Dvina's words burned a place inside Edward's mind almost in seconds, as the air blew past his cold, chilled to the touch body. The clothing he wore wasn't enough to keep himself warm, and without the power of his unleashed form, he feared the worst for himself when he felt the power of the toxic air coming over him again. The great power of the toxic that started poisoning him from the beginning, when he'd first stepped foot in Demon Nation. He groaned into his hand, as his head lightly swept past his cold skin. Shutting his eyes as he tried to wrap his arms around himself, feeling nothing but the chill of the cold substance, still sticking to his skin. The water that had been poured all over him, stuck to him like glue. It didn't seem like much water at first, the amount was small indeed, but even with the small amount he'd been splashed with, the water seemed as if the amount had doubled.
''Hey, you don't look so good? Your lips have gone blue, are you feeling okay, Edward?'' Dvina's words brushed past him lightly, as he returned to the dark embrace of the raven surroundings around him. He had to take a moment to remember where he was, but once he did, he tried to ignore his pain, and return to Dvina's first words. The factual part where she called herself his sister. In which in detail would make them siblings as well. Since learning the truth that Barron had been his human brother from his short time with his abandoned mother back on Earth. Sadly, his first time to Earth truly wasn't his first. Not like he thought over and over again. Not like he told Aaron, during what he thought to be his second fist, the first having been shared with his father, king Clark when he was only so little.
Another sad thing that buried deep inside him, creeping its head out to bother him from time to time, was the fact that Barron's adopted father had murdered their mother. Murdered her for her lungs. Running with the thought that mortal lungs could somehow have the same effect as it did for the demons who actually belonged here. The saddened fool, left with the woman's murder till death shall he part. All because he thought the mortal body could somehow work differently in a place FILLED with toxic poison for oxygen. Longing though, from Barron's well detailed backstory, his adopted father had passed away. As did the second mother he had. Barron and Edward did still have the chance to have a chance at another mother. Sadly however, Edward wasn't sure of his mothers true motive now. Given the sorts of so many of the revealed secrets he'd been kept away from, regarding his nineteen years as a created warm one. Saddened to not have been born one, vs created.
Now, he was just a simple traitor. A traitor to his public, to his people. Even to his own family. Alice, his father, the two who'd played him the most. And right under his nose too! Remembering that fact only boiled his blood further. However he was pulled from his thoughts quickly, once he felt the cool warmth of something lightly stroking the water away from his shoulders. He was startled instantly, his feet jumping up from the ground, as he acted quickly. Turning around with a gust of cold wind, his pale colored eyes shaped softly, yet still pained with pain.
''Relax, Edward! Its okay! He's not a threat!'' He heard Dvina shout.
''Then who is he?!'' He barked back, proceeding not to relax himself until he heard her truth. Dvina sighed as he walked out in front of him, pushing herself in the middle of a random stranger who stared at Edward with piercing cold, eyes, as she shut hers softly. Once she opened them again, the color of her eyes randomly changed. Edward couldn't catch the fact right from the beginning, but now that he could see it now, he couldn't seem to get his attention to turn onto anything else. From dark black to a gleaming sliver. Proceeding from replacement of a normal human iris, to that of a cat or aliens. Either way Edward was stunned. More confused though, as he proceeded to gather the information he so graved.
''Edward, meet my closest friend, Light.'' She said softly, a smile coming onto her face, as she used her arms to point him out. The features of the strange demon were certainty far from any demon's features he'd seen before. Barron, Ren, and Bright, looked nothing like him. No, they had human skin. The right color of skin Light however, had light, light, pale skin. The texture of his skin reminded him of sunscreen. That or the pale skin of a normal vampire he'd seen ages ago. His sliver eyes were the first thing he noticed aside from his skin, proceeding to run up and down his body with his orange colored eyes, as he noticed strange markings running along his arms. Seeming to be stained with some kind of black ink acting as blankets to keep them covered although, they were crystal clear to Edward. Proceeding to bring up a memory of the first time his eyes had laid upon Ren and Bright's toured appearances, while being locked up at that facility back on Earth. The man who ran that place must've been a possessed victim. How else could he explain his deep, dark, voice, and the scent of death lingering along his breath. Must've been the case for mind control. A demon who's lost his physical body, who was submerged into dark matter the moment he or she became a spirt. Edward figured that must be the truth. Either way, the demon had been still there. They'd never dealt with it. Would it be to much to hope Ren and Bright had things protected on Earth during his absence? It was still shown to him that he and Barron had still been kidnapped from his home. Either way, the two must be worried sick for their youngest brother. Regarding the truth of his true origins. As a half mortal, half demon. Human lungs have been replaced with demon lungs doesn't exactly change the DNA of a person completely. The human side's in there somewhere. Which made Edward wonder to himself? Was there even a small spark of his human side still lurking deep somewhere inside him?
Could he even still have that possibly, given everything he'd been through, and caused? Was it even his right to think he could relate?
''Hey, Edward? Are you still with us?'' Asked Dvina, try as best she could to bring him back from the realm of his thoughts. He took a few slowed blinks as he returned from inside his head. Bringing his attention to stare right back at the person in front of him. The demon called Light. He didn't seem to have any features of that of a demon. Not as some he'd seen. Although once he thought about it, Ren and Bright certainly couldn't produce any sort of wings or horns. Which were usually a key component to a demon. However, Barron's secret power was that of a pair of black, white wings. Although again, his wings were given to him simply because of a power. He'd never been born with the things, nor did they bring him any sort of gifts. Nope, just mental and physical damage done to the body, that put his ability to walk in danger more times than he probably like to talk about.
''Yeah, I'm still with you.'' He lied. ''You got any dangerous, life threatening, abilities under your sleeve, Light?'' He carelessly asked. Light turned an eye, as he stared at Dvina, almost like he was asking for her permission to answer him. Dvina nodded as she lightly pushed him, with her elbow, to his side.
''You don't need to ask me for permission to answer, I'm not your boss remember?!'' She shouted annoyingly. It seemed as though the two had been together for much time. Edward was sure there was more there, then what they allowed him to see. A secret romance? Perhaps? Surely maybe? Although he had desire to ask for himself. Still seeming to be a little awkward, and uncomfortable to face the fact him and Dvina could be related.
''I got a couple..'' He admitted softly. ''Although they don't harm me in any sort of way. Not like Barron's wings hurted him.'' He whispered now.
''So, you know Barron as well then? Never thought Barron would be so popular here? To me, he doesn't seem that social.'' Edward truthfully admitted.
''Its probably because he didn't know you all that well, given how you talk about him, I'd figure you two grew very close from his time banished to Earth.'' Dvina smiled. ''I'm also making a point here, you two probably learned the truth together? The truth regarding your relationship.''
''Yes, that is true. I know the truth behind everything, and so does Barron. We were both told at the exact same time, I feel though Barron took the news more to heart then I did. At that moment the surprise of the knowledge didn't surprise me, at the time I'd already learned the truth behind so many crimes, caused by my father, I wasn't going to be surprised for a second time. The fact that Barron was my brother from Earth? That I didn't except though...I can safely admit I was more thankful that I got a chance to meet him, face to face, seeing as my stepbrother had his fate sealed away at the hands of also my father.....''
''Do you remember anything about your Earth mother? Anything at all?'' Dvina asked, her voice rather high as it almost seemed like she was trying to get answers by pushing.
''I know my mother simply didn't want me and Barron, she dumped us in some dark alley, or so I was told.'' He hissed.
''It wasn't an alley! Mom didn't leave you two in an alley!'' Dvina suddenly shouted, rather defensive as it would seem, she knew more about his mother than things had seemed before. I mean of course she had to know somethings regarding their mother, somebody had too. And from her statement, she was there the day they were taken. She explained her whole travel visit to Demon Nation, although she never mentioned what fate had been given to their mother? She died, he knew that. But as Edward tried to find the answers inside his own mind, he was left with so much confusion, he had none of the answers.
''By your sudden tone, Dvina, I'm guessing you weren't that young when we were all taken? You were with Mom on the day, like you explained earlier, that's still the story, correct?'' He asked.
Dvina nodded, tightening her lips together before she relaxed them, opening them back up slowly, so she could speck. ''I wasn't that young back then, I was about the age of five or six. Since time works differently on Nation Valley, then it does here on Demon Nation, your freezing age would've been much faster than ours. Me and Barron, I mean... That is why even though you were born the youngest, and last of mothers children, you are able to stand here in front of me, with a face matching nineteen...'' She breathed. ''While I'm still stuck at seventeen.
''None of that makes any sense though? How am I supposed to be the youngest of the family, if you say I'm suddenly the oldest now? Could it have really been because of the difference in freezing time?'' Edward questioned, sure of himself the truth wasn't this complicated.
''I already told you before, that's how time works here. Tiny differences, Edward, there are tiny differences between both our homes. While you and your people live with the sun beating down onto your faces everyday, me and my people live in the darkness. We've never had the feeling of sun on our faces, Demon Nation is simply a dark, dead, planet.... your strength and maturity most likely is one of the causes for your rapid freezing time. While our time is slowed down, yours was pushed faster. I'm sure if we'd still had our humans lungs, we'd be aging normally right about now...'' Dvina thought.
''That, and we'd probably have been dead long ago. Seeing as we wouldn't be able to breathe on either of our worlds....But if somehow you want to die, you shouldn't have accepted those demon lungs...'' He hissed.
''That choice wasn't ours to make, Edward! You know that, don't stop using your brain now, you know the whole truth. Besides you were a baby, and we were separated I couldn't have fought for your rights as I much as I could for Barron?! I don't know everything that happened that day, during the operation to switch our lungs, I lost Mom, plus I was in some strange universe, my only thought was to live. I was worried about dying, as you probably were too! Having as you were all by yourself! Surrounded by strangers!''
''Either way, I got out alive, Dvina. No matter how scared I probably was, so did you and Barron. We all survived.'' He whispered.
''You may not want to hear me talk about this, Edward, but I can defend mom's actions, because I understand. She couldn't take care of all three of us. It just wasn't going to be possible. I saw her everyday, you only saw her through your small green eyes, those innocent little eyes? Sometimes I swore, you barely knew who was looking down at you from time to time, you'd completely forget my face all those times I tried to play with you. After a few seconds though you'd start to remember, and when you did, you'd always try to bite my finger. I don't know why you did that, must've thought I was extra candy or something. Mom always made sure you had sweets. If I guess, that's probably why your eyes changed to a different color. One of the favorite candies Mom made sure to buy for you, was these fire rockets. They were more sweet than flaming though, I can say that based on the fact I stole them from you from time to time. They were exactly the same color as your eyes. Just as fire orange..'' She finished.
''Wow, Dad never told me that.'' He whispered, his gaze dropping to the locks of black grass underneath his feet.
''Of course he didn't, King Clark isn't your father! He doesn't know anything about you! How could he possibly have anything to tell you from your time on Earth? You weren't his son. You were my brother, Barron's brother. Our family....'' She whispered, a loving smile coming onto her face, as tears slowly formed in her sliver eyes.
''Can you tell me anything about our father? Our real father, is there anything at all?'' He hoped she could, but from the expression on her face, removing the loving smile, as she angrily took away the formed tears in her eyes, as she grabbed onto his wrist. Pulling him down along the path, Light following slowly behind the two.
''Our father was a bastard! A complete asshole! Left Mom for someone much younger than the fool....told Mom he wanted more from life than she could give him. The prick never lifted his fingers for anything, he barely even knew our freaking names. I'm telling you, Edward, your better off without memories of our father. You already have high hatred for your adopted one, I don't need to make things worse.'' She clenched her teeth as she finished her sentence. Edward nodded slowly to himself, without another word.
''Do you think someway I could get some clothes to wear by chance?'' He whispered, changing the subject as the cold winds only worsened the chill he already had. Dvina stopped pulling, and lightly turned look past him, as her eyes found Lights. She nodded, as Light did as well. Letting go of his arm, Edward was puzzled. Although in seconds, he felt the soft burning of something moving up and down his body. Black, and sticky. The substance smelled of oil, but felt like rubber. He wasn't sure what was happening, the substance covered his entire back, until a bit patch slid along from his body, cutting past his chest, as a path formed around his front skin. Covering his skin with the strange substance. Now it started to feel like a suit or some kind. Once the substance stopped moving about his body, he look a chance and looked up and down. Bending down to see his legs, and feet were also covered. He was sure from the smell of it, that he figured it was most likely flammable. Which could cause for an advantage in the future, to keep his flames stronger, and less effected from going out with splashes of water.
''Thank you for this...'' He said softly. Light refused to speck to him, just giving a small your welcome with his eyes. Which were still the most interesting part of his body, Edward seemed intrigued with.
''We should meet up with Twilight, then head to the castle. Barron's probably being prepared to be sentenced!'' Dvina suddenly shot over Edward's head, to Light. Light took over as lead, as Dvina turned to walk in the middle. Edward being the last behind the two.
''Twilight?'' He asked.
''She's his sister, she's been helping us go against the kings, for a while. Sad it took Barron's execution to make us finally decide to act on our plans.'' She admitted.
''So what I though was right then... Barron is going to be killed in front of his own people. Just like I was supposed too?'' Edward figured, now coming to the conclusion his past assumption were right. This was the way the system between the nations worked. Traitors were to be executed in front of the people, and kingdom in which they'd once resigned. No matter what. The chase was on if they thought to escape through the portals. They'd just be caught, and taken back. Forced to abandon whatever new life they'd created for themselves, on which ever place they'd end up. Just like the banished ones on Earth. If any of those creatures were traitors who escaped, Earth was going to be in further danger. Much, much more. ''Dvina, there's something you need to know! Something really important!'' Edward shouted once his thoughts came towards him again. The thought was of Ren, Bright, and Cole. Surprised he'd even been thinking of Cole.
''Can't it wait till we are safe with Twilight?!'' She hissed.
''It could, but you may want to know it now. Just in case.'' He replied.
''Tell me as we walk.'' She hissed.
''Al-rightly...'' Edward nodded to himself. ''You said I was your family, along with Barron, I assume you mean't like we're your only family still alive, was that right?'' He asked.
''Sure... maybe.'' She whispered, a unsure tone presented in her voice.
''Well, you wrong. Your wrong about us being the only family you have. I never considered them family before, but I see now, that they are. When Barron came to Demon Nation, he was coming to be a child to a whole new family. A family of a Mom, Dad, and two young children. Both boys, one older, the other the younger. You told me about his new family, but you probably never considered his new brothers as part of your family? Right? He was adopted into that family, those two boys, they became his new siblings. His brothers. Which now that I'm thinking, would make them our stepbrothers. Given that we share blood through Barron from our birth parents. You have brothers you've yet to meet....'' Edward smiled.
''I already knew all of that, why bother telling me it again?'' She hissed.
''Because did you ever consider that I've met them, I know them, I've spoken to them, I can trust them, they are our family...'' Edward smiled.
''What're there names?'' She asked softly., seeming more interested the more he talked about them.
''Ren and Bright, fake last name Snowflake..'' He replied.
''Fake last name? Why a fake last name?'' Dvina asked.
''I think its because Barron has a very special memory he shared with his demon mother, something regarding seeing a special snowflake. I guess Ren and Bright agreed to their last name being changed to Snowflake..'' He replied.
''They sound like fighters. Strong warriors. Must've been trained at really young ages by their parents. At lest the name Ren sounds so. I'm guessing Bright, has some interest with beautiful things. The interest that anything can be beautiful...'' She guessed as she continued to walk.
''Exactly, sounds just like them. I can't wait till you get to meet them..'' Edward smiled even through he knew Dvina wasn't looking at him. Even though she wasn't giving her full attention to him, he knew she still appreciated it.
''Well, while we're talking about secret step - siblings? I am aware of your fathers little secret. I'm not sure if you've heard it or not, but you may want to pressure him into telling you the full truth, once this is all over.'' She hissed.
''If this is regarding his true son, which I know isn't me anymore, then I don't need to pressure him about anything, I am fully aware to what he did to my stepbrother.... Cole, he never deserved what he got. Father is just selfish, eager to keep his crown to himself. If it weren't because of being raced so poorly, maybe he could've turned out to be kind, and maybe, just maybe, I could've had the well loved relationship with Alice and Cole, I truly wished for since finding the truth.''
''Don't worry yourself about any of that, Edward. Once we're done here, we have a plan to retreat to Earth. Where in due time, we can start looking into how to rescue your brother from his imprisonment. I believe the story talks about a old, ancient, temple, in which his soul was imprisoned inside.'' Dvina guessed as she tried to remember the means of the entire detail regarding the might of the full story.
''I guess its not a surprise most of the demons here have heard that ancient story. Sucks how spending almost my whole life living on a planet home to a powered species, I never came across this story... Might've helped had I stepped into the library from time to time. Could've learned something. Maybe sooner might've been more helpful to keep Cole from turning into the Vengeful spirt. Everyone I talk to about this story, calls him the Vengeful spirt..... its as if he wasn't even a person. I doubt they remember his given birth name.''
''The more important thing is that you remember. Truly, its all he can hope for. Cole has a protector, someone who truly wishes to see him saved. That's more than I can say for the people around here. The demons could care less for the imprisonment of a long awaited prince from the nation in which they've hated for centuries.''
''Before, while you were talking about Barron, you mentioned ''kings'' So, your nation is ruled by two kings instead of one main?'' Edward asked surprised, as he kept his weight still, the eagerness to fall over at any second, from the getting used to still of the weird suit made of rubbery ink in which coated him.
''Yeah, their brothers actually. I guess the crown wasn't supposed to be given to only one of them, but the rulers before them, couldn't allow them to be torn from one another. You see, their blood line is very ancient. They were brought up from birth with the code in which siblings shall protect one another, they shall never disagree, nor commit a single act of violence between one another. Both their mothers believed in this strange pact just as their mothers did as rulers before them, following from their ancient ancestresses. They were the queens before them, passed the crown down to both of them, once they passed away. Seeming from rumors made up, that the sons murdered them, in order to take the crowns from them. Seeing as the two queens had never had their chance at freezing time. Their bodies just weren't at the stage where they could pass for immortality. They seemed to be the only two in the entire line of the pact, that couldn't reach the stage for immortality. They were then murdered, or so some people believe. Then the next day, there sons got the throne, and all the power they could ever want. It sickens me, honestly, you could want to murder your own family, for something so stupid as power..''
''Don't they have fathers? Why couldn't they have been allowed the throne? Is it because of the whole pact thing? You couldn't be ruler unless you had a brother? And could it work with a sister? Or did the two have to be the same sex?'' Edward questioned, seeming laterally interested in Demon Nation history.
''I've grown up here for a long time, and we've come and gone with queens and kings. Most I've seen had been the same sex, I am not sure if one can be different. I would say highly unlikely though.'' Dvina answered. ''Siblings back then, during the times of the first year in the pact, mean't only siblings could be rulers.''
''Do these kings have a name?'' Edward asked.
''King Zen and King Den. Both very close to one another. I'm guessing that was a less minuet part of the pact. I'm guessing the queens, their mothers, I mean, came up with that as a means to rewrite their history. Those two had different views on how the packed they grew up in, should've been written. Now that I think about it, their names were quiet similar as well. Guess they thought by making their sons have very close names, they could work it into the pact, that the requirements would be same sex, and close to the same name, with a few swapped about letters.'' Dvina explained as she kept closely behind Light, as the path seemed to grow longer and more narrow. Edward was sure he was losing the sight of the castle, as heavy darkness from the mix of night time came over them. Surprised to the fact he could even call what he'd seen before, daytime.
''What ever happened to the kings fathers? Surely they keep in touch right?'' He asked nervously. The thought of the rumors the sons murdered their mothers, waiting for the same outcome to be with the fathers.
''The fathers were nobodies. No one cared to ask questions about them, nor did anyone care to look for them after the sons were born. You see, they were once chosen demons from one of the villages here, in the nation. Picked off the streets randomly, and told to give the queens children, and ask not even a single question. The relationship that were asked of them, were simply nothing but for business, to keep the packed going, that was it. Neither of them married for love. Which is why no one even cared when they went missing. Most people say what happened to them, is of no importance. But I'd sure like to know..'' Dvina admitted. ''I'd give anything to learn what happened to the daughters they had.'' She whispered.
''Daughters? Their were more children?'' Edward asked, shocked from the sudden change in news to the story.
''Yes, many. The queens simply didn't want the daughters, they wished for sons. Seeing as they were the daughters before, they thought it to be better if the new rein of rulers were boys, this time. Some people in the village I grew up believe, the daughters born were killed. Brought to death before their first birthdays. You'd think the queens were be dethroned for such an act such as murdering their own children, but you'd be wrong about that. The pact they'd kept so secret to themselves, only states no violence shall be struck to one another, towards the siblings. Meaning any sort of threats or violent movement committed to the sibling by the other one would break the pact...''
''Did you have a second family here, Dvina? Like me and Barron? Were you taken in by some loving family?'' He asked, changing the subject to hopefully something much lighter.
''No, I didn't get taken in by anyone, so I lived alone in the village, as an orphan. Stuck living by eating garbage and taking shelter under boxes, pieces of medal that acted as a roof on the nights it rained, no one wanted a powerless demon to raise.'' She bowed, her voice turning soft, as she began to sniffle.
''You aren't powerless, Dvina, your smart, very smart. You knew how to disarm me the moment I got here! You were able to take me down before I was even able to activate my powers, all those times I could've gotten you, you made it so I couldn't, by keeping those spots closed. Your not powerless..'' He smiled.
''I appericate that, Edward, really I do.'' She still continued to whisper, but as a smile came over her, a small gust of wind blew past her whine colored hair, in an attempt to shield her face from the tears that stained her cheeks. ''Maybe its time we take a rest... its going to be at least a two day trip to reach the castle, once we have Twilight, might as well rest up now.'' She advised.
''You don't think we're going to be open for someone to come and attack us?'' Edward couldn't keep himself from asking, he allowed himself to comfortably sit down on the black grass underneath his feet, before the others joined him.
''No, we're safe way out here, most of the demons like to remain safe in the villages. Not many like to come to the woods. Even though the villages aren't always a good place, there's more demons around, which makes it less likely you'd be killed by a animal...''
''Gee, I never imagined things could be so bad here, if only you could've lived on Nation Valley with me, with my father gone, you'd have loved it there. Things were much better back home, before father started to change. Sad, I never noticed this before.''Edward frowned, almost shaming himself, for all the things he'd just learned. How many if he'd known, could there have been anything he could've done to make life better? Either way, now he'd never know.
''Your home has a sun, right?'' Dvina suddenly asked, eager and hopeful to hear his answer. Edward brought his eyes back up so he could make our Dvina's still sliver, cat like eyes.
''Yes we do..'' He whispered. ''As a child I sued to love waiting for the sun to come up when the night was over. Alice used to say, my eyes reflected the sun's light.'' He answered.
''Really? That's cute, but I like to still think of your eyes, as the color of these.'' She said, as she slowly dug her fingers quickly into a front pocket she had right in the middle of the warm coat she wore. Once she found what she wanted, she smiled a even brighter smile. Handing something out to Edward, who stared at a small wrapped piece of food in her palm.
''Please tell me you remember these? I hope you haven't, I told you before what they were called, I also told you you loved these as a child. Fire rockets...'' She said, pushing her hand closer toward him, eager to have him grab it from her. Edward did what she wanted after a few seconds of scanning every inch of it. The red and orange papered wrapping, burning into his mind, as a small glimpse of a blurry vision, of a past memory in which he shared, seeing a much younger Dvina, staring at him with big blue eyes. Her humans eyes? Untwisting the ends, then moving the paper away from the bind along the candy, he smiled. The piece was dark orange. The shade of his warm one eyes. Dvina was right, to believe the candy had bee responsible for changing his eye color. Although he knew that wasn't realistic. He figured his eye color had changed after his first few months on Nation Valley. Then reaching the age in which he finally got some power, his flames, had sealed the deal. Keeping his eye color to remain the same for as long as he kept alive. He didn't even consider the fact, they'd ever be able to return to the color in which they were before. The part that tied him to his human life, had been taken....
Another single memory of his human life, burned, and buried again. How much he'd been taken away from. It wasn't fair. None of it... He thought. Without another thought to distract him, he held the piece of orange candy with both his two fingers, as he slipped it into his mouth. Taking in the sweet, yet, spicy flavoring. It bounced around in his mouth, before the substance oddly changed textured. Now, seeming to be more chewy than hard. His eyes fell to the ground, once the sour taste played with the inside of his cheeks, as a fuzzy feeling rushed through his body. Sending the feeling to stop at his spine, as he twisted his shoulders. Almost like he'd just experienced a chill, from the cold temperatures. The candy was just as sore as he'd remembered it had been. And his taste buds then were that of a babies. Impressed with himself that he could still remember the first time he'd been given the candy, only made him feel proud. Guess the small part that still made him human, existed after-all.
Once the candy was completely dissolved in his mouth, he threw the rapper onto the ground beside him, as he turned to stare at Dvina, once she caught his eyes, she smiled, and waited. ''Was there something you wanted to ask me?'' She asked. ''You can ask anything...'' She said in a loving tone, Edward was surprised to have met someone so sweet.
''What was our mothers name?'' He asked. Even though he knew his question was going to bring with it pain, he was surprised when her smile remained, as he saw her open her mouth to answer her.
''Amara...her name was Amara.'' She whispered. ''Amara is the Italian word for bitter, from the same root as Mary and Miriam. ... These two meanings are the best-known, but Amara is also a Sanskrit name meaning immortal and a Mongolian name meaning peaceful.''
''That's really beautiful....I wish I'd gotten to meet her....at least for a little while.''
''Don't be so sad about it, Edward, even though you don't remember her face, I'm here to tell you, she deeply cared about you. You were always her favorite...''
''Her favorite? Well, I doubt that.'' Edward replied.
''I'm serious! You were her favorite, I think it was because you remained her the most of father. You and him shared those emerald eyes...'' She replied.
''Really? I got my eyes from father?'' He asked.
Dvina nodded a slow nod, as Edward watched as she slowly curled into a small ball, her head laying down onto her arms, as she stared at him with sleepy sliver eyes. ''I got mom's eyes, I was always a mini - me version of her. The whine hair color, and the bright blue eyes.... I always loved my blue eyes, cause every time I stared into the mirror, it was like I could see her. Her reflection, it would always stare back at me.''
Edward suddenly felt a wave of his own fire rush through his body. Starting from the top as it stopped at the bottom of his feet. He stared at his legs which were stretched out in front of him, as he brought his arms, in front of his face. A expression of confusion planting onto his feet, as his fingertips stung with a different color of fire. Light red. Strawberry red, he connected the color, as he turned to stare at Dvina. To his surprise, she'd fallen asleep. A small snore coming off from her, every time she took a breath of air. His confusion vanished from his face, as he brushed his finger tips passed his cheek. His cheek was cold, which sent chills down his spine, but once the fire made contact, he suddenly felt better. His thoughts came over him, interrupting him from reality, as he found his consciousness.
His inner flame.
The inner flame stared at him. A reflection of himself stood in front of him, smiling at him, with the emerald eyes, Dvina kept talking about. The inner self of his humanity, still remained. All the time he thought he was nothing but all warm one, had been turned upside down now. He was confused, but also interested as he kept his eyes glued on the human side of himself. The walls around them were the same strawberry shine fire that had stung his fingers seconds ago, the scent of cinnamon as he blinked slowly.
''Mom's favorite scent..'' The reflection suddenly whispered.
''Cinnamon?'' He answered.
The reflection suddenly remained quiet again, just continuing to state at him.
''Isn't there anything else you can show me? Show me of her?!'' He shouted at the reflection. He suddenly felt an overpowering overwhelming sense of the need to know. The craving. The craving to learn as much about his mother as he could. ''Another scent, a laughter, her voice, anything!'' He snapped. The reflection suddenly vanished, as the flames around him started to die down. In seconds he was back where he sat. The same surroundings of the raven darkness, staring at him from all sides. Every side, as he tried to find even a patch of sunlight, came up useless, and meaningless. Coming down with a fist to the dark ground, he sighed. Defeated and feeling very unreleased with himself, the eagerness to have the explanation he graved, came over and over and over inside. In seconds his flames returned to their normal orange shade from before, and casted the same warmth it always had. What ever was responsible for causing his inner moment, he wanted it to happen again.
He needed it to happen again.
He needed to learn about his mother.
If it came down to resurrecting Cole, or Amara, he was worried about his choice. Whether or not he'd make the right one. In the world he'd been brought into, there had to be a way to bring back those who've died. There just had to be.....somehow, someway, he'd bring back his mother, and reconnect his empty, broken, family. For Dvina's sake, he'd tell himself, but could he truly tell those around him who asked, the choice in which he'd make, was all for Dvina..
