Chapter 13 - Royal gifts

"You sent it after them, didn't you?"Lucas asked with a small smile on his face.

He stared at his brother's figure that had no shadow underneath unlike him.

Nicholas nodded,

"It was just to keep an eye on them. To make sure they were save."

"They?" Asked Lucas looking confused,"or was it her?" He smiled back at his brother.

"I'm surprise you didn't send yours with her. Knowing how protective you are, I'm sure you have someone or thing follow her." Nicholas said calmly before taking a sip from the glass of water on his desk.

"I did. I sent screech after them, or maybe only her." Lucas said, getting up from the desk that he was sitting on for a while.

"The bird?" Asked Nicholas to receive a nod from Lucas.

"Haven't you thought of naming yours?" Lucas asked curiously. He had named the bird that was fond of following him, but his brother haven't bother himself with the bird.

"I don't want to get attached to that thing. And besides, I have more important things to do that to befriend a bird. I'm sure you have too."

Just then the butler arrived with a letter in his hand,

"This jut arrived, Lord Nicholas." Said the butler before handing the message to the lord.

"Who's it from?" Lucas asked hoping it wasn't an invite to any gathering. As much as he liked the attention, he still need time for his personal affairs. And beside he had more entertainment in the mansion than outside.

"It's from Alex." The Lord said reading who the letter was from.

Alexander or Alex for short, was the crown prince of Hansonia and also their cousin.

"What does it say?" Asked Lucas eagerly. Unlike his ice cold brother, Alex was much flexible and happier than the gloomy lord before him.

The lord took a glance at the letter than was neatly written. He went on to read,

'I'm sorry I couldn't make it to Gina's birthday. I tried my best but the old man just told me some days before her birthday that I had sethimg else to do.

As you already know, I still would have come even if I had things to take care of but I'll save my main reason for the end of the letter.'

The lord paused and was about to skip some paragraphs just to reach the end of the letter but before he could, he caught sight of a sentence that was written boldly.

'Don't you dare skip the letter!'

The lord let out a sigh before he continued from where he left off.

'Do tell Gina that I wish her a happy birthday, her gift would be arriving a few days after this letter but yours should come along with the letter.'

Nicholas didn't know why but he just felt that Alexander would have had a grin as he wrote this part of the letter.

The Lord stared at the large metallic box the butler had carried to his sturdy. He gave a nod to the butler who opened the box to reveal a series of revolvers that were of different shades of gold, silver and white.

The butler lifted the first case revealing the second that had golden bullets neatly arranged.

'The gold guns are all yours, the silver ones for Lucas and the white ones for the women you both find dear to your hearts. Though the bullets are made of gold, the elements in them are stronger than the usual silver bullets and might even harm you three. It was Emerald who came up with them. And to why I couldn't come, : ) Emerald is expecting, and its a boy and a girl.

I thought of naming the boy after you when he is born but then I remembered how boring you could be. Then I thought of Lucas but his grinning face made me change my mind. I'm still brainstorming. I'll tell you when she delivers.'

The letter came to an end.

The lord had a small smile on his face while Lucas' eyes glimmered with excitement at the shiny new toys.

"Do you really think it can hurt us?" Lucas asked taking a hold of one of the silver colored guns. Tilting it he noticed the design on the gun that formed an 'L'.

"I don't really know. If it does then it would be really effective." The lord said picking up one of the guns.

Ordinary silver bullets didn't hurt them as the wound closes almost instantly because of the kind they were.

Lucas cracked open the gun, pushing eight of the golden bullets into the slots provided.

He pulled the cork of the gun before aiming it at his open palm.

He squeezed the trigger, but surprisingly no bullet left the gun and it made Lucas' brows furrow.

"What happened?" He asked with a perplexed look on his face.

"It came with a manual, Lucas." Said the Lord and Lucas' eyes fell on the folded paper that sat at a corner.

'Because the gun might hurt you guys, I added a safety mechanism to the gun.'

By the looks of the handwriting, the lord knew who wrote this piece. It was non other than Alexander's wife, Emerald.

Following the instructions Emerald had written, Lucas heard a click sound that brought a satisfied smile into his face.

He again pointed the gun to his forearm before pressing the trigger.

The horses that had pulled that carriage from the library neighed noisily and almost ran away if not for the strong grip of Dylan, when they heard the loud sound of a gun shot echo throughout the mansion's surroundings.

Dylan calmed the horses and turned to only find the ladies her had brought back home running towards the sound of the gunshot.

He took a quick glance at the opened carriage to find the books lady Luna had brought along with her.

With a tired sigh, he took hold of the books before entering the mansion.

When the women arrived at the Lord's sturdy their mouth hunger open in shock.

Lucas was on his knees with blood dripping from his arm and his face contoured in pain.

The lord brought up the gun in his hand and pointed it at his forearm.

"D-dont?" Lucas tried to warn but before the words reach the Lord's ears he pressed the trigger.

Luna eyes met the Lord's before he pulled the trigger and Luna witnessed as the golden bullet sunk into his arm.

Blood dripped from the Lord's arm as they heard a sizzling sound.

Gina rushed to Lucas who was still on his knees.

"What is wrong with you both?" She screamed at them.

"Do you have a death wish or what, huh?"

"We were testing the gifts Alex sent us." Lucas smiled through gritted teeth.

Abigail who was staring at the lord saw he didn't wince like Lucas did but stared straight at the woman who stood next to her. He gaze shifter to Lucas who gritted his teeth so hard she feared it would shatter any second.

It made her question how painful the bullet had wounded the two strongest people she knew.

Gina bent down a little before placing her hand on his wound that made him wince.

"Don't." He said already having an idea of what she wanted to do.

Gina ignored her brother's words and proceeded to reverse the state of his wound.

The wound slowly started to close but before the wound could fully close, Gina felt her eyelid feeling heavy and her head developing a splitting head.

Gina's eyes close and her body swayed.

Lucas didn't have enough time to react as he was still in pain but before Gina could fall down someone caught her.

Lucas looked up at the person ready to thank him or her for saving his little sister but when his eyes met the person's, a scowl formed on his face.

Lucas continued to stare at Dylan who glared back at him. His dull eyes looking livid.

And with the way Dylan held Gina's unconscious body in his hand, only made Lucas' blood boil.

Dylan glared at Lucas, flames in his eyes dancing with care, worry and mostly anger.
