Chapter 27 - The Guide

"Please, help me!" A woman called out. Glenn and Felix looked at each other and knew wha role this woman portrays.

"The guide," Glenn said. "Let me talk to her. The undead soldiers have been cleaned in this area. It should be safe for you to walk."

"Alright," John nodded. "Be careful though. We still don't know what she is."

Glenn nodded and ran to the direction of the woman. "Switch."

With a flash of his movements, he defeated all the undead soldiers that surrounded the woman. He smirked and offered his hand for her. "Come on. Can you stand?"

In the game, there was a woman close by and she was being surrounded by four undead soldiers. The player has to immediately clear the four undead soldiers or else the Bow Hunter will never be hunted.

This step was crucial that in the first revision of the game, where the scenes were applied, when the woman wasn't saved, the user would restart the arc and come back to the start of the first wave.

This was especially hard because there was no warning that a woman has to be saved. The arc would just restart.

The developers received a lot of backlash about this, but when a user saw the woman and saved her, everyone went back to the game and praised the developers for the challenge.

"What's your name?" the woman asked as she took Glenn's hand to pull herself up. "My name is Diana. I'm from a village nearby."

"My name is Glenn," Glenn introduced. "I'm an Adventurer. Are you going inside the town?"

"I was, but the wall here prevented me from doing so," Diana said. She looked up to see the people garrisoned on the wall were also watching her. "They tried to attack me multiple times. Good thing I was agile and avoided their attacks."

Glenn smirked and shook his head. "This is a dangerous place to be. Let me get you inside and let's search for the ones that tried to harm you. Let's punish them."

Glenn knew that the Adventurers above the wall were just curious about Diana's existence. She suddenly spawned near the wall, so they mistook her for one of the undead soldiers.

"Oh, no that's okay," Diana shook her head. "Come on. I have to talk to someone inside. It's really important."

Glenn knew that Diana wanted to meet with Melissa, so he agreed and led her straight to her. The latter was still on the tower and was still handing out orders to her men.

"Melissa, I have someone here who wants to talk to you," Glenn said.

"Glenn, I have a lot on my plate right now," Melissa said without even looking at their direction. "You, replace the ones who are stationed in station 3…"

"I'm from the Vassos Tribe," Diana said. "I have to talk to the Knights captain of this town."

Melissa instantly stopped from what she was doing and looked at Diana. "Did you just say Vassos Tribe?"

"We have something important that we need to discuss," Diana said. "Prepare a private room. No one must know about this."

"But these three should," Melissa pointed Glenn, Gina, and John. "Let's go."

Melissa took them to a room inside the wall. Diana walked in front of them and bowed. "Please help our tribe."

"What?" Melissa asked. "What happened? I thought you were going to send us help."

"I wish I could, but there was someone who infiltrated the tribe a few hours ago," Diana cried. "She killed the elders and took control of our sacred temple where she destoryed the roof with her magic.

"The Bow Hunter," Gina whispered to Glenn. "So, this is the guide who will lead us there?"

"Yeah," Glenn nodded. "But the Bow Hunter was sitting on a tree stomp while firing her arrows. This was a different scenario than in the game."

"That is true," Gina nodded. "Let's listen to her more."

"What happened next?" Melissa asked. "Were you harmed or were a lot moe people got hurt?"

"No," Diana shook her head gently. "After she took control of the sacred temple, the woman locked herself inside and never hurt anyone else."

"Odd," Melissa pursed her lips. "As much as I want to help, we are also facing a crisis right now."

"Get inside your homes and fortify it," Glenn said. "Diana, the three of us will come with you. Lead us to this woman when I said so."

"But we have to go now," Diana argued. "What if she changes her mind and decided to hurt everyone there?"

"When another horn echoes the entire forest…" Glenn trailed off just in time for a loud horn to sound. "The second wave will start and there is nothing left we can do but wait. Melissa, gather everyone. We have already fortified all the buildings in this town, so we should be safe. We still have five minutes to get inside."

"I didn't know that it was this quick," John said. "They should've given us a couple more minutes to rest."

"Diana," Glenn called. "Take us now."

They were running into the forest with Diana leading them. She was running in front of everyone and led the way to her tribe's village.

"I think the reason why we're so rushed here because in the game, we rushed the time for the next wave," Glenn said. "I know you got too far to the final area, that's why you were able to defeat the Army of the Dead quicker than the Adventurers here could defeat them."

"What?" John asked. "What does that have to do with anything? Yes, the first spawn area was a few maps from the final spawn area, but it didn't stop us from going there."

"That's exactly the reason why we had more time in the game," Glenn said. "We annihilated the army of the dead before they could finish their allotted time. The undead soldiers here we're just on time, it was us in the game which were too fast."

"Oh," John formed an O with his mouth. "Then, we're just really good players then."

Glenn chuckled and shook his head. They because silent afterwards, until they saw a faint red light from afar.

They stopped and leaped to the nearby trees, only to see a thousand burning arrows being fired towards the town.

"Will they be okay?" Gina asked. "What if–"

"Believe in them," Glenn said. "We already instructed them about what to do. And besides, as harmful as they look, these arrows could only hurt flesh. It is ineffective against stone and metal, so you don't have to worry."

"Alright," Diana nodded. "And we're almost there. Just a few more minutes."

"Alright," Glenn repeated her word. "We're counting on you."
