I shivered on Kyle's couch, still deep in my memory. I rocked back and forth, thinking to myself. "Even after that, why does my father believe he is on our side?"
"Yelena?" Kyle's voice was barely even a whisper.
He knew he had said too much. Yet he hardly said anything, and I was already in pain, thinking to myself, "what a baby I genuinely am."
I sighed to let him know I was coherent and understood him; I replied just as soft as he had said my name, "I just have reasons not to trust him, Kyle."
He sighed and got out of his chair and hugged me. "Yelena, I promise he has changed, I have kept a very close eye on him, well, I can't take all the credit Ella helped me out a lot."
I looked up, and him and smiled, "Ella, she's a smart girl, I missed her so much." I sighed as I recalled the first time I had met her.
Ella is a sweet girl, Kyle introduced her the last time he came to Europe. She has the prettiest hazel eyes and such entrancing ivory skin, dark scarlet hair that reaches to the middle of her back. Although we are the same height, it's hard to miss her in a room full of people, because of how beautiful she is.
He smiled at me and said, "She's actually on her way over now. I hope you don't mind. She wanted to see you."
"That just made my night, not that seeing you has made my night too, don't worry, she's not outdoing your awesomeness, yet." I stuck my tongue out at him, making him laugh.
"Seriously, sometimes I miss your sarcasm and humor. It's good to have you home, Yelena." He gave me another hug. "You've got to be famished, let me cook something up for you."
I looked at him, shocked, "Vampires know how to cook?" sticking my tongue out at him again.
"You know what, Yelena, you best watch your back because I think I can take you down." He replied in a teasing tone from the kitchen.
The front door opened unexpectedly, and I panicked. I ran to hide until I had realized who was at the door.
"ELLA!" I screamed as I tackled her to the ground. "I missed you." I hugged her tightly, still pinning her to the ground.
"You're suffocating me, Yelena, let…me…go…" She replied.
"Oh, I'm sorry, didn't know you were that fragile," I said letting her go and helping her up. "So, Ella, why did you want to see me?"
She looked at me conspicuously and jumped on me, hugging me, "So I can do this!" she laughed as I tried to get her off of me. "You can't get rid of me that easily!"
"Fine, you win," I collapsed on the couch again. "It's so good to see you again. You have no idea how much I missed your humor, being locked up with Kiah, can be so serious. It gets obnoxious."
"Yeah, I can imagine, I bet it got worse after your brother and father went missing, I'm surprised he even let you come here." She replied as she sat down next to me.
"Yeah, it took a while to convince him I would be okay, but don't be too surprised if he shows up," I replied, relaxing a little.
"I figured he would show up sooner or later. I'm more surprised he didn't come with you when he bought your ticket. I'm wondering why he didn't fight with you more about it." She replied, cocking her head dramatically.
"He probably figured I needed some time with you guys first before he could come barging in, demanding that he be the one to protect me everywhere I go," I replied laughing a little to myself. "Kyle, you need to finish telling me what you know and what the plan is going to be" I looked over at him expectedly.
"Well, Scott told me that he had delivered you a letter from your father two years ago, do you still have what he gave you?" He asked without hesitation.
I looked at him and raised my right eyebrow. What does that have anything to do with what's going on? I thought to myself before I answered him.
"Yes, I have the letter and the package with me, but are you going to tell me what it has to do with my father and brother's disappearance first?" I watched his face to see if he would give anything away with his facial expressions.
"I believe we owe you that much, and it is going to hurt, Yelena that delivery is the reason all of this is happening." He replied slowly, taking in my reaction.
"W..Why?" I began to stutter, taking a deep breath. "What did my father do?" I watched as he mosied back to his recliner; he looked to Ella for help.
"That's why we asked if you still had the letter, we want to read what he had written, to understand it more fully as to why it all happened, before we could explain anything to you." She replied for him, looking down at her hands, not sure if it was alright to tell me this or not.
"Yeah, let me grab it. The letter said not to open till I was 18, I've been putting it off. I don't even know what is written in it." I replied while searching my suitcase for the letter. "Got it!" I pulled my hand out of the suitcase holding the letter.
Ella and Kyle came to sit next to me as I opened the envelope with my father's handwriting that said 'Open on your 18th birthday' with a smiley face at the end. I smiled knowing my dad had written that while he was under duress, and still managed to put a smile on the end of it.
