"The days I spent on Earth felt like forever, but after meeting you, they flew by in a blink. I wish I could've had more time with you. I wish I could've been by your side. But life isn't fair—it took you away from me. We were apart in this life, but in the next, we'll find each other again. I'll be yours, and you'll be mine. Life may be tough, but my love for you is tougher. I'm on my way, my love. Goodbye, world."
Mila closed the book with a deep sigh of satisfaction. "Now that is how you end a story," she mumbled, gazing at the book's fancy and flowery cover one last time before tucking it back onto her packed bookshelf, right between The Prince's Unforgettable Proposal and Reincarnated as a Villainess Who Became the Heroine.
Then she glanced at her clock and nearly jumped.
8:30 AM.
"Oh no, no, no!" she squealed, launching herself out of bed hurridely. She darted around her room, pulling on a white shirt and whatever else she could grab, she grabbed her bag, snagged some cold leftover from last night for breakfast, and raced out the door, hoping she'd make it to the bus in time.
With a leap that would make any athlete proud, she managed to squeeze through the closing bus doors at the very last second. She plopped down into a seat, catching her breath. "I deserve a medal for these last-minutes," she muttered, still panting.
At the office, she walked in with just seconds to spare. "Good morning, Mila!" her coworkers chimed in, all happy and peppy.
"Morning!" Mila replied, waving back with a bright, if slightly forced, grin.
Mila: 24 years old, Married..... to her books. To everyone around, she seemed like the perfect worker—always friendly, always helpful. But on the inside, she was just waiting to get home to her next book, where the biggest drama was about love triangles or a dragon showing up uninvited.
She had barely sat down at her desk when Jane, her coworker who always seemed a little frazzled, popped up beside her. "Mila, could you help me with this report? I'm so lost."
"Of course, Jane!" Mila replied, switching to her "helpful mode." She quickly guided Jane through it, step-by-step, while Jane nodded like her head was on a spring.
A few minutes later, her manager appeared. "Hey, Mila! Dan called in sick. Think you can cover for him?"
Mila's smile stayed put, but she let out an internal sigh. "Sure thing," she said, trying to sound enthusiastic.
And so, the day blurred by in a frenzy of emails, meetings, and tasks. When 5 PM finally rolled around, the rest of the office had already cleared out, but there she was, still finishing up the extra work. Her feet hurt, her brain hurt, her butt hurt but that smile stuck.
When she finally left, she muttered, "Another day, another dollar… or more like a few hours of unpaid overtime."
She got home, opened the fridge, and found it completely empty. "Noice," she sighed. She grabbed her wallet and headed out to the grocery store, picking up enough food to last a week. On her way back, she was already planning her evening. "Maybe I'll start that new book tonight," she thought, feeling a bit of excitement.
But as she crossed the street, she heard a horn blaring. "Tee-teet!"
A truck came barreling towards her.
Boom.
And that should have been the end. But, as you've probably guessed by now, this isn't that kind of story.
Mila opened her eyes slowly. She was lying on a huge, super-soft bed. She sat up, looking around in confusion. The room was fancy—like, really fancy. With big, glittering curtains and shiny decorations everywhere. It was the kind of room you'd see in a fairy tale.
"......................" She paused for a long moment before whispering, "I definitely got hit by a truck… so where the heck am I?"
She gasped. "Wait, am I dead? Is this… heaven?"
Heaven? Nice try, but no.
Meet our heroine Mila, the bookworm, overtime enthusiastic (against her will), and now, a very confused guest in a ridiculously fancy room in a whole new world. Is she a princess, a prisoner, or something else altogether? Only time (and maybe a little luck) will tell.
Stick around as Mila figures out this new world, tackles mysteries, and deals with whatever else fate—or whoever's writing this—throws her way. It's going to be a wild or maybe a domestic adventure!
And with that, this narrator bids you farewell… for now. See you soon!
