It was almost nightfall. The bell of Galaron was ringing, the civilians are entering their homes, locked and protected inside. The darkness was coming as the timer of the Four Waves was ending.
"It's almost here," Glenn said as he watched the time tick. "Five more minutes."
"Knights! To your stations!" Melissa commanded and ordered the knights to position themselves to garrison the walls of their town.
In just one day, the Adventurers and Knights built a high wall that protected the town. The wall was thick, tall, and was made of natural materials and was fortified with magic.
"When the Four Waves come, a loud sound of the Triumph Horn will echo throughout the world," Glenn said. "When this happens, the Army of the Dead will rise from the ground and attack this town."
"Two more minutes," Gina whispered. "I'm nervous. The game and this world are very different. When I played the game, I didn't feel an ounce of fear. I just played it."
"I know that feeling," John agreed. "The game mechanics were much easier than this one we have now. I feel scared."
"Don't panic," Glenn said to them. "The Four Waves will be much easier for us than to them, so you don't have to be scared. The Death Lord is only Level 20, that's nothing compared to your levels. What we have to worry about now are the ones with small levels. We need to protect them."
"How many do you think would survive this?" Gina asked. "We can't save everyone. You know that, right? Especially when they get chosen as the champion that would fight the Death Lord."
"We will save everyone," Glenn said sternly. "No one will die in this stage of the story. Not this early."
Tick.
'The Four Waves will start in three…'
Gina gulped as they heard the ticking sound and the countdown started in their vision. The countdown is exclusively for them and wasn't seen by the rest of the Adventurers.
'Two…'
John gripped his dagger with his hand. The skies darkened and the breeze that blows gor colder. The atmosphere became heavy and the mood went down in an instant.
'One.'
Glenn took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He had a plan in his mind, his goal was zero casualties. He wanted to achieve this goal and save everyone in town. "No one will die anymore."
'The Four Waves has started.'
A blast of cold, dark energy reached all across the lands. This sent fear in everyone's minds, feeling the terrifying aura of the undead marching towards them.
"They're coming," Glenn said. "The Army of the Dead is coming. Everyone, prepare!"
He rang the bell to signal the Adventurers and Knights that the army of the dead was coming. Glenn waited for them to actually appear, then he will ring the bell again.
"This army of the dead," Melissa muttered. "What do they look like?"
"Horrifying," Melissa said without hesitation. "Well, when I first saw them, it wasn't that scary but now I just think how they look and couldn't help the shivers that are sent down my spine."
"I could still remember their features," John said. "Rotten bodies with leather armor, some of them had iron armor. They are distinct with their weapons, some have swords, some carry axes, other wields bow and arrows."
"They could shoot arrows too?" Melissa asked. "Can we survive that? They sound scary."
"They're not," Glenn said. "As a Royal Knight captains, you must've hunted beasts before. A lot of them, right?"
"Just some," Melissa replied. "We have a required number of beasts to slay as well as dungeons to be cleared before we can get this title."
"Dungeons," Glenn whispered and then he looked at his friends, as if he was talking to them in his mind. "But Melissa, beasts like the Army of the Dead are still beasts after all. You have dealt with them before, you can deal with them again."
From one of the towers of the wall, a sword was lit up. This was the signal that the Army of the Dead has appeared around them. Glenn went to the bell and rung it once more. "The Army of the Dead is here!"
Pew! Pew! Pew!
Large flaming balls were fired at the skies. This provided them the vision they needed to target the undead which were running towards them.
"Are you sure we don't have to send any Knight down below?" Melissa asked. "Knights can fight these undead."
"No," Glenn said. "Knights aren't pawns that we can just send. We can deal with these without leaving the town."
The mages and rangers fired their attacks at the undead army. Using a bridge that connected the bell tower and the wall which Gina created through enchantment, Glenn went to the wall to see for himself how they were going.
He saw that their attacks were working agains the dead soldiers. They were rotten flesh mobs that ran straight to the wall. Some of them were already skeletons, just running aimlessly.
"They disturbed the order of nature," a man spoke beside Glenn. He turned to see the tall man with medium length curly hair and glasses. "And that's why they're beasts and not beings. Don't you agree?"
There was an odd atmosphere about the man, but Glenn didn't know what. This person was only wearing a black suit but his aura felt like he was a normal person, yet the vibes he give off was saying otherwise.
"What–"
"Glenn!" Gina called. "Look at this."
"Hold on," Glenn turned his head to Gina and when he turned back, the tall and skinny man was gone. "Who was that?"
"Glenn, come here!" it was John who called this time. Glenn grunted and ran to where they were, right on one side of the wall.
"What's happening?" Glenn asked.
"Look at that. Please fire a flare," Gina pointed at something.
"What in the name of heavens is that?" Glenn gasped as he locked eyes with an undead soldier that was composed of dozens of undead soldiers merged together. It had a large size and was grinning as it charged its body towards the wall. "Gina, do something!"
Gina slammed her hands on the floor and yelled. A thorn was shot up from the ground below, hitting the giant undead soldier in the middle of its body. It stopped, but yelled.
Using a tree that it cut off, the undead soldier pushed itself up from the thorn and smashed the stone thorn with the tree.
Roar!
"This was never in the game," Gina said. "What do we do, Glenn?"
Glenn sighed, "Fight it. It's only Level 10. We can definitely do something about it."
