Chapter 30 - Harmless

Glenn and Gina arrived at Galaron with chaos erupting inside the walls. The Baron of Diseases stood at the top of the bell tower, laughing as a black cloud hovered above him.

From this cloud, the Demonic Locust were being summoned. They were small demonic creatures that were humanoid but had plump bodies. They had wings that were similar to bats attached on their backs and a pair of straight horn on their heads.

Glenn watched in horror as the Demonic Locusts enters the houses, killing everything on their sight. For now, there were only a couple of them, but the Baron of Diseases will get stronger the more his minions would kill, causing him to summon more minions.

"Where's John?" Gina asked. "We have to do something about this."

"We can't get them to the torched so they could light them up," Glenn said. "But we can bring the torches to them. Gina, you know what to do."

"I like that idea," Gina smirked. She grit her teeth and raised her staff above her head. "Personification!"

From the head of her staff, a dark green light erupted. The flames reached the giant torches which Gina brought to life. "Now we just need someone who can conjure fire."

"There's tons of them below," Glenn said. He ran to a nearby tower from the wall and inahled deeply. "Tree of Life!"

Glenn manifested the bright white tree to life. He didn't create a gigantic one like what he did to cure people off of the miasma, but this one was just big enough to get their attention.

"Light the torches up!" Glenn yelled as loud as he could. "They will drive the minions away!"

The nearby Adventurers were the only ones who heard him, but they got the idea. Many Adventurers and Knights mustered courage to ran to the walking torches and ignite it.

This way, when the ones far from Glenn would see that the flames of the torches would drive the minions away, they would do the same. There were hundreds of torches running around town, so the idea would spread like wildfire once it has started.

"Look at that," Gina pointed at the bell tower. It was John climbing the tower while fighting the minions. "He's really doing it."

For John, fighting the minions was an easy task. There were just two things that hindered him in this battle. The first one was his position. The only way to climb the bell tower wad through a ladder. This ladder would go straight up to the top of the tower.

Climbing a ladder while fighting flying, flesh eating monsters, was a hard task which leads to the second hard thing about what John was doing. There was an awful lot of minions around the Baron of Diseases and even when he kills dozens of them at once, they still kept on coming for him.

"This is endless!" John growled. "How am I supposed to climb when there's just too many of you?"

"Wheel of Whispers!"

The green flaming orbs of light hit the minions, causing them to look at the direction of the attacker. Even John wa shocked after hearing the gentle voice of the young mage.

"What are you doing?" John growled. "These creatures are powerful enough to devour a small child– and you're all small children!"

"Our big siblings taught us well," Felix said, raising his dagget to the level of his chest. "We won't waste their effotst by hiding in the corner!"

"Big Brother Assassin, we'll cover you," Patrick said. "Please be careful as you defeat the Baron of Diseases!"

"You little kids," John smirked. "You better make us proud."

"Enraged Taunt!" Don slammed his sword on the ground. John looked in shock after hearing the boy cast the skill. "What?"

Don's sword and his body glowed with a bright red color. He screamed as he channeled his energy and fired it into a wave of force that reached the entire span of the town.

"What are you doing?!" John yelled.

"A skill that enhances my attributes," Don said. "A man gave this skill to me and I never knew someone could do that."

The minions stopped and watched Don without any signs of hostility. Don grinned and proudly placed his hands on his waist. "Look, I feel powerful right now."

"That's a skill that taunts all enemies to come to you," John yelled. "The minions will come after you!"

"What–"

Screech!

The swarm of minions encirlced the air above Don. This made the boy along with his friends to shake in fear as they bathed in the ominous killing intent of the minions above them. To say that this was a scary sight to see was an understatement.

Thud.

A tall man with a black tattered cloak leaped from the bell tower. He had a long white hair with two groups tied at the end with a stone ring and the rest were on his back which were also tied to the end by another stone ring.

He wielded a metal staff with a large stone on the tip that was held in between a bird's beak-shaped head. There was a ring in the middle of the staff which the man used to hold his staff as he walked towards Don.

"Your skill just now," the man said. His voice was high-pitched but it was scruff. "That's not something that existed in this era."

"W-What do you mean?" Don asked, his voice stuttering in fear. "It was only given to me, I didn't originally own it."

"I know," the man said. "The people from this era do not possess such magic, but a matter of who gave that to you is the question."

"W-What do you mean?" Don asked. "Sir, I'm scared."

"Do not be," the man said. "I just witnessed two ancient, lost magic. I could not pass this opportunity up."

"But your minions–"

"These little things?" the man raised his arm and one minion landed on his arm. It rubbedd it head to the head of the man, causing the hood of the man to fall off, revealing a young handsome face.

"They're just playful creatures I transfer here from Hell," the man chuckled.

Thud! Zing!

John raised his dagger at the man's neck, his eyes boring holes at the man. "What are you doing?"

The man dropped his staff and raised his hands in surrender. "My name is Philip, and I am a defacto member of the Four Waves."

"But you murdered all of those people," John leaned his dagger closer to Philip's neck. "You killed them."

"Kill?" Philip asked. He leaned back so the dagger would stop touching his neck as he shook his head. "My babies are herbivores. They don't eat anything."

"But the blood–"

"Blood berries!" Philip slammed his hands together. He looked at his minions and ordered them. "Uh, give me one berry please. They're don't eat flesh, but they are troublesome and playful."

A minion dropped a berry right above Philip's head. Upon contact, the berry exploded that caused a blood-like juice to spew out.

"See?" Philip shrugged. "My minions are harmless."
