Chapter 35 - You do not always get what you want.

Charity was quiet as they walked back to the car, so in her thoughts that she hadn't realized that her hand sat in the comfort of Absalom's. He wasn't about to tell her either, his words kept echoing over and over in her mind, how was this not a dream? She thought, things like this never happened to her, it never did and last she checked she was not a character in some cheesy romance novel. How can he simply say this? How can he just like all of a sudden? What? Love at first sight, she barely even believed love existed then how would love at first sight be real. Looking up at Absalom she began to feel insecure and inferior.

She was pretty alright but then they were many prettier girls, she had nothing to her name and just a while back she was in such a bad situation she was about to be carted off by debt collectors. Her parents had basically disowned her and she hadn't been a good student in school. Out of the things she found that she was good at it had to be selling alcohol to other people, what a wonderful Christian. She was almost thirty and her life was still a mess, she had been waiting to become an adult for so long it just never happened. The only time she had some semblance of financial stability she had to go and fall in love, what kind of adult gets scammed like that?

"What are you thinking about so seriously?" Absalom asked and she stopped walking, stepping in front of him.

"Why do you like me? What about me do you love?"

"All of a sudden?" He said and she nodded.

"Sure I am pretty but looks only matter when it comes to physical attraction, and physical relationships. We have decided to put that off the table for now, so what else about me do you like? I am the stereotype of a short angry girl, with a fiery personality to make up for my lack of height. I am as elegant as using a fork to eat my pasta any other thing I eat I do so with my hands. I do not have the money nor connections why would somebody that has the capability to fulfill all my desires want me?"

"I love you because you have a fiery personality because you are the stereotypical short girl who is always angry. I love you because you do not have anything-"

She frowned, "I am being serious here." She huffed turning around to walk away but he grabbed her arm to stop her.

"If you make anything of yourself I will love you because of that too, if by some miracle you get taller and become introverted I will love you because of that as well. I love your lack of elegance and I love that you are so mature and honest. Whatever you do, whatever you become as long as it is you I will love it."

Her heart skipped a beat, it was either he was actually sincere or he actually believed he was truly in love with her, in conclusion, she saw nothing but the truth when he looked at her. No form of acting to replace pure emotion and passion. So many things kept flying around her mind but none of them made sense enough to be put into words, but Charity knew she wanted to say something, anything. "I am not mature."

"Really? I do not think so, the sign of maturity is coming to the realization and awareness that there are other people in the world, accepting that you do not always get what you want, and that sometimes what you want isn't very important. You learn to adjust and suppress your desires while making sacrifices for others, but you do not become a pushover or let people take advantage of you." He said, "you don't have to be successful or financially stable, that is what society wants but it is not everything. Besides you're just twenty-eight, you have your whole life ahead of you, all I ask is that you let me be a part of it."

"Wow, it's really nice being with an older man isn't it?"

"Does that mean we are together?"

"No, I won't let you win me over after only one date," she said walking ahead of him.

"Hey! Wait for me!"
