Chapter 11 - The Savior of Galaron

John was called by Glenn to where they were. The man arrived at the small clearing that Glenn and Gina were where the latter grimaced after Glenn shook his head, saying he doesn't know about the Generals.

Gina sighed. "You quit the game right after you won the pro-league?"

"I did," Glenn said. "You did not?"

"I joined the second League before quitting because I needed a real job," Gina said. "But it would make sense that you didn't know anything. The beam was from Patch 2.0, also known as the Dark Generals Patch."

John waved his hands in the air to stop them, "You guys are from the pro-league?"

"Yes, we are," Glenn replied. "But don't worry about it because neither one of us knows anything about anything about this world."

"There must be something that's with us that allowed us to retain our memories as well as our accounts," Gina said. "Enough of the Generals for now. That can come later. We have to gather everyone and defeat the Demon Lord as quickly as possible."

"How will we do that?" Glenn asked. "It's not like–"

'The introductory Phase of God's Omen has completed.'

The three of them froze after hearing the notification. They waited for a few more seconds before another one rang.

'Please check your mail for the rules of the First Phase.'

They opened their interface and read the mail just like the notification said.

"First Patch, God's Omen," Glenn read out loud. "Among the 136 towns, only 71 has completed the introductory phrase otherwise known as the Parasite's Miasma Plots."

"Plots?" John asked. "Don't tell me, this will be like the first version of the original story. The one with the fixed plots."

Fixed Plots were part of the original story where the player would go through different scenarios as they move on in the main storyline. These plots follow a heavily scripted story and each one would end in the player's favor no matter how poorly they performed.

Plots were ultimately replaced with Scenes where they would have to face different scenarios. The outcome of the story in their game would be based on their performance on the scenario they were on. If they manage to get killed before they finished a storyline, they would go back to the first scene with their latest equipment, and do it all over again.

Through Scenes, the players would get more thrill because they needed to get better in order to level up and move on with the main story. This challenged them to do better and get stronger in the game unlike the fixed plot where even when they die, they would still complete the part of the story.

"Unfortunately, I think it is fixed plot," Gina said. This time, she continued to read the notification. "There are two Prime Adventurers that are assigned in each town, and among the 71 towns to have completed the task, all Prime Adventurers have survived."

"This was all a huge set up," Glenn sighed. "Whoever made God's Omen, the developers, they have planned everything from the start."

"I think that's the case," John agreed as he read the next part out loud. "There are also 14 surviving Prime Adventurers from failed Introductory Phase, they will be merged with other towns which in turn would have three Prime Adventurers protecting it."

For the last part, they read it all out loud. "The next Phase will be Phase One: The Four Demon Waves. Good luck, and may the Gods protect your virtues."

Glenn sighed and massaged his forehead. "136 towns, only 71 managed to defeat the first phase. Which meant that there are about 65 towns that have been completely taken over by the miasma. If they have the same effect as Galaron's citizens, this meant that 65 towns hate Adventurers."

"Gina, what was the status of Adventurers in your town before you fled?" John asked which made Gina sigh in helplessness.

"We were seen as freaks who doesn't belong in their town," Gina said. "My town became a newbie town which basically meant that a lot of us don't have anything and the town should've prepared us for the future as Adventurers, but it was completely different from that."

"We got you," John said. "Galaron was the same. The people despised the Adventurers here when the miasma spread."

"What will we do now?" Gina asked. "I assume I'm now merged for your town. We should protect it from the harm of the Four Waves."

"I assume that we have no other choice," Glenn sighed. "Let's go back to see what's going on."

The Four Waves Glenn and the others were referring to was the four disasters that the main storyline would face. When the player would start this part of the storyline, they would have to protect the town against the Four Waves or the four wave of demons that would try to destroy the town.

In the game, the Four Waves was rather easy. They controlled the time when they want to start the waves, so they could prepare before it happened. But in this world where uncertainty is the only thing that's certain, Glenn was clueless.

The kids were behind them when a group of Adventurers approached Glenn's group. They looked like they had their time to grind judging by the better looking equipment they got.

"Hey, you losers," the leader of the group which was a tall slender man with a long hair said. He carried a regular sized sword on his back, making Glenn know that he's a knight. "Where have you been? There was a huge scene here in town."

"A huge scene?" Glenn acted like he doesn't know anything.

"Hey!" one of the thugs growled. He was a plump man which also had a sword on his back. He pushed Glenn with as much as he could, but Glenn felt nothing. Still, the latter acted like it affected him.

He fake fell on the ground. "Ouch. What was that for?"

"You're talking to the man who saved this town while you're all away," the plump man growled. "Hail Ryan, the savior of Galaron."

"What is happening?" Glenn whispered.

Ryan, the tall slender man leaned down to face him. "It meant that I saved this town, you idiot. Now pay me your tax!"
