Chereads / Healers Can't Deal Damage / Chapter 6 - Lies from NPCs

Chapter 6 - Lies from NPCs

Glenn returned to the market where he saw another group of Adventurers completing the first quest. They handed freshly hunter Iron Blue Bug at the vendor.

"Oh, no," the vendor said. "You have to deliver the shell only to us. What you need to do is take out the meat and save it for later. The meat from the Iron Blue Bug is edible."

"Oh?" the Adventurers asked. "Really?"

"Yes!" the vendor delightedly said. "The meat has a sweet and savory taste to it, but it's too spicy for some people's taste."

Those words again. Immediately after hearing the words, Glenn joined in the conversation. He was smiling at the vendor. "Is it true, sir?"

The vendor returned the smile. "But of course! Iron Blue Bug is a known delicacy here in Galaron. I don't know why you don't know that."

"But I talked to another vendor," Glenn said. "She said that the meat is poisonous. It will drain out your energy, leaving you pale and skinny. If not treated quickly, you will die."

The vendor's face turned from happy to angry in a split second. He was laughing at Glenn. "And which vendor told you that, huh?"

"Oh, she said not to tell you," Glenn said. He then turned to the young Adventurers. "If I were you, stick to livestock looking beasts like boars and sheep, even wild cows would be good. Don't just eat anything."

"And why should we believe you?" one of the Adventurers asked him. Glenn smirked and shook his head in disbelief.

In his mind, he was cursing at them for not trusting him. "Then believe what you want to believe. I don't care anymore."

With those words, Glenn left the market after buying seasonings and went to the forest to find something to eat. Since the restaurants denied them of their services, it was time for him to rely on himself.

It was a few minutes of walk and Glenn found his food. A medium sized giant boar, the size of a car. He grinned and slowly approached the beast.

Screech!

The boar screamed when it saw Glenn, but it was to late for it. Glenn had already raised his staff and slammed it right on the boar's face, immediately killing it. Even when he was a healer, the equipment he wore still contained damage attributes even without using Switch.

Although it was too little to be noticed in the pro league, it was very obvious when he was in newbie town like Galaron where beasts had very low attributes.

"Time to cook," Glenn said. He took out a rock and slammed it on the ground to break it, creating his own knife. He used the knife to take the hide off of the boar so he could sell it later on.

Meanwhile, he also took the innards of the boar and used a long round piece of wood to roast the boar on. It was easy for Glenn to cook because he was a middle aged man who lived alone. Nobody else would cook for him but himself.

Cackle. Cackle.

Glenn watched the skies get darker. He had a bonfire, so no beast would try to get close to him. Nocturnal beasts from newbie towns are afraid of the light, so a little flame would help Glenn ward off these creatures.

Cackle. Cackle.

He continued to roast the boar. He used the seasonings he bought earlier only after he made sure it wasn't poisoned or bad. Since the market vendors and the restaurants have a common deal to hate the Adventurers, Glenn's trust issues was now raised to the skies.

In this world, he can't easily trust anyone.

"It seems like this world is more messed up than we think."

Glenn heard John's voice from nowhere, so he took his staff and slammed the pommel on the ground, creating a bright flash of light that revealed John's location.

"Ouch," John groaned. "You didn't have to do that, you know."

"So, you noticed it too?" Glenn asked. "The NPCs are acting differently."

"Not only that," John sat on the other side of the bonfire. "It seems like everyone's memories have been wiped out."

Glenn paused for a bit. "Wipes out? What do you mean?"

"You saw me with a group of Adventurers, right?" John asked. "The moment we entered the gate, I brought up our world but they don't seem to remember it."

"What do you mean?" Glenn scrunched his face. "They forgot about the world we were from?"

"Yes," John replied with a sigh. "It seems like in this room, it's only you and me who have recollection of Earth. Nobody else remembers it. They think we're really sent from the heavens to defeat the darkness of this world."

"I still get confused about all of this," Glenn confessed. "What do the developers hoped for us to achieve? We're nothing but regular humans. Why did this world existed in the first place?"

"Those are questions that nobody can answer," John replied. "And have you noticed the odd atmosphere inside the town?"

"The vendors are telling the Adventurers that the Iron Blue Bug meat is edible," Glenn sighed. "Are they trying to poison us or something?"

"Not only that, but the establishments refused to offer their services," John said. "My group is also here in the forest. When I saw the abnormally red smoke from this area, I knew it had to be you."

The red smoke that John was talking about was caused by the amber stone that Glenn used to start a fire. It was released in the first launch of the game, but was replaced with flint and steel on the second patch.

The amber stone caused a dark red fire for the first few seconds until it would burn the wood or whatever it is the user was burning which then would turn to the normal orange fire.

"So the entire town hates us," Glenn pointed out. "Why do you think this is?"

"I do not know," John sighed. "But I have to return to my group. We will exchange more information tomorrow."

"Alright," Glenn nodded. John vanished from Glenn's sight not a moment later. He smirked after he remembered that assassins like him could do tricks like that and many more. His assassin teammate liked to play with him using the invisible trick.

Snap.

Glenn vanished from where he stood and appered right behind a group of people. They were leaning from a tree a couple of meters away from where Glenn was. Thanks to his level, his eyes were still able to see clearly even when he was in the darkness.

"Who are you and what do you want?" Glenn raised his staff to one of them.

"We're the kids you helped earlier," one of them spoke. "We don't know where to go, so we followed you here."

Glenn lowered his staff, sighing as he shook his head. "You shouldn't sneek up on people like that. If I was someone else, I would've killed you right on the spot."

He felt the kids shake in fear after what he just said. This made Glenn shake his head vigorously and drop his staff to shake his hands clear. "No, no, no. I didn't mean it like that."

Gluuurk.

"Oh," Glenn chuckled after hearing all of their stomachs growled. "Are you hungry?"

The kids nodded vigorously. This made Glenn chuckle and ruffle each of their heads. "You should've said so. Come, come. I just finished cooking."

As he watched the kids eat the food he made, Glenn clenched his hand. It would be much better if he just told everyone that he was a Level 90, but he was afraid of the conflict, confusion, and chaos it might cause. Everyone thinks that they were sent by the Heavens to start their lives here and protect the people, if he confesses his level, there might be consequences.

In this world that he knows nothing about, those consequences could become severe.

Glenn sighed and whispered to himself, "For now, I can't take that risk."
