Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Raven

Ireland? I do believe my cat woman has positively lost her mind. She's probably just hoping she can use it as an excuse to postpone her wedding with Derrick even longer. They were supposed to be married once she turned 18 but Derrick had decided to extend the engagement. I've met him a few times. He was always very polite, his voice was like music and his laughter was voluminous and genuine. The eerie Italian is simply too perfect to be trusted. As the wedding day grows nearer and nearer the light seems to fade even more from her eyes. Maybe she does need to get away for a while. Between the marriage and the two kids, Jason is a teenage boy, he's going to be such a pain. Especially if he's anything like his brother.

"Sorry, back"

says Amora as she rushes through the door.

"What was the problem?"

I ask her, my tone light, resolving to the decision I didn't want to make.

"Um, that's a bit complicated, I'll tell you about it later."

She fluffs her hair in the mirror but grimaces when she notices the diamond engagement ring on her finger. She twists it off of her hand and slips it in her pocket.

"Oh, sweetie." I say to her as she pouts in the mirror. "don't leave your face like that too long, it will get wrinkles. And you are simply too pretty for that." She rolls her eyes but smiles. "You sound like my mother. Only nicer" I look at her, she is in fact very pretty. Over the past 4 years my appearance hasn't changed very much, I was an early bloomer afterall. Amora had really grown into herself, I wondered if AJ had anything to do with it. I wonder if by knowing her true purpose Amora gained confidence in herself. To be more than her mother's puppet. Her lips seemed fuller and her blue gray eyes had become even richer in color, looking into Amora's eyes was much like looking at a stormy sky over the ocean. Her icy hair is silkier and volumized, her skin creamy and even.

"Come, come" I gesture for her to sit in front of me. She moves her eyes away from the mirror and sits in front of me. I am sitting on a velvet bar stool in front of the cracked white vanity. Amora pulls up a desk chair and plops into it, slumped forward, a grimace still resting on her face.

"Oh, dear lord save me now." I say quickly "Your hair, and your lipstick."

I shudder, grabbing my kaboodle.

"Don't fret, I will fix it for you." with that her grimace loosens, she laughs "You are a strange one." her eyes sparkle with amusement.

. "Thanks, love. You're a freak. attattat, no smiling, you'll ruin my work"

she tries to suppress the smile that was blooming across her pink shimmery lips, but it fails and we both start laughing. "So much for your beautiful work." She smiles

"eh, the pink wasn't working for you anyway."

she's still smiling but there's a faraway look in her eye, she messes with the ring in her pocket.

"I don't want to get married, Raven." She says quietly, her smile falling, tears mixing with the faraway look. My heart hurts for her, the poor girl. She's never been allowed freedom. Everything in her life has been planned, every single second of it.
