget that this success was all because of our great and amazing boss" he said then directly stared at the direction where I was

I gracefully held my glass of wine and stared at them with a blank stare

"A few words from our star player?" he asked, every body's eyes was on me anticipation filled the room

Then rolled my eyes "You do know that this is just the first step of our success we still haven't made our result so we should probably work harder than before?"

All of them had now a frown on their face. A smirk formed at the side of my lips

"But what's wrong with celebrating to inspire everyone to work harder than before? Am I right? Then toast for our next project!" I raise my glass of wine then elegantly took a sip

Everyone beamed then drank their own alcoholic drink

I simply sat at my chair gazed at my colleagues who are having a time of their life

Well this is starting to have a great start to my career

I had proud smile on my face

~

"The collaboration with Mr. Ellis and Ying company was a success" my father said in the dinner table while eating his own food

"Thank you Father" I said

"What are you thankful for? I wasn't even complimenting you back in the day I had much more successful projects than you so you should do better than me. I can't believe that this is something you would present to me or simply be proud of"

"I promise to do better for now" I said with a blank tone while I gently cut the steak in my plate

Suddenly Father hit the table it echoed at the spacious dining area despite that me and my mother didn't flinch a single muscle

"You always say that every single

time but what do you give me? Disappointment. I'm always dissatisfied with your work" he said then stood up from his chair. He took a few steps away from us

"But yet your still proud at Stacy no matter what she does" I mumbled then took a bite a piece of my steak. He instantly turned his gaze toward me

"What did you just say?" he asked

"I was asking if how is Jane? I haven't heard about my dear sister in a while?" I lied with a fake smile

I heard him scoff and took his coat

"You don't have to show that facade whenever we talk about her. I know how much you despise her so, please stop acting kind as if it's on your nature. It doesn't suit your style" he said giving me an indifferent expression

"Well you do have a point" I said while giving him a smirk then took a sip glass of water

"Tch" he scoffed and glared at me as if I was something abominable. He stared at his watch looking at the time. His eyes widen looking at the clock

He then left the dining area in a rush leaving me in a silent room. His dinner was already getting cold

I eyed at him in suspiciously. It was a Saturday night. I'm sure he doesn't have scheduled in weekends but I immediately shrugged it of

I don't really care about any of his personal business. I force myself a laugh a thought struck out my mind and scoffed

I stared at the chandelier tattered across the ceiling which was beautiful but yet so lonesome. Eating in a luxurious house with a feast that fills an empty stomach but not the emptiness of the void

A small chuckle left my lips

"Being kind? It doesn't suits him as well either"
