Chapter 9 - Strange taste of the tick

The Lord retired to his room after putting Luna back to bed as it was still early to be awake.

After Luna had shed some more tears in his embrace she had fallen asleep still in his embrace.

Nicholas had sat still for several hours, afraid that his slightest movement would wake the girl on him up.

When he was certain Luna was in deep slumber he had placed her carefully on the bed.

He had waited for half a minute to make sure she wouldn't wake up before he left her room to continue with the work he had.

"I see you've been busy." Lucas grinned when he saw his brother closing Luna's door ever so quietly.

"Don't you have someone else to mess with? Where is Abigail?" The lord asked because Lucas was fond of getting under the skin of the young assassin.

Lucas shrugged,

"She went to check something, of someone" Lucas said the latter under his breath but his brother didn't miss his words and the slight envy behind hus brother's voice.

"Maybe she would like you more if you stop annoying her so much" The Lord gav his brother a piece of advice only to see him grin.

Lucas walked aimlessly through the slightly dark corridors with his hands in his pocket.

He would have considered his brother's advice but he found no joy in doing what his brother told.

He had been less bored in the mansion ever since Abigail had tried to assassinate his brother.

Lucas paused when he came upon a door. Hus hand held the knob of the door before letting it go. He stared at the door that led to Abigail's room before trying to open it only to realize it was locked.

The corner of Lucas' lip pulled up. He went outside the mansion before he bagan climbing up, heading to Abigail's balcony.

He placed his shoe on the railings of Abi's balcony sitting on it like a cat.

He took in a deep breath of the air that smelt like Abigail.

Abigail made sure the hood covered her face completely, walking in the empty and quiet street of the town the Lord's mansion was in.

Trying to enter the mansion undetected, she cursed when the gates a creaked.

Even though it wasn't too loud she knew that someone would probably know about her arrival.

The Lord mansion was filled with creatures that had excellent hearing abilities.

Abigail climbed her way up to the balcony of her room. Being a former assassin, things like these she did with ease.

When she was about to remove her cloak after successfully entering her room through the balcony she hears a voice behind her.

"Is something wrong with your door that you had to use the balcony?" Lucas stepped out of the shadows.

Abigail let out a tired sigh. And here she thought she would have some time to rest before the sun would rise up.

"Don't you have a room of your own, Lucas?" She stared at Lucas, where half of his face was hidden in the shadows making him look mysterious.

Lucas smiled, one that he did when he was about to annoy her.

"I find yours much more comfortable."

"What do you want?" Abi asked placing the cloak on the hanger in her room.

"I missed you." Lucas said to hear her let out a sigh of frustration.

"Let me sleep, Lucas. Please!" She added when he didn't budge.

"I'm not stopping you. You can sleep all you want." Lucas faked a yawn,"I'm tired too. We could both sleep." He said straining of the word sleep like he mearnt something else.

Abigail stared at Lucas with a baffled expression when he layed on her bed.

She knew that if she was to ague with the man that was comfortably sleeping in her bed, she would be sleep derived by morning.

Lucas smiled when Abigail came to lay on the bed but the smile dropped when she rolled to the far end of the wide bed.

"Goodnight." She said sensing his displeasure.

"How was your sleep?" Lucas asked once he noticed the rhythm of her heart beat changed.

"Surprisingly pleasant." She murmured.

"Tea?" Lucas asked to which she shook her head.

Lucas stayed in Abigail's room through out the time she was brushing and washing her face. He only left after she begged him to, saying she had to bath.

Michael knocked the door to lady Abigail's room and was a little taken aback to see master Lucas open the door for him.

Hus eyes shifted from the young master to the lady who had a frustrated look on her face.

He like the others have noticed how the young master had been sticking to the lady like some sort of tick.

But unlike other ticks that were more concerned about consuming blood, the young master was more focused on draining the lady of her sanity and they(the butler and other servants.) could only shake their heads feeling pity for the miss.

"Michel could you please get me some more logs? The nugh was colder than usual." Abigail said slightly hugging herself.

"You should have hugged me. We did share the same bed." Lucas said with utmost seriousness.

Abi rolled her eyes, wondering why this devil was so intent on disturbing her.

The butler bowed his head and quickly left, not wanting to be caught up in the issues of the young master and the miss.

Luna stared at the ceiling lost in thoughts.

Even though her mind was filed with sleep at that time she was sure that the lord had been into her room last night.

She could remember how warm she felt in his embrace.

Not wanting the butler to trouble himself by coming all the way up to call her for breakfast, Luna quickly got up and bath before slipping into one of the dresses they had stored for the guests.

When Luna came down for breakfast she noticed that most of the guests who had stayed behind were already sitted and conversing with each other.

The room went silent, as the guest stared at Luna until she took her seat next to Gina.

"I hope the cold night didn't bother you." Lucas said staring at Luna across the table.

Luna shook her head,"It was warm enough." She glanced at the lord who was speaking to a man next to him.

When Luna turned her gaze from the lord she caught Lucas staring at her.

He gave her a knowing smile when their eyes met.

"How about yourself?" She asked him as it would be rude to not return the question.

"It was very warm." Lucas leaned forward as if he was about to let her in on a secret even though his voice was loud and clear to everyone at the table.

"I had good company" he jerked his head to the side.

It was then that she noticed the blue eyed woman sitting beside Lucas.

Her blond hair was tied in a high pony with her pink lips set in a thin line as she glared at Lucas.

But when her eyes met Luna's she offered her a smile.

"I'm Abigail." She introduced herself to Luna.

Luan returned the smile before telling her name.

Abigail had been so glad when she noticed that Lucas was already sitted.

She had made sure to pick the seat furthest to him but the shameless man had left his place and had shooed one of the guests to only sit by her.

She had noticed the amount of brows that had raised because of Lucas' action and it had only annoyed her.

One thing she didn't want was the attention Lucas was so generously giving her.

When she tried to change her seat as the were still empty ones available she had noticed Lucas had chained his leg to hers.

When and how he did it was unknown to her but one thing she knew was the fact that he loved to make her angry.

The chain would make noise every time she tried to move away so she eventually gave up, not wanting anymore attention than the onea she was receiving from the ladies who were glaring out of jealousy and the men the had a hint of list in their eyes.

The only thing that gave her solace was the thought of struggling the man who sat chained to her leg.

Luna stabbed the piece of meat before placing it in her mouth. She had heard the clanking sound if chains but she had brushed away thinking it was her imagination.

Luna's eyes widened when the fork fell from her hand. She clips d her eyes waiting to hear the clanking sound if the fork hitting the tiled floor but when she opened one of her eyes she noticed he legs had caught the fork right before it could hit the floor.

She bent down to take it but before she could raise her head after retrieving her fork, she saw two legs that were chained together with a shiny chain.

She stared at Lucas and Abigail wondering why their legs were chained together.
